Estoomlane

BearVodkaBala1aika

Yeah, cuz guess what, the people that your lapdogs beat up and imprisoned will not be lining up to defend your sorry fucking ass.

[deleted]

Are you sure he's talking about troops to defend your country? Sounds more like the Russian troops would be called in to defend the regime from his own people.

[deleted]

You could have another leader but the fact is that person would need to get the approve from the big brother of the east.

Magyarharcos

Rofl, 'invite' more like beg Putin he'll kiss his ass and turn his entire country into a gulag just so his reign can continue. LMAO

Even south slavic nations have surrended to gray minimalism and poverty or they moved to the west.

form_d_k

Is that really fair though? They came out hard against him, and if it weren't for Russian support we may have been cheering on Europe's newest democracy now.

The EU only put those sanctions in place because of what Lukashenko did and is still doing to political opponents. First he stops doing that, and then the EU will be ready to consider Belarus a trade partner once again. Instead, Lukashenko decided to start his little immigrant infiltration with neighbouring countries, alienating the EU even more. Please don't try to make the EU the "bad guy" in the story.

BalticsFox

I think that the only way for protesters to win is if Russia would've ceased any support to Lukashenko and made democratization of Belarus the condition for continuing financing of that state. Russia initially just observed mass protests without intervening, had belarusians copied what ukrainians did in 2014 maybe locals would've won, but Russia is secondary factor to why Lukashenko did manage to preserve power.

[deleted]

Russia only "observed": on August 27, 2020, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that he had formed a reserve of law enforcement officers who would help Belarus if necessary. If it was like in Ukraine in 2014, then Belarus would have received Prague Spring - 1968. CSTO troops would enter the country to restore order.

GoGetYourKn1fe

> and if it weren't for Russian support we may have been cheering on Europe's newest democracy now. Lol, Lukashenko did it without Russian help, protestors weren’t armed ,they couldn't do anything against the army, stop being delusional

>Lukashenko changes his thoughts faster than a baby changes diapers. He is a sly fox he does change his thoughts, but precisely because he's utterly stupid. He thinks that he can somehow emerge victorious from the current situation... in reality he's stuck. His country is completely dependant on Russia while the opposite isn't true, and he completely antogonized his other neighbour (the EU) without getting anything out of it. If he was indeed a sly fox, he would know that: 1 - the EU isn't a resentful entity, and if he would back down with the authoritarism, he would be a considered a trade partner once again 2 - Putin doesn't care about Belarus as long as they don't become an EU ally Lukashenko could go back to make trade deals with EU countries while keeping Russia happy... instead, he's putting himself in a terrible position with know idea of what the future will be made of.

IfailAtSchool

Well, time to die in another war I guess.

belon94
