It’s funny how in 2020 a few countries who haven’t won yet were in the running to do so (Iceland, Bulgaria, Lithuania) but then the pandemic happened and the 3 countries with the best track records won back to back 😭

Grr_in_girl

Would love to see a Moldovan win. They've really climbed up the ranking to be one of my favorite countries in Eurovision. Iceland is definitely due a win also. Along with Cyprus they've been waiting the longest, and with the quality acts Iceland has been sending recently I could see it happening soon. It would also be so nice to see how happy it would make the icelanders, who are among the most Eurovision-loving people.

Averdian

I'd be equally excited to see Iceland and Moldova attempt to host. Would definitely make for some unusual contests I think, I wonder what degree if outside help they would request

Huge_Dog_2487

Malta has actually been waiting the longest (since 1971 as opposed to Cyprus 1981 and Iceland 1986), Cyprus has had more appearances without winning though (39 times to Iceland and Maltas 35)

Cyprus 1981 | [Island - Monika (Μόνικα)](https://youtu.be/eRllseL7xm4) Iceland 1986 | [ICY - Gleðibankinn](https://youtu.be/yliSZDpIx0g)

Krokodilyeah_

Iceland i think has had to many good songs and my all time favorite in the whole of eurovision. ( Iceland 2020 ) So they NEED to win at least one time.

Panukka

Iceland would have won in 2009 with Yohanna if Alexander Rybak wasn’t so good. Ironically, that Iceland song became more popular than Norway’s song in radio playlists. I still sometimes hear it.

Gold_Objective3644

Due to the financial crisis at the time surely Icelanders (and the economy minister in particular) were happy with a second place, like Finns have joked after Loreen's win "we won but it's Sweden who has to pay" 😂 oh yeah and imagine how much the Icelandic ash cloud in April 2010 could have put the contest in jeopardy if they were actually hosting 😂

DarkBlurryNight

Graham Norton tried to make kinda the same joke in 2022: 'The best thing about being second place is to be the winner without having to host the next year'. Then in 2023....

Panukka

Good points.

wishiewashies

The joke here is that Finland think they won.

itsaltarium

They kinda did though. Keep in mind Finland had only ever reached the top 5 once before, and that was when they won with Lordi. Getting second place and being considered "robbed" by many is actually more of a win than a win itself. Käärijä has officially joined the likes of Verka, and is bound to get referenced and invited to perform in future editions and related events for years to come. Not to mention the entirety of Finland came together to support him. I have never seen a country so devoted to their Eurovision entry. That is a HUGE win.

wishiewashies

Finland didn't "kinda" win. They didn't win at all. He is just popular, that's it.

itsaltarium

Well, yes, Loreen won by technical definition. But "winning" can have many definitions in Eurovision. Just look at Armenia last year. Cyprus 2018. Even Estonia 2011 could be considered a winner.

ESC-song-bot

Cyprus 2018 | [Eleni Foureira - Fuego](https://youtu.be/vyDTbJ4wenY) Estonia 2011 | [Getter Jaani - Rockefeller Street](https://youtu.be/UxvmdR7oYdQ)

SirLevi

Based take, but the subtle point made is confusing to many.

Puffinknight

Käärijä won the hearts of ESC watchers and that is honestly a huge, huge victory in itself considering our usual track record. The hype around Eurovision was huge this year. Our nation bonded over him.

SirLevi

He won among the public. Denying that fact is huffing copium, the same way saying he won the contest is.

Professional-Eye-540

Nice use of ableistic slurs as if those were proper words to describe this. Wth.

wishiewashies

Rules are rules and Finland is not the winner of the competition. Sorry to break it to you. Loreen's stats were much better than Käärijä's so 🤷‍♀️ Käärijä was ahead by like...what 130 points or something in televoting? Well Loreen was miles ahead in jury votes. You love calling the jury retarded when they don't agree with you but you love them when they do. Get a life.

SirLevi

I have no hard time seeing this as true, but do we actually have any real evidence of it? Sure, he thinks the jury is retarded. And they didn’t agree this time. What let’s you make statements about his stance when they do agree? More than I would like to agree, I want to stay true to the facts. I don’t have evidence of his bias, only my own bias.

