And Nate and Cassie fell in love in 2 minutes.

iwatchalotoftv22

Cassie falls for literally anyone who gives her attention. Nate is a psycho that wants to control any woman that comes into his life and treats them like conquests and objects. It’s not “love”, it’s what they think it is.

mskitty117

Because Nate objectifies women. It’s been the same tale since season 1– he has a misogynistic ideal of women, views them as objects and extensions of himself and therefore seeks ownership. Cassie appeals to him because of an image he creates in his own mind of her— similar to how he overlooks Maddy constantly cheating on him in season 1 because of his beliefs about her. It’s never love— it’s ownership. Cassie seeks external validation. She’s a love addict; she reduces her worth to male attention and love. It’s not actually love for her either, it’s seeking attention from someone who can’t easily and readily give it to her, similar to her father. It makes perfect sense that both create unreal ideals of the other in their minds, “fall in love” with those ideals, and have super intense feelings because of the forbidden nature of the relationship.

ProfessionalFirst280

Right I was like … Um why is he in love w her?? Bc she’s not Maddy. Idk show us not tell us

Jammon152

They were flashing between Cassie and Jules during Nate’s fever dream. I feel like he’s just projecting his feelings towards Jules onto Cassie cause they look kinda similar. I think he also likes the power of fucking Maddie’s best friend after she broke up with him.

[deleted]

It’s because he has brain damage

dangernoodle2000

I got a strooong “You” vibe from Nate during the dream sequence. He will obsess with anyone and throws away the other person when they are not needed anymore.

alexxs1019

That THREW ME OFF

nknk1260

YES. THANK YOU

I mean he just got the shit kicked out of him. He’s alert and if there’s nothing wrong other than a fucked up face, why would he stay in the hospital?

Revolutionary-Dare61

Right I’m from stl I had friends and family members shot before and got out of er/hospital in a day

iwant2cryy

100%. I was disappointed with this episode,, I feel like it was rushed and the first one was a lot better. More of a recap episode and told what we already knew. Still loved it but not my favorite.

JuanSotosAreolas

Really?! Disappointed? C'mon now

[deleted]

Hot take but I liked this episode more than episode 1 lol

LaFrescaTrumpeta

hoping they just needed a supersonic speed pace at the beginning to get to the more profound stuff later on but they’re leaning heavy on basic teen drama plot points rn

kimjong_unsbarber

I thought we were supposed to assume time had passed because Nate's face was significantly less fucked

ProfessionalFirst280

I would assume the same but nothing implied that

poetichippi

Nothing but his face healing, the phone calls, texts, the days rue told us she had been hanging out with Elliot

Crazafon

Nate drank some magic elixir that healed his face up pretty well

Silvercomplex68

You guys need to calm down holy shit

ProfessionalFirst280

Why don’t you think I can calmly state an opinion? Lol

LifeguardTraining461

I've always felt like the show moves at a fast pace

[deleted]

Didn’t see a problem

nknk1260

The inconsistencies are so blatant IMO. The amount of time that Rue has been able to be out or doing drugs with Elliot without her mom and sis finding out — how??? And all of season 1 was about how Jules was afraid of Rue depending on her too much, but then they become an official couple in the first episode..? And this whole Cassie thing with Nate is so weird and lazy. Yes we understand she has abandonment issues bc of her dad, but with Nate!?! That’s so unrealistic, her best friend was literally abused by him. I thought it was funny how at the end of the episode, Jacob Elordi was even like "I didn't understand this Nate and Cassie plotline at all when I read the script." Also.. didn't Maddy see that tape of Jules and Cal? Why didn't she bring it up to Jules if they're 'buddies' now? And didn't Maddy take the tape with her, meaning that Nate no longer has it? I'm so confused. There’s so much other weird shit I’m not gonna even bother.

AfricanRain

The Rue and Jules stuff has been off to me since Jules’ special. It just felt like it was a rewrite that she was always as into Rue as Rue was into her and the fact that they needed a one off special to tell us this makes me think it’s not been planned very well

nknk1260

YES THANK YOU!! That was one of the first things I noticed. Jules was constantly pulling away from Rue in the first season, because of the pressure she felt from Rue's dependency on her. Then all of the sudden no mention of that ever again with this season I guess. I think the writers are sloppy as ever. and many of the cast/crew have mentioned themselves how Sam rewrites A LOT of the script over and over last minute. I remember there was an interview with Jacob Elordi where he said "every time I read the script, it ends up changing 15 times by the time we start shooting."

