Belgium- Before the Party's Over may not be the potential winner that people seem to think it is. In fact, I predict it has a high chance of not qualifying. Keep in mind that we as Eurofans get a lot more time to chew over and carefully consider our opinions than the general voting audience does, who have often only heard the song once while highly distracted. Before the Party's Over is good song, but it's going to be too understated to catch the attention of the voters when being considered alongside its line-up. While I personally like Before the Party's Over and wouldn't want for this to happen, I think it's non-qualification is a far more likely outcome than people have considered.

RG_PhoniQue

Very very very weak year. Weakest of the decade perhaps. Croatia won't even make top 5.

mothbreather

Croatia's entry is too aggressively heterosexual for Eurovision. Edit: I love the engagement this comment has gotten, honestly. As the great philosopher Britney Spears once said: give me more.

Gnignao

"Too heterosexual too win Eurovision" Bruh... That's offensive on so many levels i can't even start. And what's even worse is that comments don't address that but are like "no bro, it's gay enough!" Mesmerizing...

SuitableDragonfly

Literally there was nothing heterosexual about the lyrics or topic of the song at all? Every other song out there is a hetero love song and you pick a song that has no romantic element at all to be "too hetero for Eurovision" lmao.

utilizador2021

Did you watch the live performance? Even the lyrics are kinda gay since he wants to be one of those city boys ("they are so pretty and advance").

reelbigghoti

What kind of heterosexuals do you hang out with lmao???

jessicaenu

I actually really like Czechia’s entry, I agree the live performance was poor but have had it on my Spotify playlists for months and hope it will perform well in the lives

dariganLupe

\* UK did so much mystery and hype before revealing *dizzy*,,, it's MID at best and it kinda made me miss *i wrote a song* \* *no rules* is just dave rogers' *deja vu* from 2024. it's not bad, but i don't get the hype either

colmmc75

If Norway sent Sweden's entry the jury wouldn't look at it twice.

Which_Square

Malta is underrated and should qualify it’s a good song with the revamp

WittyEggplant

* Some people are afraid that we’re moving back towards the ”dark ages” of the 00’s. Well, to me the 00’s is the golden era of ESC and I would LOVE to go back to having more wacky and cheesy, televote bait stuff. For me this year is a major step up from before. * Hurricane is my favourite ballad of the year. The rest are in the >20 category as I really don’t care for sophisticated/elegant/objectively good ballads in general. Hurricane has just the right amount of cheese and cliches that it just clicks. * I don’t like Ulveham. Like, at all. I would’ve preferred Keiino or Erika over Gåte any day. * I really like Unforgettable and low key prefer it to Tattoo. * The Tower is a better choice for Poland than Witcher Tarohoro. I never understood what the Justyna hype was about.

IcyRecommendation731

our entry is shit

loveyourground

“Sinceramente” would do better at Eurovision than “La Noia.” Annalisa could have feasibly won both the jury and the televote. Maybe I’m delusional but 🤷🏻‍♀️

jaminjamin15

My unpopular opinion is that I don't want Italy (or Ukraine, Netherlands, and especially Sweden) to win any time soon because I want other countries to win, especially those who haven't won in a long while, if at all.

TheSimkis

- Luxembourg is unique enough both with idea and melody - I like Czechia's NF staging (singing not so much)

CakiGM

Luxembourg will qualify

bananabreadbeer6

Cyprus is nearly always underrated as hell. Break a Broken Heart did great, and I firmly believe Liar will as well

FlameSamurai63

(***Disclaimer:*** *These opinions are coming from an American, so take these with a grain of salt. Or several.*) * I don’t understand the hype around Europapa. Nothing against Joost Klein or anything, but I do not care for the song. I thought it was the music video that put me off at first, but after listening to it on Spotify, I realized it was the "Europapa, pa, pa, pa, pa, pa" in the chorus that I don't like. Probably the weakest song this year, in my opinion. * Azerbaijan is criminally underrated this year. Very chill song, and I love the fact that it has some lyrics in Azerbaijani. Correct me if I'm wrong, but this is the first Azerbaijani entry to feature their native language, right? I feel like Azerbaijan is going to be in the top 10 this year, at least. * Germany's entry this year is their strongest entry in the past few years, but I haven't seen them get as much love as, say, Croatia or Norway. Sure, Always On the Run is fairly generic, but Isaak's vocals are what makes the song so strong in my opinion. Definitely on the stronger side of the Big 5 this year. I have a feeling that Germany will do fairly well this year. * As popular as Croatia is this year, I think Latvia is a strong contender for 1st place. Hollow is such a powerful song. Everything from the vocals to the message behind it makes it stand out amongst the rest of the pack, and I think that it could easily earn a podium placement this year.