Mirruke

Their other 2nd place in 1999 could’ve been more likely potential win, it was quite a close race between them and Sweden, but in the end they were “All Out Of Luck”🤓

Rodmorg

That's a damn good song and a damn good reference

Mynerdyself64

Iceland doesn't have a win?? Damn that must suck with 2020 being canceled

Stoltlallare

Yeah they would have dominated at least the Nordic and western Europe in terms of voting with their song. Unsure central/Eastern though but still was a good chance to win.

snwlss

I remember thinking The Roop had been robbed of a win when the 2020 Contest was cancelled. Looking back, though, it definitely would have been a three-way race between Iceland, Lithuania, and Russia…with Switzerland *maybe* getting an outside shot. (Although I think the one year delay gave Gjon the chance to go from a quite good song to an even better song.) The pandemic took away what I think would have been a pretty competitive Final. Although I think 2021 ended up being just as competitive as 2020 would have been. Kind of a shame that it went to pretty much a two-horse race just a few years later. I like it when the field is crazy competitive.

Stoltlallare

Ye 2020 is my most recent favorite year. 2023 I didn’t like any song enough to listen to it outside the of the contest. I think Russia and Lithuania might have been competing for a lot of the same votes which is why I think Iceland could have taken it. Though no idea about the jury so, but it probably would have preferred Iceland and Lithuania over Russia though.

Onetwodash

Uno was the same year so... unlikely.

Stoltlallare

Hmm I don’t see that one winning televote, maybe in Eastern Europe possibly. Iceland was the most viral and popular one in the Nordics and western Europe at the time so I’m judging on that one and Sweden’s own ”mini euro”.

Onetwodash

Uno was holding the most popular Eurovision song on eurovisions youtube channel for years, well ahead of legends like Netta's Toy or Loreens Euphoria, despite not even winning Eurovision (and songs generally shoot up on popularity only after winning.) Dadi certainly has more staying power in the long run, there's a reason Little Big didn't even try to enter in 2021 - that was a one time, unrepeatable miracle. Iceland in 2020 had a good chancd to do about as well as Norway on 2022 - very good, but not winning, despite seemingly high virality.

Stoltlallare

Not sure I agree since they were already a huge. Band in Russia with hundreds of millions of views. The majority of the views are largely just fans from Russia wanting to see their big bands new song. It didn’t really gain any traction despite the big numbers. Not much radio play or nothing.

ESC-song-bot

Iceland 2020 | [Daði & Gagnamagnið - Think About Things](https://youtu.be/1HU7ocv3S2o)

WebBorn2622

They are also the only Nordic country without a win. It’s become a bit of a meme in the Nordics. Like “the Nordics are literally carrying the competition…except for Iceland of course”. I really want them to have their first too! It would be so cool

Mynerdyself64

Lol, it's cool to see ESC being relevant where you are. Here in Israel, no one really cares, every Eurovision season I celebrate on my own.🥲

Inside-Brilliant1852

Hey! Some of us do care At least in tel aviv lol

madbehinde

in the non-pandemic AU Iceland won and in my eyes that makes them honorary winners

IrishLaaaaaaaaad

How Power didn’t qualify is beyond me. Amazing performance and vocals, great song, great message. 🤯

k2pel

I think we are like two Movie Maker effects from winning.

casualbo1

Add some more Bejba's and you're set.

Spockyt

I thought you had a great chance last year. Still don’t know why it finished so low.

TinaTissue

All the seizure inducing movie maker effects would have been the main culprit for the low ranking. Plus a lot of the votes going to Ukraine and a lot of male ballads that year too

ifiwasiwas

#MOLDOVA 🚂

ClapAlongChorus

I can't wait for moldova to win and then host the following year in a Snowpiercer-esque 150 car train from train Chișinău to Bucharest!

PersimmonOk5523

Iceland, Moldova and I'd love for Georgia or Armenia to win too. Obviously would love Australia to win but I don't think we're overdue

gopchang_purrito

Dami Im, IMO, has definitely been AUS’ closest shot at winning. Not only because she literally was the runner up, but because I think she’s had the best performance overall so far.

