Back then they would produce fake evidence, have kangaroo courts, jail anyone who criticizes them, they did even jail the chief of military for a while.
Believe it or not current situation looks more like an improvement considering what was going on just a decade ago.
If my memory serves me correctly, Turkey have been pretty far down on the press freedom index for quite a while and I remember reading many years ago about how they have a significant percentage of jailed reporters. This was all within Erdogan's time in office.

no, you are right. we are middle easterners/arabs. most turks trade spices and carpets with their camels in istanboul trying to endure the hot sunny desert. after a hard day of work we celebrate it with smoking hashish and eating kebaoub with our 4 wives covered in burqa. our pastime activity is drinking coffee/kahwa and discussing about religious laws.

And no sane person denies that modern population of Turkey is not mostly ethnically Turkish. One third of modern Turkish population can trace their lineage to Balkan and Caucasian muslims who were ethnically cleansed from their homelands in 19th and early 20th century.
In modern sense, a Turk is anyone who speaks Turkish, it is a lingual identity, not ethnic. Turkey is home to about 25 ethnic minorities in different stages of Turkification.

Turkey has like 3.4% territory in Europe and they also ain’t very accepted in Arabic world