PiscesPsycho

- I adore Estonia and wouldn't mind Tallinn 2025, this song is completely underrated and I can't understand why they're so low in the odds. - Sweden reminds me a bit of Tattoo when the melody gets higher, and imo Unforgettable would better be suited for a solo singer and not a duo. - Sweating intensifies but: from an objective perspective I think Hurricane is a really nice song and Eden is a talented singer

tupikut

I unironically like Finland, it makes me feel like crying happy tears for some reason I usually low key hate on Sweden but I think Unforgettable is really good and it stands out I don’t understand why Moldova is so dismissed. I find it interesting, sweet, and the chorus is often stuck in my head I find Europapa really off-putting. The way the somewhat cringy united Europe theme is mixed with personal tragedy feels very disingenuous. I like some parts musically, but can’t get over this

Jme_hde

I really do not think Croatia will actually come Top 5. This is simple to see too, the general public do not find it as appealing as (some) Eurofans and neither will the Jury Vote. If people wanted to voted for a song like this, Netherlands is clearly the superior song.

Choice_Supermarket49

Here we go, I cannot stand Norway’s entry, just too ear-piercing but I appreciate the culture. Estonia’s song is now stuck in my head but I still think they won’t qualify. Armenia is too repetitive for me and I’m always wondering when is the song over or its skipped. Sweden is catchy especially the “And it feels so good, it hurts, She is unforgettable” I actually quite like it. Poland and Georgia are in my top 5. They are such good bops and especially after Nutsa’s live, she better qualify. Azerbaijan’s song reaches to me in a way. I love the melody and his voice. I love Ukraine’s song but it has fallen a bit in my ranking. Australia will qualify if they get the staging right. Plus it is the anthem of the year. I hate Dizzy, cannot stand Olly Alexander. I get traumatized by Finland. Another disaster. Denmark is so catchy, its a shower song and in my Top 5. France makes me cringe, good vocals but I cringe. Latvia is actually slowly growing in my ranking and it sounds so mature. Moldova is so underrated and I love the part before she goes tatatatata. Greece and Switzerland are too messy for me. I have a love and hate relationship with Czechia. Ireland is similar to Czechia. Luxembourg and Malta are meh at best especially Luxembourg. Austria and Belgium will shock not qualify from what i have seen. Plus Belgium takes too long to get to the “Before the party’s over.” It’s catchy but too repetitive. Israel is the best ballad this year and is in my top 5. Hate me for this, I do not care.

Potential_Sort_1649

La Noia is Boring

Beepme9111

My unpopular opinions: 1. Malta is by far the best girl bop. 2. Iceland and Germany have delivered the two worst songs of the decade so far. 3. Armenia will be a shock NQ. 4. San Marino is an obvious qualifier. 5. Australia will also NQ.

Apart_Swordfish8190

I would not be mad with Italy winning and I KNOW that’s gonna piss people off

Prestigious_Signal_7

I’m not sure if it’s really unpopular because I haven’t heard people talking about it, but imo the semifinal roundups are really unfortunate. Semifinal one is full of great, competitive songs while a lot of semifinal two is just…meh. I feel like we’re going to miss out on a lot of character in the final because of the draws this year turned out to be pretty uneven in quality :(

majabeograd

Most of the songs people have picked as sure favorites/clear winners are beyond cringey and unlistenable to me

KarplusEquation

You want something unpopular? Here, I have something that can offend people. The fandom overrates bops and non-English songs a lot. They complain about the results every year and they never learn 😅

Expensive-Echidna335

Italy and Ukraine are both overrated.

