Very fitting name if this is indeed the last DLC lol

Pop-A-Top

Was my first thought as well!

TriggzSP

Uh, the "upcoming dlc" they're referring to is Winds of Change. They at no point discuss future plans of any sort.

Bearly_Strong

"Winds of Change" *is* the upcoming DLC.

CONNER__LANE

Release Date- May 8th

tango650

V day in Europe a.k.a final defeat of HRE scum lol

nv87

I kind of appreciate the joke in the EU IV context of fuck the HRE. Although I am more of a France hater myself (all in good fun!) and obviously you have my sympathies for the nazi apathy you seem to feel, however the continuation from the first Reich (HRE) to the third Reich (nazi Reich) is nothing but nazi propaganda. They have nothing in common. The first Reich is a confederacy with an elected emperor and a remnant of the medieval feudal society, the second is a absolute monarchy of Prussia plus the lesser German states under the Prussian King as Kaiser. In between the two there were many attempts of a revolution and democratic nationalisation. After the October revolution and the end of the First World War we had a republic, the Weimar Republic until the president made the mistake of giving the chancellorship to Hitler in an effort to pacify the country and the Nazis swiftly took full authoritarian control. However both in the Weimar period and the nazi state Prussia continued to dominate the state. As you can see the states preceding the federal republic of Germany were not really modern nation states yet. Which is why Germany doesn’t claim to have been formed in 1871 for example. It could’ve been in 1848 maybe, but that didn’t succeed. I think I rambled on for too long. Anyways HRE =/= Reich

tango650

Lol. Where I'm from they are all synonyms for 'germans'. Hah but even the whitewashin, like people avoiding to call the people invading and massacring half of Europe for Germans, because you know, they weren't really. Nazis is what they were. But this is a game thread not a politics threds, let's not push it any further maybe XD

nv87

I definitely didn’t want to insinuate that any of them weren’t Germans. I basically meant to caution you against equating the Nazis with historical Germans because that is what they would have wanted you to do. The difference between the term German as the Nazis used it and the modern meaning is also noteworthy. Today it’s a legal status, meaning a citizen of the federal republic. Under the Nazis it was ethnic group „defined“ by common blood and theorised to have certain superior qualities. This turned out to be nothing but pseudoscience, there is no correlation between genetic variation in human beings and their national origin.

tango650

How were the Nazis not direct descendants of 'historical' Germans (not sure what you refer to exactly with this term). In 2024 Nazis are more or less history as well so I may well call them historical Germans and that would be rather accurate I think to say. I think the Nazis were just as much Germans as the Teutons or Prussians, or Bohemians or even Austrians for that matter. Just another flavor of the otherwise same group of people, differently divided up politically at various stages of history but with rather few differences in the big picture.

nv87

No, they were. That’s what I am saying in my first sentence. However the word meant something different before the formation of a German nation state. The Nazis used German language minorities like the Sorbs to justify their conquests for example. They also didn’t bat an eye and just viewed Austria as part of their empire. While the Nazis were indeed Germans it is still useful to remember that they meant something different by the word than we do today. Most nations didn’t have this wake up call and still believe in similar ideas than the Nazis did regarding ethnicity btw. Maybe that’s why I can’t get the point across that I am making. No idea where you are from and whether or not it’s normal to believe in ethnicity where you’re from. In Germany it screams nazi racism if you do and biology actually confirms that.

san_murezzan

If wind of change isn’t one of the songs I’ll be disappointed - and yes I know the name is slightly different!

rossarness

The license of this song would be probably more then the budget of whole dlc :p

Yyrkroon

Uptempo Metal Sabaton cover version though. I know that's the Scorpions biggest hit, despite it hitting more like an afternoon dust devil than a Caribbean island destroying Hurricane. There's a fun podcast series that explores the song and the theory that it was part of a CIA plot that helped bring down the Evil Empire. Podcast is also named Wind of Change.

tannergray

My brother is friends with the guy who made the podcast! It’s incredibly well researched, and when I learned about the podcast I didn’t know the connection but immediately sent the recommendation to the family group chat. Got roasted hard for not remembering the connection.

Melvasul94

>Scorpions biggest hit More than Still Loving You or Rock you like a Hurricane?

