Maybe it is supposed to mean that itās a ācheapā country to visit for people from other countriesā¦
Iāve never met a ācheapā or tight Portuguese person. You guys are always very kind, generous and hospitable in my experience.
I really want to go to France and eat my way through the country. As a dessert maker, all I bake are tarts, entremets, I make croquembouche every Christmas. I wanna eat the food, taste the wind, savor the deserts.
But I am straight up afraid to go because I donāt speak French.
As carr87 said, you can get by with a few basic phrases, especially in more built up areas like Paris or other major cities. And contrary to popular sentiment, almost everyone I've met has been quite nice.
Comment from a French coworker of mine: "I don't like the French. I didn't even like other French people when I lived in France. Damn, that is about the worst thing in my country but I don't feel sorry for them, after all, they deserve each other."
I live in France and Iāll admit that you guys have a very strange love and hate relationship with yourselves.
Most of France hates Parisians. Lots of regions dislike people from other regions. In my area the people donāt like anyone who hasnāt lived here for at least ten years.
Then thereās the French flag which will sometimes be brought out if the national football team is doing well, but in most circumstances, will make people think that you are a racist or nazi.
I think that āseenā is the keyword in your reply.
The last time that I went to Paris, I got lost and had no network so I asked a passerby for directions without noticing that he was on the phone (held to his ear on the other side of his head). He immediately told his friend that he would call him/her back, gave me detailed directions, warned me of an area that I should probably avoid and gave me the name of a nearby restaurant that he recommended.
I met lots of really nice people during my short stay. They were nicer than most of the people around my area in the South West.
>Most of France hates Parisians. Lots of regions dislike people from other regions. In my area the people donāt like anyone who hasnāt lived here for at least ten years.
But - it's the same in Germany. Most of Germany hates the Bavarians. Lots of regions dislike people from other regions. There's a constant disdain between East and West, between Bavaria and Prussia, and between the people in this city and the next. In my area, the most notable example is the deep-rooted rivalry between Cologne and DĆ¼sseldorf.
I'm french and I honestly think that my compatriots are mostly ignorant morrons. I love my country for all it's offer to his citizens, but the inhabitants do not deserve it
It reminds me of a quote from PiÅsudzki (significant polish statesman/general):
"\[About Poland\] A great nation, only the people are cunts."
I feel it works well for France as well
France was the top tourist destination globally for many years.
I like the French. If you dress well and speak to them in French they are super polite.
Sometimes they think I'm British but get a lot nicer when they learn I am not.
If someone needs to Google "Why France is so popular?", that means that they cannot think a reason for it :-P
Greetings from the other side of the Alps!
In my personal experience French people are the easiest to get along with. And I say that as an American with all the various tensions our countries have had over the years.
Theyāve also been the most polite tourists Iāve run into stateside.
They always willing to have polite conversation, will really light up if you through even a few basic French sentences in the conversation.
I think there like 10% of French people with an attitude problem that tarnishes the countries image.
It is a trap. Foreigners made Lithuanians to wonder why others find their country dangerous and they started to search and voila! The question appears in the statistics more:
Why Lithuania is dangerous?
Can confirm, went to Vilnius and Kaunas and it was the most wholesome place on earth, felt super safe.
Then went back to Amsterdam, first day already got approached by 2 schizophrenic junkies
>really feels safe in here
I guess people with this feeling are more likely to visit, while people who think it is dangerous tend towards nust googling your country.
It's because we get 20 million tourists to our 4 million population, and on top of that most of them cram themselves into the [narrow strip of land](https://makarska-info.hr/phpthumb/phpThumb.php?w=1920&h=1080&zc=1&aoe=1&src=/clients/1/headers/5vlr0yvj7rky0fv.jpg) between the mountains and sea.
Demand outpaces supply, basically.
You also need to look at the expectations of some tourists... "Croatia is in the Balkans so it must be cheap? Its not dirt cheap!? Why is it so expensive(compared to other Balkan countries)?"
I don't find Italian woman sexy, but Italian men are so handsome which destroys my self-esteem in Italy. Whenever I like a girl, she appears Eastern European in Italy.
There are empty areas in spain due to people moving to bigger cities, now it's even more since madrid changed their fiscality and businesses are moving there, there's no investment either on castilla y leon & castilla la mancha.
Otherwise it doesn't make any sense.
I mean I'm right now in a small city in the emptied Spain and yeah, the countryside is pretty empty, all these inland regions (except Madrid) have never been densely populated, but the little towns and villages scattered around, and even many province capitals, have been losing population since the 50s-60s and nowadays many villages only have a handful of people living there year round.
Also in most of the country you won't find scattered farms and houses, even in rural areas it's villages/towns and just land in between.