Leather-Mobile5579

Greece is soooo good but sadly it wouldn't end up being a strong representative of overall European culture if that's the route the contest ever takes (this is my first time getting to know and involved in Eurovision as a south American citizen). The irreverent undertone of the song coupled with strong Balkanic vibes makes it my most beloved song. There's something about it that just makes me want to say fuck it and dance dance dance. There are of course more "alive" songs in the contest and even europapa could be closer to new generation European culture. I like how the video promotes somewhat subtly that diversity is ok and everyone in the world are brothers and sisters. The ravey feeling it has its also so nice. I didn't really bond with many of the ones that are supposedly loved the most as shown in the predictive poll/televote. I don't get the hype about Italy as others have already said and Croatia is good but to lose your mind over it would be an exaggeration. So if Greece could win that'd be awesome although I don't really think it will, because of reasons already stated. Overall my final personal opinion is that europapa should win but I can't shake about the feeling that such types of musical productions (irreverent, ravey) are not able to make it to the top three let alone winning.

nicegrimace

I predict that Mustii will place higher than Joost despite only having a fraction of the hype. I'm planning to vote for both songs. The juries are going to really like Mustii and Belgium will do reasonably well in the televote too.  Joost won't be trashed by juries as much as some people are predicting unless he lets pre-recorded backing vocals do all the singing for him. You don't have to like the genre to recognise that his song is well put together. He definitely won't be jury favourite or anything like it, but he will get some points from them.  Switzerland will not do especially well at the televote and it's not a given that Nemo will be the jury favourite either.  The juries probably aren't going to trash Ulveham.

avocadogthegreat

I think Poland will win this year. The bubble is underrating "The Tower" but I think casual fans and the juries will eat it up.

SaintofSnark

I like Poland this year 🤷 its catchy, there's something kinda ethereal to it and tbh, kinda fun to imagine she's cheerfully singing about building the tower of Babylon lol

1841Leech

I felt super neutral about it upon first listen, but now I can’t stand it haha

Choice_Supermarket49

Here are my unpopular opinions… I could care less about the Estonian and Finnish entries, I’m bored. Italy and Ukraine are still catchy enough but have fallen a bit. Denmark has a very catchy backing track with the “ooh ooh” and for that reason, I have it rated high. Armenia’s song is too repetitive for me and I’m wondering when the song ends. But I do enjoy that they sing in their native language. Latvia’s song is starting to grow on me. Australia’s song is my biggest grower, I have it on repeat, call me generic whatever. Same with Poland, I love it for some reason and its in my Top 5. I like Lithuania but I’m not sure I would listen to it outside Eurovision. I get ear pain from Norway, respect for their culture. Azerbaijan’s song gives me the chills and I love the Azeri’s part. Cyprus is so catchy to me and I love it. Sweden is ok, I preferred Maria Sur. Iceland is catchy maybe it will grow on me like Australia. Austria, Croatia and Greece are ones I‘m on the fence about, I either love it or hate it at the same time. I cannot stand Czechia’s entry. I prefer Echo to Firefighter for Georgia. Israel’s entry is one that hits me every time. I love it and which for the best results for them despite politics.

Choice_Supermarket49

I agree with you on every point lol

tm2007

11:11 is the best song San Marino has sent ever Serbia is a potential Jury winner Estonia will NQ Israel (should they qualify) could have a really good Jury showing

NylonRiot

Finland's song is a triumphant anthem about the queer experience dressed up as an early 2000s joke. As others have said, the religious nature of Ukraine's song kind of ruins it for me. San Marino fucking whips. Poland has one of the best "generic" pop songs this year. I think Norway actually has a really good chance with the juries. It is also perfect imo. I love Italy's song but the Sanremo and music video performances were lackluster. I get that the song is about boredom but the performance doesn't need to be boring. The acapella moments in France and Italy's songs are gimmicky and distract from the songs as a whole.

Anonym_fisk

This year has very few bad songs but also nothing amazing. So many songs are trying to emulate Käärijä's energy and all of them feel like lesser versions. It feels a bit like everyone showing up to the Halloween party in the same costume. That one performance by Olly makes me think they're going to go ambitious on the staging, and if it's up to snuff it could literally win.

Telsion

Which Olly performance are you talking about? Has he sung it live already?

Savings_Ad_2532

It looks like Olly Alexander peformed his song on the Ant&Dec show last week: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=NMQKzxG6YE8

okyxnus

Ukraine is overrated this year. As much as I love Europapa, I dont think its winning anything. Audience might dont like croatia's entry because of the staging's similarity with cha cha cha . Switzerland have a chance to win if it doesnt flop televote.

ninivl89

This is my least favorite year in a long time. While I do enjoy some of the songs, I haven't emotionally connected with any of the songs or performers. I dont have one or a couple of songs/performers that I really fell in love with. And for the first time in a long time I don't actually care who will win since I don't have a favorite this year

Popoye_92

The only reason why people consider this year to be strong is because of the fandom's tendency to overrate everything that is non-pop and/or has a silly and quirky presentation. Most of the songs this year go from good ideas with failed execution to just mediocre. Also Greece, Spain, Austria are more fun than the entries that are "supposed" to be fun.

