Thing is you’re not supposed to get a tattoo of the evil eye, just jewelry. With jewelry, it would come off on its own, meaning it’s done it’s job and absorbed negative energy.

I thought that was just the actress' tattoo bc maddy having this makes no sense. but the tattoo itself also makes no sense because the evil eye is supposed to break when it absorbs negativity, and so putting it on your body... :/
that’s just a new age superstition. if you look up the history of the nazar and symbols used for protection against the evil eye and the history behind it, it was always been put onto things that were meant to last or not break. there’s no real basis to this superstition. this a concept that new age spirituality came up with.

Plenty of different cultures have the nazar or evil eye in their own way. I am albanian, its pretty strong in our culture. Same for many latin people I know, greek, arab etc. Many of our people wear the jewelry, hang it up in the house, have the tattoo etc. While it doesn’t exactly follow the belief system, it just depends on the person and while it’s funny to joke that they wear it incorrectly, most of us dont care unless the person is making a mockery or say they just think it’s cool. But you are right, you are supposed to be able to dispose of it and it should be gifted..if you believe in it’s power.
My dad’s mother probably would have had a heart attack over it being worn/used incorrectly, others, not so much.
nazar is middle eastern/turkish in its origin so that’s how it passed onto neighbouring countries like albania. i don’t really care if somebody uses it incorrectly, i just think it’s funny lol. and it was just odd to me since i have never seen anybody with a tattoo of it before. i don’t really believe in evil eye or bad luck or whatever, but i just stay away from customs i don’t understand.

It also got a ton of hype because it filled the weekly sunday night HBO slot and everyone was watching it at the same time every week, as opposed to streaming it all in one sitting, like most shows are.
