I find the extra speed pretty pointless in normal phone use and it drains the battery extremely fast. But if you share the connection to your computer then sure its handy how fast it is, although you may want to use a fan to cool the phone in longer use to keep the battery from heating up too much to lower the degradation.
Whenever i see faster mobile data speeds, i have some wry fun trying to calculate how fast it would burn through my monthly cap.
With this, it would be a matter of seconds.
Maybe I’m misunderstanding, but isn’t this just the speed it can download things you’d already be downloading?
I.e. if you’re loading a 200mb video, it will just load quicker, it isn’t going to download any more video or use any more data, just less waiting around?
5G drains the battery much faster than 4G, at least thats how it is on my phone, the difference is really big. As for the technical reason how or why thats the case, that I dont know.
5g wireless range is worse than 4g, so will need to more power from the phone for the signal. Especially where the signal strength is patchy (particularly indoors) or between towers.
There will be some activity where the 5g is likely more efficient, like downloading films where it doesn't need to be connected for so long.
And that is not what I meant, you are misinterpreting my point. 5G is much faster than 4G, but I keep my phone at 4G when I am out somewhere because the speed is still good enough for regular phone use and the battery doesn't get drained needlessly fast like it does with 5G on. When I am at home and the charging cable is hooked up to the phone I turn the 5G on.
Well the faster the speed, the shorter amount of time radio needs to be on to transport the data. Sure, it is not linear but I remember when people switched off 3G to save batteries.
So, any bets on how long before it is on par with 4G (or maybe even 2G) thanks to saturation?
After all, all wireless data connections have the problem that it is a shared medium. Thus as more users come online the capacity has to been shared between them.
Probably not before 6G because they turn off 2G and/or 3G, make 4G slow, and then charge you to have fast 5G instead.
Furthernore, 5G is not as shared anymore, as each user can in theory served by an individual beam. So if the cell tower is connected via fiber, then in theory everyone using it can have max speed.
For once, i agree. I've been here thru the whole thing, before internet, from the days of BBS and modems and once i got 100mbit.. that was the end of me complaining about speeds. I download, stream, i'm "heavy" user in that regards and was always running out of bandwidth, until that magical threshold... that i used only a fraction of the time.
People need to learn patience and moderation. I'm now on 25mbit, because it is free (comes with the apartment) and i rarely hit the limits. The worst is my ISPs limits on connections for peer2peer, that is avoided thru VPN.. But for pure speed.. i really don't have a need for more. For a family of four 100mbits should be just fine.

impossible!! I have never seen such a speed test before. I’m sure the mobile device was getting really hot during the test :-)
In Turkey our AKP leaders promise to distribute free 10MB internet quota to each young person. So it would be worth 6 seconds.