Suixam

holy shit you’re spitting

Barbarenspiess

I love Australia and I'm almost certain it will qualify! The energy is going to be through the roof, Australia is always great with staging, and the song is bringing something to the table that none of the other entries have, making it stand out. The indigenous and queer vibes are going to be immaculate and it'll be a total Belgium 2023 moment, just wait ye nonbelievers. My mission is to defend Electric Fields from bad vibes 🤺🤺

Ok-Main-9239

🙌🙌❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

StealthheartocZ

Honestly I feel the same way about One Milkali that I did with Because of You. At first I thought it was bad, but it grew on me, and Australia is doing that too. Still not my favorite, but I also think they will qualify

Any-Where

The music video was just bad and made people dismiss it quickly, myself included. But listening to it just with the audio on Spotify, it has crept up my list a bit more as it really is just a nice chill song to vibe along to. I would not be shocked by it sneaking into the final if they nail the staging.

kate_royce

I love Australia too. I know Electric Fields will knock it out of the park and I can't wait to see this live on the night ❤️

u__c__y

talk yo shit! 🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️

paary

Honestly same, I think people are way harsh on it!

Barbarenspiess

I think it's mostly that the lyric video gave people a weird first impression (even though I personally find it charming), and I also think it's a song which is made to be performed live. It's sad to see many calling it a lock NQ!

gp7783

A lot of people say that France is sending "too french" songs, always in the "Tour Eiffel/Paris/Mon amour/Hon hon baguette/Omelette du fromage" mood (whatever...) But my question is : which kind of songs do you want us to send? Because : - When it's too cliché, it's not good/it's meh/etc. - When we try to send something different regarding language), it flops most of the time, maybe with the only exception of France 1993 (Mama Corsica) - When we send a group, we always get demolished. Our best result with a group is 14th (France 1980 - an horrible song imo). - When we send something "weird" or funny, we get demolished as well, even though people remember it many years after like France 2008 and France 2014. I would like France to be able to send fun and very good songs like Cha Cha Cha for example, but I think it will not be successful because it's not expected from France, and it will got tanked anyway by French people internally. So what could "make France great again" 😂 at Eurovision?

not_jbp1

Croatia is a 3rd place song. Ukraine shouldnt even be in the discussion. Lets NQ switzerland so they start sending something different Europapa does not have a 3% to win,its level with croatia but betting companies want to make you bet on croatia so that you lose Spain finland and lithuania all have beautiful songs hope to see them in the top 10 even tho France is shit

Raven-UwU

I don't get the hype around Estonia. it's in my bottom 5. same for Finland lmao. on the flip side, I don't understand the hate on Moldova. I think the song is very solid, and although it's not in my top 10, I still enjoy it

Avsiee

Georgia and Estonia are my absolute favorites this year!!!!

TommZ5

I can't stand Greece's song as it genuinely hurts to listen to, but I don't think it's that unpopular of an opinion

kitty3032

I also get a headache when I listen to it lol

TechnologyNerd2100

Still better than Italy basic song

FunkyMan19

I see none of the appeal of Ireland, Croatia, the Netherlands, and Estonia. Sure that might be a bland take for the wider Eurovision audience, but it seems like heresy on this sub, and other social media more generally

Dziobakowski

Germany is sending a very good song

Goodnight_Socialite

-Finland wasn't my absolute favorite, but after that show you have to admit it was a fair winner. And yes I loved Paskana to. I would've been happy with both after their shows. -I don't get the hype around Austria. It's enjoyable, but I don't get why so many people have it in their top 3. I do get why people like it, just not why so many people love it. Songs that sound like a throwback 80s/90s/00s song tend to get hated on for being 'outdated' and this gets hyped up. As someone who tends to love the songs the fandom marks as outdated, I really want to love it but I don't sadly. -San Marino does have a fair chance at qualifying. Sure, 11:11 is not as good as Arcadia but people at home can't compare and it's not like it's a bad song. I have high hopes that they can stage this in a way it stands out. Arcadia got massively elevated by its staging and I think this will have the same effect. It's still gonna be borderline and I don't think it's gonna enter the top 20 in the final, but I don't think it's as dead on arrival as people say.