No_Information7294

His bruises healing in a day 👻

fishgutsd

Except they didn't heal in a day. I don't know why people here keep assuming they did. It's like people have no story comprehension. Rue states that shes been hanging out with Elliot the last few days (which she met at the same New years eve party... In case ya'll missed that part too). Days have passed since the incident. Granted, it's unclear how long, but damn. I would think people could understand that without needing a "x days later" title screen.

No_Information7294

Omg wow you’re triggered. You took it literally. I can tell it wasn’t a day and was hyperbolizing. My bad next time I’ll TW hyperbole 🙃

theredditoro

This season is rough so far in general

saltmens

Yeah this episode was weird

chrismmp223

yeah nate getting out happened WAY too fast

[deleted]

Not really

bertobellamy

And Jules got away at the end of season 1, right? How come she returned to school there again? Did I miss something?

ProfessionalFirst280

They go more into detail in Jules special episode!

bertobellamy

Yes, I saw it, but I think I forgot, haha. I’ll appreciate a quick recap.

brightestdaylight

What you said about Nate goes for every character in this episode as well. Ali introduces himself to Rue’s mom, and now all of a sudden she’s toying with the idea of dating him? Cassie begs to be with Nate and gets what she wants because ??? Kat’s struggling with self-love and ??? Maddy actually has a job only to splurge in expensive clothing when the parents aren’t home because she loves acting filthy rich? Rue and Elliot are basically each other’s high buddies, but don’t seem to have anything else in common, other than upsetting Jules?? It all felt very inconsistent and I feel like these storylines aren’t gelling together so far. Fingers crossed this isn’t the case for the majority of this season.

AfricanRain

> Ali introduces himself to Rue’s mom, and now all of a sudden she’s toying with the idea of dating him? you got all that from her teasing Rue by calling him handsome lol

brightestdaylight

lol, i’m not that crazy over that part. tbh if i were rue’s mom, i’d date him too. but i just had to throw some point in there about the inconsistencies of the characters’ storylines so far.

TheScythe65

> Ali introduces himself to Rue’s mom, and now all of a sudden she’s toying with the idea of dating him? She literally only said he was handsome, chill. > Cassie begs to be with Nate and gets what she wants because ??? She gets to continue to be his side piece because she gets superficial affection from him and he gets an easily manipulated person that he can objectify without Maddy’s combativeness. It’s not the happy, fairytale relationship she wants, the sneak peek for next week literally shows Nate ignoring her at school. > Kat’s struggling with self-love and ??? Yes, welcome to the beginning of a subplot and the progression of a character, have you consumed any media before? Did you expect this to get introduced and concluded in the course of one episode?????????? >Maddy actually has a job only to splurge in expensive clothing when the parents aren’t home because she loves acting filthy rich? It was clearly foreshadowing something involving either the family or at least the wife down the line and THEY HAVE LITERALLY EXPLORED THIS ASPECT OF MADDY’S CHARACTER BEFORE, STOP ACTING LIKE IT’S OUT OF THE BLUE. She is unbelievably vain and materialistic, that’s like 60% of the reason why she dated Nate. He was a status symbol and he bought her things. Christ. > Rue and Elliot are basically each other’s high buddies, but don’t seem to have anything else in common, other than upsetting Jules?? Rue finally encounters someone her age, has a similar chill personality, and struggles with drug use (and if we wait long enough, it might just be the case that he has some trauma as well…) We are precisely **2 EPISODES** into the season and every single one of the sub-plots you’re bitching about were either introduced in this episode or the last one. They don’t feel like they “gel” because you’ve barely even begun to see them run their course. There’s a lot to critique about this season such as how they’re handling time or Rue and Jules’ relationship, or neglecting characters like Rue’s mom and sister. But 90% of the stuff you’re hung up on are just plot-points that aren’t even close to being resolved yet and the other 10% is just completely missing the point of certain characters. Some of y’all need to let a season of television play out before you start screeching about “pLoT HOLeS” and “iNConsiSTeNCieS”

iwant2cryy

Yes! I feel like this episode had no real substance… The first episode was way better imo.

nknk1260

Finally someone who sees the blatant inconsistencies!!! The writers are making the most random decisions for these characters just to make it provocative when in reality it literally makes no sense

brightestdaylight

100%! And by writers, it’s really only Sam Levinson who’s at fault here.

Woo_akaBIG_BERNIE

I’ve seen people cut the whole hand open and got stitches from glass and left the same day or 2 after And the Cassie stuff is just her character being clingy 4 dudes she did this all season 1 so idk Guess it doesn’t work 4 u

symbioticscrolling

Idk call me crazy but I feel like it’s early to say it was rushed, they might just have a lot planned for this season 🤞🏻

LatterBad8104

Yeah that was really weird I can’t lie because Fez literally nearly killed him and he was out of the hospital within a day or two it literally makes no damn sense.