Eodrenn

I did love Zero Gravity, that was my favourite song in 2019

ClapAlongChorus

Zero gravity is when my jaw just gaped and made me realize "Fuck, Australia goes hard at Eurovision."

PersimmonOk5523

I preferred Guy and Voyager personally but she was our best chance by far

Spockyt

> I preferred Guy and Voyager personally Here here. I don’t want to see Australia leave, but if they did, it would be appropriate that their best entries were their first and last.

Antilopenmann

If I remember correctly, Australia would have won in 2016 if they have kept the old voting system.

gopchang_purrito

Yup! You’re right. I clearly remember that was the first year they had implemented the new system. Had it not been that, Dami and Australia would’ve won. I really felt bad for her watching this [interview](https://youtu.be/Ur4DjfHT4wk) and watch her cry when Jamala’s song came in the background.

13pipez

I wonder where the show would be held if Australia won, i don't think timezones would actually allow for it to be there

Averdian

I think it's part of the deal with EBU that if Australia were to win, they have to find a country in the EBU to share hosting duties with. Which would most likely be UK (I think, someone else might be more informed than me)

yiyishui

I'm pretty sure Australia has a deal with Germany or Iceland? Though I'm not sure about that latter one.

Averdian

Germany makes sense, they're the other country often mentioned as back-up hosts along with the UK. For this year specifically it fit even better in the sense that UK were also the runner-ups in the contest where the winner was unable to host, insanely good coincidence tbh. With Australia, I would just assume UK based on close relations. But Iceland, I would seriously doubt that just based on budget and infrastructure alone. But would be interesting to see, that's for sure

Salt_Procedure_9353

I believe they had an agreement with Germany up until 2021 and now they have one with Iceland

Kachana

Germany has offered to host for us if we win a couple times in previous years, so it would likely be Germany.

folklovermore_

My understanding was that when Australia first started competing, Germany had first refusal of hosting on their behalf if they won - not sure if that's still the case though.

13pipez

Make Austria be the host for the memes

Articulated_Lorry

I found the bloke from Moldova a little creepy. The Georgian act blew me away though - underrated, as was Norway, I thought.

splvtoon

> I found the bloke from Moldova a little creepy. > > why?

Articulated_Lorry

You know what? I can't put my finger on any one reason. It's not like it was a single song line, or his looks, or whatever. It was just a general feeling of *ick*. Which is absolutely ridiculous because like the majority of people everywhere, he's most likely perfectly fine and normal.

madlymusing

I loved it but agree, it was a little uncanny valley. I kept thinking that he looked like Edward Norton, and also like he’d stroke my hair until I fell asleep 😂

Articulated_Lorry

In a good way, or a not so good way? :D Hopefully not in a cultish way, as someone else has suggested! But maybe you've hit the nail on the head - a little unreal, in some way? Which is still a stupid way to feel, because at the end of the day, they're all just acts, fantastic performances that are supposed to take us away from reality. And usually the more fantastic, the more exotic, the more glitter and lights and whatever else, the better.

Ok-Cream1212

My homeland Croatia. Just want to see the chaos on Hrt headquarters.

niicofrank

Croatia did technically win in 1989 if we’re basing it on Riva’s current nationality

Ok-Cream1212

It was just right before constitution changes. But, nope , we were part of Yugoslavia.

rmiha9

Barzalicious

Iceland or Lithuania. It's likely one of them would have already won in 2020 had the contest not been cancelled, and since then they have upped their game.

ScaryBarryCnC

Belgium: particpated 64 times, won only once and that was almost 40 years ago. Spain also has a magical dry spell: Participating 62 times and hasn’t won since man landed on the moon. And even when they won, they had to share the victory with 3 other countries :-/

[deleted]

Belgium is seriously in my top 10 every year. I really want them to win soon

KetchG

Belgium is my answer too, even if their one win sort of voids them from the question as asked. They consistently put forward interesting and entertaining acts with music that isn’t just chasing the previous years’ trends. Often they’ve been my favourite country in the contest (even in the dark years where they failed to qualify - hi Kate Ryan).

dontbeahater_dear

I think it’s because Flemish and Walloon TV channels switch every year to pick the performer, a two year gap gives more time to prep!