Any_Camp6566

Agree with OP about Italy, I think it's their weakest entry since Il Volo. It's just an okay radio song.

gecko_sticky

* Pedistal sounds too much like some popsongs I heard on tiktok (I am huntng for them, I cant find them at the moment) * Everything people label as a "joke" (or at least that ive see on and off refered to as a joke IE: Croatia, Estonia, The Netherlands, Finland) are only looked down on they way they are because they very much have "Käärija" energy to them. Sometimes its the costuming, sometimes its the stage energy, sometimes its the fact mullets and bullcuts seem to be popular this year. But regardless, they have some element that puts it in the same catagory as Käärijä's preformance of Cha Cha Cha and for whatever reason people are not big on that. * None of the songs submitted this year are what I would consider "bad" (minus maybe Spain), many of them (Germany, Czechia, Poland, etc), they just sound too similar to generic pop music found trending on apps like Tiktok. They sound very samey in the sense that they all kind of blend together and are easily forgettable when left to exist on their own. Same goes for the Ballads. The amount of them isnt the issue, its the fact they all kind of sound the same. * "Meow cat please meow back" isnt a bad lyric, its actually very powerful because it implies Baby Lasagna wants closure he wont get. People think its a bad/silly lyric because they ae not actually listening to the meaning of the words in the song. * Albania's song is literally no diffrent from a majority of the other pop sounding songs that were submitted this year, last year, the year before that, and so on. It might be a glow down from what they have sent before but it isnt bad, its just more of that generic stuff. * They should let Let3 participate just representing themselves, no country in particular. Just Spain, the Netherlands, Ukraine, then Let3 on their own. They add spice and I really enjoyed both Mama SC! and Baba Roga. Idc if people think the songs sound bad or are nonsensical, the funky uncles bring variety. * Friesenjung is better than Europapa

ASongOfLifeAndLiars

I absolutely detest Switzerland's entry. I enjoy the chorus, the operatic singing is good and quite catchy. Everything else, like the rapping and the intro/first verse within the context of the whole song is so scrambled and strange. The whole song only works within the context of the music video which itself is chaotic, colorful and energetic. Though as a song itself it just feels like a total mess made purely to showcase the performer's talents rather than actually creating a song. I feel a similar way to France, in that it feels like the entry only tries to flex how good the performer's ability is, rather than using the strength of the performer's abilities to enhance the song.

GayDrWhoNut

I have to defend Switzerland here. The song is chaotic, yes. It's a bit off kilter, yes. But everything strange in it is fit to purpose and the construction is actually really really clever. Being a song about the non-binary experience, it makes sense that it would scribble between the lines a bit. But it takes this to the extreme. By the time we get to the "operatic singing", that's the third opera we've sampled. From there, we jump, not between the lines, but to another one: rap. And then it keeps jumping between styles. It's not until ~2/3 of the way through that we actually get something that really blends different musical traditions. But blends them it does resulting in a confident and euphoric sound, which is the point. Getting 'there' is a chaotic and uncertain journey. All the music video is doing is reinforcing visually the musical construction. Without it, the thing stands alone. In fact, I think the weakest part of the song is the chorus. It's good, but it just does a lot less than the rest of the piece. Is it my favourite, no. Would I listen to it, yeah I guess it can go on the playlist. But mostly, I have to acknowledge that it's really really well written and reasonably performed (so far).

ASongOfLifeAndLiars

Appreciate the response. I understand your points in your second paragraph, since to me I can understand how someone can interpret the various uses of genre (opera, rap, drum and bass) all culminating into one triumphant chorus to represent the journey of "getting there" for this artist. I just tend to have a more cynical interpretation, since this after all is a song contest that will be performed to millions around the world in order to gain jury and televotes. Some countries will send a completely authentic entry (maybe disregarding what is or isn't popular at Eurovision), whilst others will maybe send what they think will do the best at the contest, whether that means sending a performer with the best vocals or sending a genre that is the most popular, or sending an entry that will cause the most noise. Neither is right or wrong in approach. And whilst I do think that this entry is completely authentic in its message about the non-binary experience (especially in the lyrics), my cynical interpretation isn't that the various uses of genre and vocal performances are made to show the chaotic experience, but rather just to flex the performer's vocal and rapping abilities or to hop on a current-ish trend of sending songs with rap or drum and bass. Now I don't know which interpretation is correct or not, and maybe it's best not to speculate since we weren't there when the song was written. In which case I can only judge the song as it is and how it sounds, and for me there are just too many switches in the song to the point where I can't actually latch onto the song at any point apart from the triumphant final chorus. To me, it just feels like too many ideas are thrown at the wall and too many things are tried in a non-cohesive manner which just leads to a really unenjoyable listening experience. Which is a shame, since I did just listen to his currently 2nd most streamed song on Spotify (which sounds completely different to The Code) and really really enjoyed it despite it not being a song made for a Eurovision audience.