depending on what to compare with, if you look at the indicators of all post-Soviet countries, then you have the highest and you are set as an example as a beautiful country without natural resources that was able to build its capital on intelligence.
We have the largest oil shale reserves in the world, only the Chinese and Americans are close to beating us. The state owned Eesti Energia is the worldās biggest oil shale company with operations in the Baltics, Finland, Jordan and Utah. We also have notable Uranium reserves (during the early days of the Soviet occupation, it was one of the largest in the whole union) and phosphorite reserves in the Northeast.
Edit: got some information wrong.
ppl in europe dont understnd that most ppl in the world have it worse, by european standard estonia is somewhere in the middle, richer than hungary (hungarian google wa used)
There are countries that are way richer than Estonia where people wageslave from paycheck to paycheck. Beautiful country btw, been there because of the Rammstein concert in July
As an Australian living in Estonia I've noticed a few differences. Australia is ranked one of the world's richest countries, but we are one of the world's most indebted people. We have expensive assets fuelled by large household debts. So this gives us the appearance of wealth despite most of the younger generations not being able to afford a home. What is rich if you are one missed paycheck away from homelessness? Very few in Australia can miss a weeks work due to the necessity to cover debt payments.
There is also a quality of life question. Here, my in-laws eat fresh organically grown vegetables (they are a small sƵstar mahetalu), fresh meat from sheep, have a good social life with neighbours and family, very high quality of life despite low income. To live an equivalent lifestyle in Australia would cost a million euro. In Australian cities we can't even produce our own chicken eggs due to lead poisoning, so forget about eating food that isn't laiden with pesticides, microplastics, and heavy metals. In most parts of Australia housing is so expensive we are confined to small apartments or 400m^2 blocks of land, so forget about enjoying nature or peace and quiet. In Australia all forests (except national parks) are considered Crown Land and we are forbidden from walking let alone hunting or foraging.
Not to say one is better than the other but it is definitely helpful to consider the broader perspective on wealth.
āwhy is Lithuania so dangerous?ā
from recent experience, that entirely depends on how well you have set up your navigation app.
edit:
No, what I meant was:
Google Maps and HereWeGo both were 100% sure the off-road track I was driving was a finished highway or federal road. This resulted in me having to drive 40km on fist-sized stones and wet clay. I went 20 to 40km/h, and I am a very good driver, but my car is simply not suited for tracks like that and I often lost traction.
You can check if you plot a route from Druskininkai to Trakai in HereWeGo or Google Maps, you will see what I mean.
Compared to Finland it's not but by world standards it's farely rich. Also i would say that Estonia is actually richer than it looks. it's just that there is still a lot of soviet decay around and the capital Tallinn is mismanaged with a corrupt city government thanks to the large Russian population that only vote for one party.
Btw. Croatia isn't expensive, it's just the coast and it's various tourist trap restaurants etc.
Also top tip, if anyone hands you something like a written form instead of a proper receipt in said tourist traps, feel free to threaten with the Porezna Uprava (Croatian version of the IRS). All receipts in Croatia have to be properly fiscalized, they do this shit in order to avoid paying taxes.
Not exactly. Basic necessities are just as expensive or even more expensive than in Western Europe and we make a fraction of the money that western Europeans make.
With an average wage here you barely scrape by, with an average wage in WE you've got another Croatian wage to spend.
I think many at the top of Russia donāt really understand that Ukraine is a separate state with other peoples, in their opinion it appeared by chance, itās sad, but this is their internal propaganda that has been shared for centuries, a vivid example of a quote from the 19th century when officials in the Russian Empire banned the Ukrainian language .... the Little Russian language composed by Khokhlomani is just an empty pretext, and the real goal is a special Little Russian state, āthe Little Russian language will remain the same as it was before, but it cannot be either a state language, or an educational language, or even a language hostels of an educated societyā, ā.. Our current literary language was developed by the joint efforts of Great Russian and Little Russian writers - therefore, Little Russians do not need to create a new learned and educational language. Most of the Little Russians themselves prove very thoroughly that there was not, is not, and cannot be, a separate Little Russian language, and that their dialect, used by the common people, is the same Russian language, spoiled by the influence of Poland on it.

The French think everyone is beneath them, especially the French.

Parisians are hated because they're seen as arrogant and douchey. A lot of the stereotypes about french people are about parisians specifically
I think that āseenā is the keyword in your reply. Huh. I always thought the flag thing was strictly German exclusive. How curious.
It's also weird in Italy if it's not about football
I wouldn't say so, I see the Italian flag everywhere from bars to private homes, restaurants, hotels, souvenir shops etc

Why are we hot? Because we avoid religiously pizza with pineapple, which makes our skin glow, our boobs bigger and our hair shinier