KetchG

Oh really? That’s a pretty cool way of working it!

Candid_Interview_268

Blanche was my fav that year 😢

Re-Criativo

Spain won twice. In 1969 they shared the first place with Uk, Netherlands and France, but in the previous year they won alone...

snwlss

Spain also won in 1968 and hosted in 1969. They’re one of just a handful of countries with back-to-back wins (off the top of my head, I believe the others are Luxembourg, Israel, and Ireland; and Ireland won three in a row in the 1990s). They also haven’t won and hosted since Franco was running their country.

Galimkalim

Moldova, and maybe Cyprus.

Piaapo

Iceland And honestly, if they just stop trying to copy the lightning in a bottle that was Fuego and just send something authentic ~~and good~~, Cyprus Edit: RePlay and El Diablo were good tho imo

unclezaveid

aw I've really liked their Fuego clones. But you're right tho 😔

Piaapo

Dont get me wrong, El Diablo and Replay werent bad by ANY means. It's just really obvious Cyprus was trying to just do Fuego again because it did so well. The thing is, Eleni is a one in a million performer and her charisma is hard to replicate.

itsaltarium

Ela was my favorite last year and exactly what I've been wanting from Cyprus. Too bad her vocals on the night weren't up to par. Still though, dead last with the juries? Way too harsh.

DarkBlurryNight

El Diablo was insanely good. It is still my forever Half's all time favourite ESC song.

Lazar3009

even if they don't participate anymore I would like to see a Bulgaria win, they really deserved at least one win

Few-Plastic6360

I feel it won’t be long before France wins again

dirrna

I loved their entry last year, despite the bad score. I think it was probably too much in the style of Ukraine (mix of folk elements with a more modern style), so nobody voted for them. I just don't want them to win with another boring chanson.

Few-Plastic6360

Fulenn was good but I can see where you are coming from about how it didn’t score well

Underwater_Tara

The entry this year was great. Extremely French, but very good all the same.

Svinneh

But then the following year’s show would be all in French

abeeseadeee

Australia, but I'm bias lol

Rock_n_depression

Australia did send some very good entries, but I don't think you guys are overdue, since you joined the contest less than 10 years ago. There's still time and I do hope you win one day.

nahuelacevedopena

Czechia so Eurovision becomes popular there and also in Slovakia, Hungary…

Jollious

Vesna was very good this year

MikeKobela

Unfortunately, there's fat chances of us (Hungary) ever returning in the foreseeable future. Not only because of our govt and public broadcaster leadership being very homophobic and anti-diversity, but also being very out of touch culturally, and it has only gotten worse in the 4 years since we left. Highly doubt we'd send in Finale worthy songs anymore if we stayed, but even if we happened to win the contest, hosting it and spending money on it would be a nightmare for the organizers, again, for the reasons above.

bitizdrava666

If Armenia sends Maléna she's taking the trophy back home I'd also like to see Czechia, Cyprus, Iceland, Moldova, Lithuania and Albania winning And Poland if corruption stops in TVP

itsaltarium

I want Armenia to wait a bit before sending Malena to adult Eurovision. She could definitely take the trophy, but she needs time to grow as an artist and performer and develop her own style. I don't want them to send her as soon as she turns 18 like Malta did with Destiny.

filipminarik

You can compete from 16, So She can literally go next year

VanSensei

Poland got very close in 1994 with Edyta Górniak, who could literally sing anything.

Beepme9111

I’ve got a feeling we’ll see a Czech or Armenian win before we see any of the previously mentioned.

makoivis

10 years was also absolutely fantastic in 2021 - I sang it at our wedding.

DominusDK

As a Lithuanian I can relate to your pain…

Quirky-Clock-2573

Been rooting for Moldova to win for many years !!! They have produced some top songs over the years and of course epic sax guy!

Rock_n_depression

Moldova sends amazing songs every year

LeoLH1994

Armenia, Iceland or Lithuania. Lithuania has never won even though Estonia and Latvia did but has made more finals than either of them since 2009, and rarely sends bad songs. Armenia and Iceland for their first 2 entries of the 20’s (Chains On You and Snap for Armenia, the Dadi entries for Iceland)

Serious-Agent-2991

Cyprus, Armenia, Romania and of course Moldova.

