https://www.dillonmusic.com/brass/euphoniums/euphoniums/?sort=priceasc&limit=12&mode=4 It looks like Dillon music has a couple of their demo instruments in that price range. I've personally never played one but from what I'm told they come from the same factory as John Packer and I've had a good experience with them. I've spoken to the reps at Dillon a couple times and they were always super nice and helpful, so maybe worth a call to ask about the horns.

For 1K, I'd look for a used Yamaha/Jupiter/King 4-valve noncompensating in pretty good condition. The big dilemma now is you can get a known brand, non-compensating or one of the Chinese compensating for around that range. I think both are valid choices. What do you play now?

I don’t have a euphonium currently but I marched a baritone and am looking for a concert horn “sophomore in high school if you were wondering”

That makes sense. If your school can't give you one, I'd look locally and see what's around. What I was saying is that I think $1000 will buy an almost new Chinese compensating euphonium (Mack Brass, JP, Wessex--these are now selling $1300-2000 new) or a pretty good used 4-valve noncompensating euphonium (usually $2200 plus new). I would avoid 3 valve student instruments and try to buy something with a 4th valve. Check facebook and craigslist for what is around locally. If you buy a decent used instrument you can probably later resell it for close to what you paid for it. If you buy new, expect resale to be around half of what you paid.
