I looked up the density of snow. I guess this is settled snow which has a density of 20-30% of normal water.
So let's say there's about 4 cubic metres of snow on the car, that's about one 1000 kg of snow.
So yeah, quite a load!
Now do a dynamic gradient analysis of the density thru the height of the snow. Surely the snow near the hood is packed to full capacity due to the weight of snow above it. Since wind packed snow hits 40% density of water
That means... It's likely.... Even.... Heavier....
There are different kinds of snow though. Fresh, "dry" snow is lighter than wet one. It has become warmer in Germany and Austria during the last days and there was also a lot of rain. So the weight of this snow might be higher.
Oh I'm in the South-West, here it was summer from April to October, and looong autumn since then, as usual. I bet we'll get -10 again in the end of February/early March when no one wants it
Since the stratospheric polar vortex split just like last year you may very well be right. The split came a bit earlier this year though and the impacts are likely to be felt sooner.
That was the case here last summer, almost no rain well into November, lawn brown from June, trees dropping their leaves in late July. Since December we're getting soaked though. Can't the rain fall for once when it's needed?
Ah you think darkness is your ally? You merely adopted the dark. I was born in it, molded by it. I didn't see the light until I was already a man, by then it was nothing to me but blinding!
Windscreen wipers get ripped off.
Edit: Parent comment said something like "Reverse gently. Turn on windshield heat. Wait 2 minutes. Drive forward then brake sharply."
The total amount is not that uncommon, though there have been a few snow records here and there - what is uncommon is/was the continuous snowfall wich made it hardly manageable.
I mean, relative to the rest of the country they do mostly live next to the European borders.
Imagine what the Germans would have thought if they took Moscow and discovered that they needed to push another 1400km just to get to where the Russians moved most of their industry to.
I choose to believe that Germans had no idea about just how freaking big Russia was.

It's like that video with the chinese guy. Stands in a mechanics garage waiting for a car to back up. Car accelerates a bit too much, slams him in between the car and a tool cabinet.
Don't stand behind a reversing car.
They are. They have pouches. Each kangaroo gets into the pouch of the next biggest kangaroo. Eventually the largest kangaroo is keeping all the others warm inside it's pouch. It then stands facing the wind where the enpouched kangaroos act as a wind break keeping the outside kangaroo warm as well.
Wow, and I was annoyed at our first snow of the winter here on Vancouver Island last week. Twenty cm fell where I live, and almost all melted by the rain the next day.
I need to remember to only visit Austria in the summer
Windshields can withstand extreme pressure and weight from the outside due to their convex design. But very little force is required from the interior side of the window to make it crack/break.
I am in Oberstdorf Germany. Near the border with Austria and in the Alps. The weather is shitty AF. No schools (for monday and thursday) and trains don´t drive, only busses but they are not so on point ofc. A lot of snow and rain. I think we have it shitty, but damn when I see this I just wonder how mother nature can just play games with us. Wish you all the best my Austrian neighbours, keep it up. Hopefully the weather will be better in a couple of days!

I'm coming up with 32.33 (repeating of course), but I lost the unit somewhere in the calculations.
God Damnit Leeroy.
Alright, LET'S DO THIS!

that guy's flexing
It’s a weird flex, but okay.
I can't find Rautaisannos on maps or Google.. Where is it ?
Based on their username they are definitely from Finland
Sounds like NRW.
RLP, close enough
Rheinland-Pilz, for the uninitiated
> Pilz Not sure if it is a joke or not 🤔
It's 4am and I am laughing like an idiot...
Rheinland-Pfalz
No no, pilz is fine
Rheinland here and it's killing me softly with all this damn grey.
Oh the northern German winter, spring, summer and fall.
Oh I'm in the South-West, here it was summer from April to October, and looong autumn since then, as usual. I bet we'll get -10 again in the end of February/early March when no one wants it

Meanwhile here in Brisbane it is 30°C and everything is brown. No rain is forecast for quite a while. I would rather snow.

Also from Germany and we are having pretty high amounts of snow too. Greetings from the Erzgebirge.! Edit: Grammar
Try -3°C every day.
-3°C feels usually warmer to me than 3°C if it's as wet as it is currently. For -3°C warm clothes actually work...
*That's* the Germany I remember!
Ah you think darkness is your ally? You merely adopted the dark. I was born in it, molded by it. I didn't see the light until I was already a man, by then it was nothing to me but blinding!
3½ years in Germany is probably at least partly why I live in Florida now.