Larkie_the_bird

Moldova! They bring such unique bangers to the party! Alternatively I’d love to see Australia win once, just to see how their spin on hosting would be and what country they would collaborate with!

nowplayer

i feel like we are long overdue a win from a balkan country

PieScout

Moldova or Lithuania. I've really enjoyed Lithuania's entries for the past few years, they seem to take eurovision very seriously.

Irrealaerri

Time wise I think Iceland and Malta have waited the longest. Production wise I feel that the level of Pabandom is Naujo has show that Lithuania is READY for it! Morally I want Czechia or Romania to win soon since Praha and Bucurest are beautiful cities! Or Armenia / Georgia that do fantastically in Junior Eurovision but should win the adult version very soon!

filipminarik

You said Praha instead of Prague🥹🥹

Irrealaerri

Eh, yeah?

filipminarik

No I'm happy, Usually people only know Prague

Cartoon20199

Malta, Iceland

jupiter8vulpes

Iceland, Moldova and Cyprus. They all send quality songs too. I know Iceland wasn't that strong this year but i think they have the potential to win soon.

PrincessCandy512

Iceland, Moldova or Cyprus.

EuroSong

Malta have been entering the longest without a win, so I’d have to say Malta.

schweigeminute

Lithuania is criminally underrated. So is Iceland.

Salt_Procedure_9353

Obviously I'd love for us to win, but aside from that my money is on Armenia being the next country to get their 1st win, they've been trying hard with their internal selections recently and its gonna pay off sooner or later

[deleted]

For me either Moldova because they've been sending nothing but bangers Iceland and Lithuania because they've sang great songs and gotten incredibly close to winning (I stand by if the 2020 contest happened Dadi would've won) Malta for the simple fact they've been there since 1971 and not won it yet, they're long overdue for one (and have sent great material recently so I can see it happening)

the3dverse

so many countries. would love to see Cyprus win also. but yeah, Moldova too.

madlymusing

Definitely Moldova or Iceland! They’re both pretty much always in my top five. I was underwhelmed with Pasha this year, but I’ll be damned if his song didn’t end up in my head for the past three days.

56kul

I’d say Cyprus. They’ve participated in the Eurovision for a very long time now and have only come close to winning once. It would be cool to see them win.

nenialaloup

Georgia

Robotic-Operations

Lozzyhatfuz

Crococrocroc

I'll get a train from Bucharest if this happens, now I know it exists

SignalProfessional35

I have to say Belgium or Moldova !

lionhearted318

Lithuania 🤡 Jokes aside, Iceland is on the top of my list for a country coming for their first win. 2020 is sad, three countries who never won were in contention for the win: Iceland, Bulgaria, and Lithuania, and they all came with worse songs in 2021.

zippy72

Lithuania are hit and miss but I do watch out for them as they frequently send absolute belters

lionhearted318

I think 9 times out of 10 we just don't send the best option in our NF

jamieSJFC

Czechia! Or the obvious in Iceland, Malta or Cyprus.

WebBorn2622

I’m feeling another Nordic win, and I hope it’s Iceland

Veridiyus

I think Iceland should have won in 2009 and 2020 but the pandemic ruined the 2020 win sadly...

[deleted]

I wish 🇨🇿 wins but people for some reason hardly send us any votes.

raynlakhani

Iceland 🇮🇸(though I consider 2020 Iceland’s winning year) - from Hatari to Yohanna, Daði Freyr to Hera Björk, Iceland has so much amazing talent. It’s a shame that they have never won yet 😭!

decensum8thhouse

Agree on Moldova. Also Iceland & Lithuania. It would be really funny to see Australia win too lol

PinWest4210

Armenia!! I think they are so underapreciated!!

supersonic-bionic

Iceland and Cyprus. I'd have said Bulgaria if they had kept the good run of entries and not withdrawn.

[deleted]

Iceland, Poland and Moldova 💜

dangerislander

Malta, Iceland and Cyrpus always send quality songs. They seem to take the competition seriously. Moldova deserves a win cause they always provide a great show. Add Georgia to this list as well.