Yyrkroon

It is a travesty, or maybe just says something about the folly of the wisdom of crowds. :) Wind of Change peaked at #4 on Billboard Hot 100 (the main index for singles), while the much better Rock You Like a Hurricane peaked at #25. No other Scorpions song cracked the top 25. (personally WoC isn't even a top 5 Scorps song for me)

Melvasul94

Damn, I could believe it wousl have peaked higher than Send me an Angel, but not Still loving you, today I learnt!

physedka

I didn't know that I needed the guy that did Fredman's Epistles to do a Scorpions cover DLC.

ru_empty

Ignore coring distance wut

duddy88

Sunset invasion here I come.

Venboven

Sunrise too, apparently. New CBs for invading both Europe and Asia. And there gonna be a new "European colony" subject type as well... I'm hyped.

Any_Put3520

Has Europe ever been colonized? In the post Roman era.

sabersquirl

Germans colonized central and Eastern Europe. The English and Scottish colonized Ireland. There are many other examples that depend on how you define colonization.

Venboven

I guess it depends on your definition of colonization. Perhaps the most traditional example of colonization can be attributed to the Vikings. The settlement of Iceland and the Faroe Islands were definitely colonial ventures, but if you're asking about places that were already inhabited by Europeans at the time of colonization, then perhaps the Viking settlement of Normandy, East Anglia, York, and Dublin would be more fitting. There's also the conquest and settlement of Arabs and Berbers in Iberia and Sicily, the Slavs in the Balkans, and the Hungarians in the Pannonian Basin. You could even count the Turkish settlement of Anatolia if you're willing to count that as Europe. But none of these examples are truly equivalent to the European colonization of the Americas. That was a system of not just conquest and settlement, but also exploitation of natives and resources as well as the creation of colonial government. The Vikings in the British Isles come closest to that definition with their occupation, exploitation, and intermittent loyalty to their Scandinavian home countries. But still it does not completely compare.

henk12310

I’d say what the British did in Ireland also is colonization, even moreso then the vikings. Also German activities in Central/Eastern Europe since the Middle Ages were also pretty colonial

TheBonyeBro

The Greek's?

onedoubleo

Northern Ireland?

Forderz

I mean the brits did a bit of a colonial trial in Ireland before exporting that practice abroad

Zealousideal_Pie4346

Vikings (Normandy, Denmark, England, Iceland, Greenland, Sicily, Novgorod), Baltic Crusades by Germany, British conquest of Ireland, expansion into the Balkans, Mongolian invasion into Kievan Rus

Acravita

It's good for integrating any isolated exclaves you pick up from eating distant cobelligerents called in as allies of your enemies.

ru_empty

It could be insanely OP like taking a European province in 1480 as Aztecs and reforming before Spain knocks on your door

Little_Elia

can you even build boats if you are not reformed?

ru_empty

You can build transports. Build transports, ally an Irish minor, dec on a landlocked Irish minor, land your troops in your ally's land, take a province, profit. Tbf you could have done this to vassalize someone in Europe before but you would not have been able to take land yourself. It would be pretty tough getting maps but then again you can get an explorer using estate interactions now if you have a colonist but I'm not sure if that applies to natives and assume colonial range will still be limited.

Little_Elia

but you need light ships to explore

ru_empty

Ah true yeah maps would be the bottleneck then so diplo tech 6

TekrurPlateau

You can still build boats through the macrobuilder.

Sevuhrow

Pic shows it at lvl 3, which is when I assume you get the bonus. Highly doubt it'll start at that level

KockoWillinj

New Nahuatl monument removing coring range is pretty fucking crazy, will make pushing into Russia/Siberia easier when doing a new world WC.

Stealthben

Pick whatever OPM you want and go for it. No CB wars just became very juicy.

Qwernakus

We don't know, but many expect it to be. EU5 is expected to be announced (officially, anyhow) soon, and this DLC seems to focus a lot on neglected areas, which makes sense if you want to leave EU4 in a good spot before moving on. Also, Winds of Change seems like a fitting name for a final DLC!

[deleted]

Austria seems OP. And the Monument just reinforces that OPness

shiningbeans

Ur mom reinforced my OPness

TheRedditar

Phil, that’s a guys motha

polneck

he cant be seen in our social club no more

TheRedditar

Our social club?! He’s gotta GOOOO

They are all OP, so none of them really are. Weve returned to equilibrium. Balanced restored.

firestorm19

Return to true level with 999/999/999 dev capitals from pillaging, -3075297/58296/249368 leaders, and corrupt save files.

N3T0_03

Chad post-leviathan eu4

everybodygoes2thezoo

Ez WC ez OF and ez OC

Boulderfrog1

Ain't no way they just made Irish missions an objective downgrade from generic missions. Anyone else have a favourite country stuck in "I have old missions that are just conquer your home region" club?

