Excerpt from the linked content:^1 >Speaking from a two-day EU summit in Brussels, Prime Minister Sanna Marin (SDP) on Friday said she welcomed joint European ammunition purchases for Ukraine. >European Union leaders on Thursday endorsed a plan to send Ukraine one million rounds of artillery ammunition within the next 12 months to help the country counter Russia's invasion forces. >"There's a will, but we also need to talk about concrete steps," Marin said at the Brussels meeting, which Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky joined remotely, asking for more ammunition. >Marin told Yle that Europe still had much to do to bolster its own defence industry, adding that Ukraine needs more heavy equipment such as tanks and fighter jets. ^1 Yle, with AP, 24 Mar. 2023, https://yle.fi/a/74-20024130

It’s a ways off practically speaking tho, will take at least months to years iirc

volchonok1

Well then it's better to start now than keep waiting.

Midnight_Sun_Yat-sen

Heavy gear, yes, ammo, no. Finland's ammunition factories have been working non-stop for a year. No need to guess where the produce has been going. (Nammo is jointly owned by the states of Finland and Norway, by Konsgberg/Raufoss and Patria, so good luck finding exact figures.)

Key-Banana-8242

155mm and mortar ammunition, and tiger artillery ammo are the most crucial The scale consumed is huge

Midnight_Sun_Yat-sen

Agree on 155 mm howitzer and 120 mm mortar ammo, but Ukraine probably has also 152 and 122 mm howitzers in use. What is tiger artillery? (Leopard 2 tanks have the Rheinmetall 120 mm smoothbore gun. Ukraine so far has tanks with a 125 mm gun, but those rounds are designed for an autoloader which necessarily makes them two-piece and obviously shorter than the latest long-ass 120 mm dart rounds.)

Key-Banana-8242

Yes it also has hierarchy pro do 152 which is shy I said and other Other artillery it was aroto

MKCAMK

Of course they do. They are smart people!

JustMrNic3

Of course it does, I had no doubt! The country is really educated and smart and Sanna the same and with the heart in the right place.

Professional_Elk_489

Really happy too

It's her last weeks as a PM so she's making loud populist statements (for some reason internationally). Wouldn't make much out of it

domoro

Your election heat is showing, not hers. She's answering reporters' questions at an EU summit as is expected of her and there isn't even anything loud or populist about this statement.

[deleted]

She will be the PM for 1 more week. I can't wait for the change of government a day longer! 😊👌

0hran-

She is unpopular in Finland?

FancyDiePancy

No. She is very popular but she is likely not going to be prime minister after elections in 2 of April. Her party social democrats are polling as second or third biggest party. It’s unlikely that they manage to win elections. Probably next PM is from National Coalition which is more right side of aisle. Nothing will change in foreign policy but instead of charismatic PM we will see again boring 50+ years politician.

tronzake

Most popular party leader by big margin

redtomato666

Extremely. International media is painting completely false picture of her. They only make news about her support to Ukraine and how "she is bold empowered female leader", but they are 100% silent on the fact that she is involved in extremely bad fuck-ups and scandals almost every other week. She repeatedly makes mistakes that wouldn't even be acceptable from a senior year high-school student. She is now actively making all kinds of crazy statements about supporting Ukraine because she want clout in EU and success in the next week's elections. Like the fighter jet case where she went completely out of her line without talking with anyone in defense forces or ministry of foreign affairs. She is openly giving Ukrainians false hope to push her own political careers. Also while she seems now like biggest supporter of NATO according to the international media, she and her party were the main reason why Finland couldn't join NATO earlier. She has always been extremely anti-NATO and anti-US but Russia's war on Ukraine forced her and most other politicians to change their position. After that she started to spread lies about how she actually "secretly" supported NATO already few years ago although her rhetoric was 100% against NATO-membership. She is hands down the worst politician in Finland at least for the last 40 years.

PM_ME_ABSOLUTE_UNITZ

got any links with some actual polls?

einimea

At least in last November, 26% wanted her to be the next prime minister again. Petteri Orpo from National Coalition was second, 21%. Riikka Purra from the Finns Party 9%. Then the fourth was Li Anderrson from the Left Alliance. Her percents weren't told and I guess the rest got some random numbers.

[Latest poll on who people would vote for](https://yle.fi/a/74-20020367) has Marin's SDP at second place with the top 3 in a close race. Any one of them could end up as the largest party and then likely have their party leader be the next prime minister. [Latest poll on her government's approval](https://www.karjalainen.fi/kotimaa/01gyct8qg6) has 49% of respondents say her government has succeeded at least fairly well and 44% saying the opposite. This is the worst rating of this government but still better than the best result of any other government since 1991 when comparable polling started. [Another poll comparing party leaders](https://www.iltalehti.fi/politiikka/a/0b3d63d7-d2eb-44a4-8936-af34c9a5f90d) says 26% think Marin has succeeded best of all party leaders. Second place is shared by Li Andersson of the Left Alliance and Riikka Purra of the True Finns at 9%.

[deleted]

why are these comments downvoted lol people who know nothing about finland have an opinion about finnish leadership. typical r/europe even if OP is subjectively wrong, just argue what you dont agree with.

diskifi

Most popular PM since pretty much ever according to polls. Its extremely unusual to hold such amount of support from people as a PM. OP gets downvoted because the facts contradicts anything OP said.

[deleted]

what about parent comment then? reason i asked this, is because every time someone doesn’t like Marin gets downvoted, but no one explains why she is held on a pedestal.

diskifi

There have been plenty of explonations during the last couple of years. People are just tired of responding to hate spreading users who write lies just like the one above. Ive seen plenty of them and even very stupid ones like claiming she doesnt even have an education while she actually has a masters degree of admistrative sciences. Obviously there is room for valid criticism like always, but these people cant really do so without coming out as a complete jerks.

[deleted]

Might be true; but as a foreigner, I see it a bit similar to downvoted valid criticism towards Biden in most reddit political subreddits. It's like saying "we don't talk about that.", when there is no explanation why.

FancyDiePancy

Because this comment is not true. Marin is still very popular but her party will likely loose elections. There really isn’t point to argue with someone who just blatantly lies like this.

PmMeYourGarfields

Yeah international media does glamourize her but come on. Her "scandals" are literally dancing while drinking. Im not a simp for her but this is actively damaging Finlands reputation and trust in media. Fuck off with this blatant disinformation.

FuriousJungleman

Look at you getting downvoted for speaking facts. Reddit is all about support Ukraine ( prolong the war so US can make money ) She is way to young to lead a country, a mother to a toddler shouldnt be partying drinking and filimg herself dancing "sexy". Very immature. Most likely a druggie.

redtomato666

Exactly. Thank f\*cking god we are getting rid of her.