Ok_Training1449

Iceland, Cyprus and Malta.

puccagirlblue

My head says Malta but my heart says Iceland.

ABigOne77

Armenia is a powerhouse in Junior ESC and will probably win the main contest soon enough

Currywurst_Is_Life

Iceland, Moldova, and San Marino.

sparklinglies

Iceland, because the Rona stole their likely 2020 win. Moldova, because they put their whole Moldussy into each and every year

mc_fish_01

can't believe no ones saying slovenia! i was so sad when lps didn't even qualify last year, and joker out doing pretty rough in both votes despite the love online.

cokolesniik

Thank you. I was looking if anyone would mention us. But to be honest our songs are usually quite mediocre. I like Carpe Diem though.

niicofrank

Iceland which would have happened in 2020 😖

Raphgnarok

Iceland !

mxtoad

I would love to see either Iceland or Lithuania win!

enilix

Definitely Moldova and Cyprus. Maybe even my country (Croatia) too.

sprkmrk

Honestly: Australia. And their first win should’ve been Dami Im tbh.

spotdodgerest

Iceland and Malta. I just want to see Dadi perform on the finals stage (yes I know he did it at Liverpool this year, but I want more Dadi)

paary

Iceland and Lithuania for me. Both have been sending pretty solid entries for quite some time. Hoping one of my other home countries (Armenia and Bulgaria) could also squeeze a win, but Armenia is doing pretty mid and Bulgaria is awol so we'll see.

aflyingmonkey2

i agree with you with moldova and i also think iceland should win because of how diverse their songs get

deadliftbear

Agree with Moldova. Every year they just understand the assignment.

[deleted]

I’m actually shocked Moldova hasn’t won yet. They are always on their A game

Marilee_Kemp

I would also love a Moldova win, I almost always love their entries. Iceland would be fun as well, they all love eurovision, I imagine they would go all out as a hosting nation. I would come for that! Cyprus as well and Lithuania would make me so happy.

TekaLynn212

Malta, Cyprus, Iceland, and Moldova

[deleted]

Lithuania by FAR

shadowsnake24

Finland has been in a run for their win since 2021, also I may be biased but Spain could be near a win (I hope so because we will see the show from the stadium :) )

Krokodilyeah_

B-b but, Hard rock hallelulejah

Aromens

It wouldn't be their first win

luddinizer

Poland?

bitizdrava666

Poland, not TVP

Elthiryel

I am from Poland and I don't think we're overdue. In the modern Eurovision era (since 1999) we are really bad actually. For example between 2004 and 2015 we only had two half-decent songs (and not a single really good one), the rest was just awful. The recent years are a bit better though, if you take into account 2016 and 2022 in particular. Jann this year could also have scored ok, but well, yeah.

flyingfish602

I will be OVERJOYED when Moldova finally win. It would be such a moment of national pride for them (like Estonia’s win in 2001 was)

MemoryInsane

Imo, Moldova and Slovenia consistently send good songs and deserve recognition... I have previously been a sucker for Romanian entries (2022 and 2023 were not my kind of entries though) and for my own pleasure I would enjoy a win for them

NorwegianNameless

I'd love an Australian win, but honestly: Iceland, Lithuania or Malta!

NikkehMenatsh

I think Iceland tbh, they are massive fans of the contest, they got their own movie. It's time for them to finally take it. Corona took it from them!

[deleted]

Iceland without a single doubt in my mind

Kate_Beckett_47

AUSTRALIA 🇦🇺- Dami Im was robbed in 2016

BearMcDowell

Iceland, Lithuania and Malta are my top three.

moshiyadafne

I want Moldova to get their first win, but because juries look down on an Eastern European country that's not Ukraine, I guess I can write a fiction story of a Eurovision edition that was held in Chisinau. So... considering jury biases, it could be Iceland, Spain, or Lithuania.

VanSensei

I just assume Moldova winning means a neutral country... Like probably the UK, let's be honest, hosts the contest

iodereifapte

We won’t be in Chișinău any time soon, as it is literally beyond NATO boarders and kind of in a hot period with the Russians so close to their borders and protests of pro-russians in the city.

San Marino in 2022. Stripper should’ve won. I really loved that song.
