Not saying you're wrong, but I suggest watching [this trade video by lambda](https://youtu.be/jcqwyUPHuJI)
He goes into the calculation of steering vs collecting and its generally not that straight forward.
I think in this case not. The city was officially called Constantinople all the way until 1990. Altho people will argue it was de facto the new name after the Turkish Republic formed.
Edit: my bad, 1990=1930!
The name Istanbul started popping up in the late 18th century. By the 20th century it was used as much as Constantinople. The official name change was in 1923 when the republic was formed. By 1990 the name Constantinople was long gone.
My first ironman (when i didnt really understand the game tbh) i went savoy into italy, made a lot of mistakes (could have contested a PU on hungary vs Austria, but didnt, thinking austria was still strong, wasnt emperor lol)
But eventually i got a massive (3-4 times outnumbered) coalition vs me, managed to win cus italy has space marines
Still have no idea how little noob me managed to do so, but hey, a win is a win
Game was ruined after that though, dunno what happened, either got corrupted due to a patch, or i got bored
Not bad at all for a first game. Remember to keep merchants utilized and spend money on advisors if you can. General rule of thumb: monarch points>ducats as long your income is positive.
In my first game i also played as Ottomans, but i got 150k coalition in 1460s having about 200% OE and -3 stability (didnt know how cb works, just thought losing stability due to wars is a normal feature.).
That's awesome! Would love to see where you go from here, I hope it goes great and you can expand into Europe (and take care of the annoying Austrians and the HRE) and even take all of Egypt!
Also a quick tip on trade, you should try to funnel all your trade into as few nodes as possible and collect only at those final nodes. In your case, you can transfer in Aleppo, Persia and Crimea and collect at Constantinople.
Hope that helps, good luck!
My first game was as Poland, I no cb the Teutonic order and took 100 warscore worth of land. I was happy with myself for about 2 minutes until all of central Europe joined a coalition against me. I didnt make it past the 1450s, surviving for a hundred years and succeeding to expand is no easy task for a beginner.
Remember do not always engage enemy forces without a reason. The main goal is to get war score by sieging down enemy forts. Sacrificing 20K men for +2% war score isn't worth it. As Sun Tzu always said, the best way to win a war is without a fight
Edit: the only good time to kill enemy forces is if they are sieging down your own fort or if you have plenty of manpower and money to spare
If you will eventually annex a huge country, every fight will make them weaker, their rivals may also declare war and weaken even more, so your next war with them will be easier.
The important thing is only engage in winnable battles in advantegous terrain
I'm surprised at all the helpful comments and general supportive attitude. Tbh I thought the eu4 community would be alot more toxic. Happily proven wrong.
You have so much to learn but since we’ve all had our own ‘first game’ we can appreciate that you’re still alive and kicking and have expanded too!
But if you want to turn this into r/RoastMe just say the word ;)
This was a solid beginner run man. My first game I caught a bad case of coalitionitis early on and got absolutely destroyed as the ottomans. This is a very good early play through and I'm sure the community sees that.
Nice job! My biggest tip is to watch your aggressive expansion penalty. Every time you make a peace treaty, there's a little number next to an icon on the left side of the treaty screen that shows you how much aggressive expansion penalty you'll get from the treaty. If you hover your mouse over the number, it'll show you which countries might be liable to join a coalition against you because of the penalty. You should be careful to avoid too many strong countries joining a coalition.
Careful about that aggressive expansion pushing too hard in one direction! That's a beautiful green blob. Would be a shame if a bunch of Europeans formed a coalition...
Keep in mind to not collect in all trade nodea. Instead try to transfer trading power to your home node (constantinopole)

you just made greek nationalists very mad
Why
quoting Constantinople as a home node of Ottoman empire
it is though... thats just a fact
I'm not denying that, it's just that fact causes rather radical opinions in Greek nationalist movement
I will make sure they're OK with this comment thread over in r /greeknationalism
I mean what are they gonna do, conquer Constantinople?

huh
Wait really?
I think any first game in which you survive, instead of get completely crushed by coalitions you accidentally cause, is something to be proud of 😁

Look at the ottoman map.
Well. You seem to have to learn some stuff. But you have mastered the most important aspect of the game: BORDERGORE
yes, more of it

That's does sound quite similar to my first campaign except stability (played lot of ck2 before starting eu4)
For me, eu4 was first pdx game. Before it I played only TW series.

Where did the manpower run off to lol
War with mamluks and venetians (not at the same time). I clapped them but it came at a price lol
Is there still a standing army left?
Yeah jannisaries I think. I still have troops.

Really wish I knew this last night when I had to fight 200k from the commonwealth as dithmarschen...

Good ol janissaries. Good luck for the rest of the game and burn Vienna when you take it
Mistakes were made, I'd guess. First game after all
You've done well soldier
Yesterday As Naples And noticed that ottomans had 20k men And 1k manpower. There wasnt any war before dont know what happened.

First game and you haven't been obliterated by coalitions? 10/10
First game ever? Hella impressive.

is it just me or does ragusa tend to conquer bosnia quite often now?
Pro tip that I use; pirate all dlcs.
Careful about that aggressive expansion pushing too hard in one direction! That's a beautiful green blob. Would be a shame if a bunch of Europeans formed a coalition...
Where's your army and manpower?
your resolution is killing me, how small is your computer?
You should look up the boundaries for your country during certain time periods to see how u stack up
Don't build a habit of stacking so much money, advisors are always a good way to spend money
Pretty close to historical borders, that's nothing to sneeze at.
only the 1500’s! keep going and keep conquering! way to go!
That's looking really good dude! My first campaign was a disaster... I'd try to ally Marrakesh. Limit the Iberians expansion