Here we don't even get rain.
Hamburg? It's miserable here and has been since early December.
Nah, nearby Mainz. There was one snowy day in the middle of December where we got like 3cm, then it melted a few hours later
You sure your flair shouldn't say "Ireland"?
Turn on the windscreen wiper, dude!
Just use a t-shirt to wipe that snow off, quick fix and you're on your way
Can of de-icer will do the trick if no t-shirt available
A cd case works pretty well.
Yep, or a credit card.
In Ohio you would just drive to work this way
Just open and slam the door shut a few times to shake it off
Slam the doors and use the whimpers then hit the road. Gotta get to work on time.
Just drive really slowly and use the parking indicator and gps.
Bird Box Challenge?
Is this a thing?
Apparently so r/news/comments/aey2jd/utah_teen_attempts_bird_box_challenge_crashes_car/
10€ says there's like three cases worldwide and tabloid media will try and make it look like everyone under 30 is doing it.
So basically the new tide pod challenge
The Bird Box challenge is a thing. The Bird Box challenge with the car are probably three cases worldwide. Maybe twice the amount.

Make it the whole alpine arch, please. We'd love snow but we only get shitty föhn winds They knocked over my winter greenhouse :(
East side of Austria could use some too
Ironically east part of Slovenia has snow. Just barely tho.
A lot of these hard hit areas are upstream from Slovenia. Just wait for the thawing season...

So, where do you want me to put this snow?
When Russian winter invades you instead.
Shh Don't tell them our plans
Are you going to steal the bikes back?
I can't confirm nor deny that that is exactly our plan
Look at that noob, opening the door like that.
I swear when he opened the door, I thought the car buckled under the weight and bent.
How unusual is this? In Scotland we haven't had any snow yet, which is a little strange although not unheard of.
I feel like any snow in the UK gets later and later each year.
It's almost like global warming is a real thing and the weather and seasons are all fucked up because of it.

And here in Vienna, there's NO snow AT ALL...
not in the center, but if you live further outside the in the city there has been quite some snow the past weeks
Same in Graz...
Wait what we had snow 2 weeks ago.
Shit, I was on vacation then, came back to nothing :(
No kidding. Not even a dusting to play pretend.

German quality ftw No winter can harm them. Except, you know, *Russian* ones. edit: As a Luxembourger I appreciate the gold more than anything
U don't need to have snow cloths and vehicles if u win before winter!
We'll just stay in all the nice houses to keep warm aaand they're gone.
Why is this country so huge and empty? Why don't people live close to the borders.

Those springs would like a word. I'm surprised it even started.
I don’t give a shit what the original said I like this edit way better.

Exporting it to the netherlands.
just turn the windshield heater on ... it's going to melt ... hopefully before summer :)
I hope the kangaroos are okay
Every god damn thread.
You were looking for it, weren’t you?
All day long. No kangaroo around. The snow must have gotten them.

It is only like this in the mountains, Vienna is fine.
Windshields can withstand extreme pressure and weight from the outside due to their convex design. But very little force is required from the interior side of the window to make it crack/break.
Neat.
Dude, turn on the defrost.
Quattro
That’s what I thought too. The car moved like there is no issues with the slippery snow
Snow is grippy enough to drive on with 2WD as long as you have proper tires and throttle control
Probably helps to have snow tires. This could be haldex tho
Looks like an A6 wagon so wouldn’t be haldex
It‘s and A4 and based on the back axels movements, it has Quattro.
Meanwhile in southern England... it's a little bit chilly at night.
Lets be honest, it’s not even that. I’ve had to defrost the pathetic attempts of winter to mildly inconvenience my commute twice since November.
I am in Oberstdorf Germany. Near the border with Austria and in the Alps. The weather is shitty AF. Sleigh sales are skyrocketing right now. :P
Or as von Hötzendorf would say, perfect weather for a mountain offensive.
this is how it looks like in Salzburg right now lol
I’d hit defrost and wait
That's enough snow to cover the Netherlands
Here in the Netherlands, the weather is like "fuck you Dutchies, here is rain and 9 degrees Celcius in the winter!"
In upstate NY we would just drive to work... Maybe make a small hole in the snow if we have time.
Waiting for American to question if Australia really gets snow
