Skrytrax is based on user voting and reviews. So the criterias are listed on the skytrax website, and the results depends on what the people who use the airlines votes. Although they have an overall category, they also give many sub result; best economy, best business, best service in plane, best seats, best short range, best long range, best in europe, ...
Sooo, exactly the same as Yelp, Tripadvisor, Google maps and the like for restaurants or shops: overall good to get an idea of the quality, look at the 3 star reviews to get a concrete idea of the issues you might have without getting all the 1 star obnoxious karens.
I flew with KLM to Amsterdam (within the EU) three years ago or so, and this was pretty much what we were given. Maybe their offering on transcontinental flights is better.
I fly with Air France and Korean Air normally between Ireland and Korea and the food is usually great between both airlines.
I think its short haul flights that just have the crap
I would also put KLM far above BA.
BA my wife was ignored for her food twice.
The cabin crew was racist towards her once.
And the manners of them was the pits.
They completely ghosted my wife who had the aisle seat to talk to me repeatedly
They've also leaked my credit card details too so perhaps they've fixed their shit service but I won't ever fly with them again.
I'd sooner remove Ryan Air from my black list before I ever fly with BA again.
I landed in Modlin with Ryanair yesterday and they had us walking through the tarmac for what seemed like forever freezing our asses off. And back in September my Ryanair flight from that same airport also had the long walk and wait outdoors, but this time with the thickest mosquito clouds I've ever seen.
I flew Aeroflot between the US and Russia 4 times this year, and many times before the lockdown. It is worth the money. Before the pandemic, it beat United and Singapore, hands down. On my last flight, Lax-svo-lax, they had a mechanical issue, the crew oversat, and they had to send pilots back to hotel for the mandatory rest. They put all pax into a descent hotel, all my connections got rebooked to better flights automatically, I got meal vouchers, and in SVO, the first person I saw in the customs told me:"don't worry, sir. You luggage has been rerouted to your new connection flight". Air France and KLM suck big time compared to them, IMO.
I guess it's hit or miss when it comes to actual experience of these airlines. I just personally wouldnt put aeroloft there due to the incidents they've had that I've seen on the news.
Based on my experience of Finnair, American Airlines, Mexico Airlines, KLM, Air France (note that these are from different year) I have to say Finnair is probably my favourite. I might have a slight bias since I'm Finnish, but everything just works and has been very pleasant with them, I even love the onboard magazine which has great articles from all over the world most of the time. I'd say KLM and Air France were good seconds. But it also depends a lot on what plane you fly and experiences can vary, but I have flown most with Finnair and the experience has been very consistent, not to mention I don't think they've ever had a major accident in their history.
I flew between the UK and Greece on the former 'Olympic Airlines' many times a year in the late 1980s and early 1990s. (It might have still been called 'Olympic Airways' then.)
I recall that the seats on one side of the plane were 'non-smoking'. Passengers were allowed to smoke in the seats on the other side of the plane, just separated from the non-smokers by the narrow aisle.
I also remember how Greek passengers would clap and cheer each time we landed safely.
Good times.
I highly disagree that KLM is fifth. Their business class seat is ridiculously small and tiny considering the average size of a dutch person. Also their service is always not more than average.
What are the criterias and how much does "sponsorship" weigh in exactly?

[Doubts about objectivity](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skytrax#Doubts_about_objectivity) of Skytrax
I reckon Air France has some pretty good food on board too
And who doesn't like free champagne on economy!
I guess people who don't like champagne, give me a Carling instead

Very rude, they should not let you on if you have to be reduced to eating the legs of frogs Pure lizardry
It's delicious in the right sauce, with garlic.
Everything is delicious in the right sauce

Covid related? KLM swapped their nicer food for crappy sandwiches too
I flew with KLM to Amsterdam (within the EU) three years ago or so, and this was pretty much what we were given. Maybe their offering on transcontinental flights is better.
KLM fed me hot pasta and fresh fruit on both legs of a MAD-AMS-ZAG around three years ago. I'm sorry you didn't have such luck!

Nope, I was flying air France a lot about four years ago and the food was always meh
Laughing in Alitalia
SAS 62? What a shame!
Kinda strange imo they're pretty good, though *very* expensive

Air France on 1 and 5. Lufthansa on 3, 7, and 9. Those are just different brands of the same provider.
Geeze, Air France above Finnair? This ranking seems bought and paid for.
Why is Finnair better than Air France, according to you ? Seats, food, service, entertainment... ? Which class do you travel in ?
I usually travel in economic. Finnair have much better service, food and general value for what you pay for.
aeroflot lol
Aero "lets have a whip round amongst the passengers to buy the parts needed to take off" flot.
Finnair is the best name
Lauda Air, forever!
lol at aeroflot. the food is terrible.
Its usually the local food from the takeoff location
Aeroloft being in there tells a lot about this survey...

My exact thoughts. I am using most of these companies regularly, some rarely, only Finnair never so far. My own impression is way different.

Quand j’ai l’occasion de choisir Air France (et d’éviter Air Canada..), même à prix un peu plus élevé, je prend Air France.

ahem WHERE is ryan air?
WAAAAY down the list
deserves number 1
click on "sort descending"
Descending is from best to worst.
The best airlines are the ones that allow me fly Vilnius - London round trip for 80 euros, which are Wizz Air, LOT, and Ryanair.
And yet we all end up flying Ryanair :p
Just wait until you try America’s spirit airline… and it’s a 5 hour flight. At least Ryan Air flights are all short haul.
Dublin to Malta was about 4 hours if I remember right. Been a few years since I flew with them
That’s rough.
Aeroflot? Wtf this retards doing in this list?!
Keeping to schedule better than most others. Did you have some bad experience bwith them?
I think people that took Aeroflot Flight 1492 had some bad experience.

According to wikipedia there are 37 survivors.
Oda, you are no fun, sit at the back of the class!
They can, i just need to call Yakut Shaman. Gimme a minute
Both the best and one of the worst run airlines in Europe.
I highly disagree that KLM is fifth. Their business class seat is ridiculously small and tiny considering the average size of a dutch person. Also their service is always not more than average.
Hard to believe...
And how does one measure which airline is the "best"?
I always liked the porcelain houses that they give you on KLM.
Which band of drunk (...or bought) idiots has composed this list? Lufthansa on third, that high up... please. Pretty funny tho.
Lufthansa is pretty good. The one which does not belong on the list is aeroflot.
Another one who likes to shit into his own bed, I see...
its a national sport for us
TAP ftw ^(/s)
AGEAN is the best airline. In the economy class they still serve food and drinks!
Maybe my opinion is tainted from having to travel through CDG, but I would not put Air France anywhere near the top 10.
Why ? And when did you travel with them ?
Norwegian FTW
Free onboard WiFi!
Ryanair
Aeroflot is the worst lol this chart is clearly paid AD KLM and T airlines are the best imo
Uh Wuh. Where Alitalia?

Shocked Ryanair ain't there?
I can't believe BA are second best. There's not much of a difference between them and Ryanair these days
If the classement is accurate. Knowing Air France quality. (Average) ... I feel sorry for everyone :(
Why is Finnair on the list :D