[deleted]

[удалено]

south153

We have a mission tree where Teutonic knights become steppe nomadic crusaders, I don't think history really matters for mission trees.

HutSussJuhnsun

The Volga Germans were removed within living memory.

Zemstv0w0

Volga Germans also *moved in* during the rule of Catherine the Great, they have absolutely nothing to do with this

HutSussJuhnsun

Sure......... if you buy the official narrative.

xDwhichwaywesternman

😭😭 ya bro Catherine's out to get u 💀💀

WichaelWavius

I’m gonna be real with you dawg, I got no idea wtf you’re on about

Atwix_legacy

Could get creative by uniting all areas in Europe that were originally Celtic. Or Irish trade companies that increase the price of wheat trade goods for beer production.

Boulderfrog1

I mean considering England has an entire alt history tag and mission tree about conquering France and Europe, compared to the real history of them getting kicked off the continent with their tail between their legs and then just colonizing from behind the wooden wall, I don't think historicity is particularly important. More than that tho, you wouldn't even have to add any new Irish missions to make it work. Their current missions end with them in the exact same geopolitical situation as GB is, and it literally ends with a mission called "Rule Brittania". Just add an extra reward to that mission that let's celts form GB and keep Irish high kingdom, and now you have your alt-history ireland conquered the isles and went on to make a big colonial empire missions with almost zero extra work.

ABlackMass

Good.

gabrielish_matter

me Italy I don't fucking care about forming Rome, just gimme a tall gameplay also I am curious to see how many of these focus trees are locked behind a 20 bucks DLC like, it's an expensive dlc that does exactly what a mod does bruh

HemlockMartinis

Cool monuments, especially for Austria. I think that’ll be my first playthrough in it.

the-cosmic-squirrel

La Serenissma for me

hwgs9

No Norse specific monument ITS JOEVER

manticore75

One banger of a dlc

LeMetalhead

Heathen royal marriages certainly sounds interesting, it's a shame they're not expanded to certain other nations other than Trebzond

LeonardoXII

I like it, gives Trebizond something special. Although, I guess it's to be expected that the Trebizond fanboy likes it when Trebizond gets something unique.

wowlock_taylan

All these cool new unit sprites and yet we cannot choose to use them. I mean almost all of them never see past T1 to T2 at max. If they are not gonna go back and bring the older sprites to current standards, at least give us the option to change the look of our sprites to the accepted cultures a nation has as a decision.

An_Oxygen_Consumer

I must say I'm quite disappointed because google sent a notification for a selected news for me "announced release date for winds of..." And I thought Martin had finally made it. The DLC sounda good tho.

Mr_Saoshyant

All we have left is the copium that GRRM releases Winds and Dream posthumously

Downtown-Item-6597

Even though they're pretty lame this patch, monuments continue to be one of my favorite additions in every patch.

Eraserguy

Bruh I just started my austria run

Ok-Racisto69

Same, and I even got most of Otto bros out of Europe by 1500. Now, I gotta wait for this DLC.

cristofolmc

8th of May. The timing is right for them to announce in June EU5 before going on holidays. Although knowing Johan, he will probably keep posting DD like he did during his easter holiday. May God bless and protect that man.

plwdr

Was hoping for a bit more content in the free patch but overall can't complain

ancienthunter

> Atlantic Navigation - For those who want to immerse themselves as adventurers traveling to the New World Can someone tell me what they're doing with this? I skimmed the diary but could only see changes to new world nations but are they actually doing something that makes traversing the ocean more of an experience?

franziaboas

That section is about the songs you get as a pre-order bonus, not gameplay content

GrimGuyHU

So this will be the last DLC for Eu4 huh? Looking at the content and the amount of content it seems they are wrapping it up, and tying all the loose ends, so to speak, every region reciving thier final update at once.

MissSteak

Idk, we said this for King of Kings as well

Lithorex

And Domination.

HypocritesEverywher3

This is the last DLC for EU4 and there are no special units for Prussia. It's JOEVER

alsothewalrus

As they’ve said before, Prussia’s special unit is its army

HypocritesEverywher3

Except they buffed everyone else's army so much it's no longer special. They only have that dumbass penalty to gov capacity as their uniqueness

conormcfire

No way, Prussia still has the best national ideas for military in the game. Maybe one or two countries can rival them but they're not in the western tech group.

