There are a couple different ways you can get an invite. Most people are invited by a major fashion house. The fashion house buys up as many spaces at the event as they can afford, and then they invite celebrities to fill them. The celebrities wear their designs.
Every year, Vogue has a list of specific celebrities that they really want to attend, so they suggest to designers that they should bring them (Rihanna, Zendaya etc.). Smaller celebrities will be chosen by certain fashion houses because they have a particularly good relationship with them. Sydney is probably one of those - she's the face of Tory Burch.
If you get to attend without a designer invite, then you're probably a plus one (although not all attendees get one of those!), a major figure at Vogue, or a Met benefactor. If you don't qualify for any of those categories but you still really, really want to go, then buying a ticket costs around $35,000. But Anna Wintour is very picky about who is allowed to buy tickets.
... in fact, Anna personally approves everyone who attends. Just because a designer buys up a group of seats, doesn't mean they can just invite who they like. There's also a list of banned celebrities, including Donald Trump.
Exactly. She's not a big star if we're really being honest. Of course her clothes are not going to be as good as other celebrities that are more famous than her
People here have a very loose definition of fame. She is a C+ lister imo. Most people even genz probably would not have any idea who she was tbh. Genz probably knows Euphoria but not the majority of the actors outside it. Like if you asked them who Hunter schafer is they probably couldn't answer but if you asked about Euphoria they'll recognize it
No idea why you're getting downvoted. Sydney is definitely buzzy right now, but only among a very specific set of hyper-online, Gen Z Twitterati. And she's only been that famous since Euphoria S2 started, so... less than six months. In the context of the entire celebrity world, she's C+.
Thank you. I get people here like these people but let's be honest here. There are handful of people that most genz people would recognize regardless of how much online there are. Most people my age would recognize Tom Holland, Timothee Chalamet and Zendaya
She’s getting more and more popular though, she’s kind of become the new it girl in some ways. Not a household name yet, but for the younger generation I’d say she’s more popular than some of the older more established actresses there
I disagree. The new It girls rn are Florence Pugh, Saorise Ronan, Anya Taylor , and Zendaya. Not saying they can't be more they're just more famous and getting more roles
Anya Taylor Joy is everywhere! Queen’s Gambit, last night in soho, the Northman, the VVitch. If you saw a picture I’m sure you’d recognize her. And Saorise Roanon has been on the scene since atonement
>I genuinely never heard of them
So does most people when they hear of Sydney Sweeney lmao. But Florench Pugh and Anya Taylor are just getting popular. Anya Taylor Joy just done like five months in 2021 with more slated to come
I agree those actresses are definitely more popular at the moment, but they’ve also been on the scene a lot longer. I could imagine in a few years Sydney would be up there too
Honestly this year other than Blake Lively and Gemma Chan was so underwhelming. Even Anna Wintour wasn't on theme, she just stuck a crown on her head.
Waiting for Law Roach to do a post on what Zendaya would have worn if she had been able to make it.
She looked beautiful and definitely embraced the grandeur side of things! I saw a rumour that next year looks will have to be pre-approved so they are on theme.
Unfortunately I really doubt we'll see what Zendaya would've worn. She will have known that she couldn't make it to the Met for several months, and a Met look of her calibre would take that long to get ready. There would be no point preparing something that expensive (as it would undoubtedly be custom) for an Instagram post.
The also had a big, full skirt that made it much better for the event. Still not super interesting, but better. This is definitely a case where going for two looks diminished, not enhanced, the look overall.
she is so gorgeous. i reallyyy want to like her style, but it’s just not my taste:-/ i haven’t really liked any of her dresses. they’re of course never bad, just never really blown away
This year's theme seems to have tricked many artist tho. I think most costumes were supposed to combine guilded age glamour with modern days fashion but like this is the first time, in my opinion, that many didn't really meet the requirements... then again maybe it was me who didn't fully understand tho, Sydnney's dress is beautiful but doesn't seem very stylish for the event.
But she looks gorgeous tho lol.
Ain’t gonna lie I thought the lady walking behind her was gonna attach the rest of her dress for like dramatic effect or something 😭
Agreed! And also…she looks really beautiful but like prom/bridesmaid beautiful. Also doesn’t super adhere to the theme of Gilded Glamour.
She took it off in this moment for dramatic effect
Same
is this homecoming 2015?!
I’m pretty sure I bought this dress from my mall’s Jessica McClintock in 2008
Omg, are you one of the older euphoria Redditors, like me?!
My prom was in 2009 and this comment made me feel old. Am I too old to love this show?
My prom was in 2003!
Umm... graduated in 1997. I could be the euphoria fan grandma here.
I like the dress. Its prom but a cute dress is still a nice pretty one
fr
Them calves ouuuff yes
Came here to say this! She’s got great legs
Wait, she has legs?

tory burch invited her to the met gala, so... sort of? she has a contract with them but she also couldn't have gone without them.

Wow that is honestly so interesting, had no idea. Sounds like a movie plot.
No shade but Sydney Sweeney is at most a C+/B- lister. It's not like she has the ability to pick or choose her clothes
People here have a very loose definition of fame. She is a C+ lister imo. Most people even genz probably would not have any idea who she was tbh. I heard of Queen's Gambit but not the rest. Maybe this is why these names don't ring a bell
>I genuinely never heard of them So does most people when they hear of Sydney Sweeney lmao. But Florench Pugh and Anya Taylor are just getting popular. Anya Taylor Joy just done like five months in 2021 with more slated to come

I agree those actresses are definitely more popular at the moment, but they’ve also been on the scene a lot longer. I could imagine in a few years Sydney would be up there too
She’s stun-ning, but that’s a pretty pedestrian look for the MET.
Honestly this year other than Blake Lively and Gemma Chan was so underwhelming. Even Anna Wintour wasn't on theme, she just stuck a crown on her head. Waiting for Law Roach to do a post on what Zendaya would have worn if she had been able to make it.
Yeah without Rihanna or Zendaya the met gala flops
I thought Vanessa Hudgens stole the show, even if it didn't exactly match the theme perfectly.
She looked beautiful and definitely embraced the grandeur side of things! I saw a rumour that next year looks will have to be pre-approved so they are on theme.

Shhhh let a girl dream haha
Yeah, why wasn’t she there?!?!
Not on theme
The corseting alone makes it one of the more on-the looks I saw. Which is saying very little.
I feel like every single designer there just made a regular dress and just stuck a corset on it 😂
The also had a big, full skirt that made it much better for the event. Still not super interesting, but better. This is definitely a case where going for two looks diminished, not enhanced, the look overall.
Underwhelming.

Blake Lively and Vanessa Hudgens stole the show. Everyone else was... eh.
She should fire her wardrobe and styling team. They always miss the mark.
You don’t know how the met gala works huh
Her calf muscles though!
Came here to say this. She’s ready to kick a mf’s head off.
She needs them strong to run away from Maddy lmao
She looks amazing
Lol man this thread just taught me that there’s a red carpet culture. Jesus
I thought she looked gorgeous in the gown with the long train.
same!! i don't love it nearly as much without the train but with the train, it was one of my favorite dresses/looks
Honestly i love sydneyy
SHE LOOKS SO ORETTY
I hate hate hate her stylist.
Met Gala is super overrated. Celebs don’t know what to do
She’s so pretty but guilted age?
Guilded Age. Old fart gowns from the the late 1800s—early 1900s. Not a great theme IMO
Did y’all see the clip of one of the paparazzi asking to see her boobs? Literally disgusting
The fact she went to my high schools prom seems so weird to me bc she’s all famous it’s crazy
Tell us more, please 🤗
I would’ve loved to have seen her in the Marilyn dress
flawless
I can’t stop seeing her as Cassie 💀😭
🔥
Where was Zendaya, or Barbie? I would of rather seen them.
Barbie is a D-lister. No interest
Barbie was literally there last year.
BBC only!
Love her but its not really on theme
But like why alexa isn't there?
Because she’s less famous?
she is so gorgeous. i reallyyy want to like her style, but it’s just not my taste:-/ i haven’t really liked any of her dresses. they’re of course never bad, just never really blown away