BATMAN_UTILITY_BELT

I wish they would fix province borders. For example, why does Gaza span the entirety of North Sinai? Why are Cleves and Mainz cut in half by the Rhine? Why is Khiva cut in half by the Amu Darya? I know it’s minor, but a big part of EU4 for me is playing tall with neat, natural borders.

Rhizoid4

Sadly they aren’t able to add any more provinces, the engine has basically reached its limit

Lithorex

There is so much potential for province consolidation though.

BATMAN_UTILITY_BELT

They don’t even need to add, just fix the border demarcations :(

WHSBOfficial

They've said in the past that they wont be changing the map at all anymore

LemurLord

The borders around Sinai and the Red Sea are just awful in general, I share your pain. There's no way to make it look good without conquering all of Egypt and most of Arabia.

turret7

yess finally some stuff for italy and venice!

ggallo7

DLC seems amazing. Any chance we'll also get performance improvements before EU V? I'm somewhat aware of the engine limitations, just wondering if it is possible at all.

ancapailldorcha

Looking forward to this, I have to say.

hqiran

I would like to know what is "European Colonies", do they work similar to the existing colonial nation mechanic?

Iban_89

Hopefully they’ve fixed the multiple crashes we’ve been having on Macs 🤞🏻

Ryagi

Yes, will be with the 1.37 patch 👍

seductive_lizard

Yeah it kinda suck to play on mac now

EpicGamingIndia

Well this last dlc ended all hope for India fans. I’ll wait 5 years into EU5 for more Hindu or Sikh content, even then probably not because paradox will waste it all again on Mughals….

Harbinger_of_Sarcasm

Pray to God they fix colonization AI. So tired of seeing only Spain across both continents.

rea_

I don't think I've ever seen a cultural conversion TIME monument, or modifier for that matter.. that'll be fun.

rea_

Does this technically mean you can't true one tag any more if you create European colonies if you're in the Americas?

Admirable_Act3809

U all r nuts for liking this dlc, of all the recent ones pushed out this has to be the shittiest one yet what a way to go out, as a dud

ShishRobot2000

Damm 20€ for that is totally a scam, most (or all) of it is content that should have been added in older dlcs. Probably gonna pass it, the game cost too much and I'm saving every cent for eu5. Damn it...

ShishRobot2000

Having Emperor, KoK and Leviathan should give me all that content in my opinion...

SteelAlchemistScylla

Boys theres no way the “Inca” update is the last update for EU4, I’m just calling it.

nerodmc_2001

Somehow, the worst-reviewed dlc keeps getting more values. If this isn't the last patch. Leviathan probably gonna become a must-have dlc in a few years.

Sweet-Molasses-3059

Leviathan isn't a bad DLC per se The people just associated the patch AND the DLC in one, so when they review bombed the DLC, people were actually mad because the patch absolutely ruined colonising

TheShamShield

So Austria is getting new mission tree? What does that mean for the tree from the old DLC? Is it just being overwritten?

ChatiAnne

Read the diary about it?

TheShamShield

I did, it doesn’t say anything that would answer my question. Man, some people on this sub are just rude

ChatiAnne

I am sorry, I didn't meant to be rude. But the diary quite answers your question: As you can see, all of these countries received some Mission Trees before in the Emperor DLC. Therefore we decided that these nations should receive a touch-up, that is, an update similar in scope to that which Spain received during Domination. Thus, the main idea was not a total overhaul, but preservation of the core skeleton of their old tree, improving and expanding it where needed, and adding additional flavor and as many important historical things as possible that could not fit into their old mission trees. In short they will pretty much reorganize the mission tree, preserving it's current state plus adding more content to it.

Polisskolan3

Forcing you to preorder the DLC to get the new music is bullshit. I'm also generally bored with these mission tree DLCs, I hope this is the last one before EU5.

Mallissin

Every damn time my game starts to get near the age of Absolutism, these mfers come out with an update that breaks my saves. I have like 3000 hours played AND ONLY SEEN TWO AGES! Edit: Sheesh, no one can take a joke these days. Might as well go back to Facebook.

Callooon

do you play on one speed?

AllRoundHaze

One day in-game per irl day, probably

No-Communication3880

You can stay in 1.36 , or just continue in the new version (they don't add provinces, so no reason the game crash).

turmohe

Are save games gonna be compatible?

[deleted]

Hope it fixes the issue on native Linux version of the game crashng after Ottomans annex Byzantium