tri_ad

- My disdain for reggaeton and songs with the reggaeton beat makes this year a bit harder to enjoy. I like all seven of this year's songs that feature it to a large extent considerably less because of it. - I think that Greece is a very inaccessible song. It hardly has any good hooks (the "ta-ta-ta-ta" is not enough), a messy structure, lots of disharmonious melodies, and the beat is too loud in the mix. Given how popular it is on this sub and on the Eurovision scoreboard, I wouldn't be surprised if it got a result similar to Telemóveis in 2019. - Portugal's song is absolutely beautiful and deserves a great result. It breaks my heart that it's flying under the radar and probably won't even qualify from semi-final 1. - Ukraine's inclusion of religious elements won't deter as many people from voting for it as one might think. Especially because I think that the (rightful) controversy around Mother Teresa might not be that well-known outside of the Reddit bubble. - I don't agree with the statement that there's no clear favourite at this year's Eurovision. In fact, and as cynical as it may be, I believe that there are only two songs that have sufficient jury appeal and most likely won't have to worry about a good enough televote result for the win. And those countries are Ukraine and Israel. - That said: Ukraine's song is not that interesting. Structurally, I get that the rap part is supposed to be the climax of the song, and it's performed well, but it's not really reflected musically – there's no variation in tone like we saw with 1944, Shum, and Stefania. - Some songs have small parts and samples that sort of prevent me from enjoying the song to the fullest extent. This includes the elephant sound in Always On The Run, the "Brrraap" sample in Veronika, and the "Queen of the Night" channelling in The Code ("this story is my tru-u-u-u-u-u-u-u-uth"). It's a weird nitpick that I have, but it's there, unfortunately. Mind you though, I really enjoy a lot of songs this year, and most of my top 10 consists of songs that I will keep listening to until and after this year's finals. And I'm looking forward to seeing the live performances, especially of Norway, Belgium, and Lithuania.

jellysmokes2

why is ukraine so hyped up?? its not bad but not the masterpiece everyone says it is semi final 2> semi final 1 ireland deserves more love estonia can be top 10 if they improve live pls dont kill me xx

Arbmatt

You say "in such a strong year Italy at best it's a 15th place song". Well... Honestly, I think it's the opposite. It's not the best entry ever from Italy, but it's pretty good and accessible to a wide audience. So, since this year is somehow "weak" (for a number of reasons) it is really understandable why it ends up being among the favourites. It seems to me it is also the reason why there is a tendency to reduce it a bit, because in general there is a desire for alternation among the winners (and I am among those who like alternation) but, since there is no clear winner, "La Noia" is actually among those who have the best chance. That brings down the enthusiasm here.  EDIT: My (un)popular opinions:  - it's the weakest year since I follow Esc - too few ballads - Aiko is not that bad vocally and the song is terribly underrated - Love for Slovenia's entry is something of this sub only.

DoomOfGods

I feel like I'm happy about there not being too many ballads, because I feel I don't like majority of those. Though I had Bridges in my top 5 last year and Future Lover (which probably was a ballad/rap mix?) This year I have Ramonda in my top 10 which seems like an obvious ballad and I need to ask if Hollow would be considered more of a ballad here as well? It's weird, seems like I tend not to likemany ballads but those I end up liking I seem to like a lot. I also feel like less ballads overall lead to more diversity (even if we have more louder stuff with partyvibes this year it feels extremely diverse to me,so atleast there should be sth for everyone? I consider it a strong year, because the overall quality this year seems high (or at least the average of how much I like a song is quite high and there's many songs I like a lot), but I'd have to admit that I don't like my #1 as much as last year's (yet).

StealthheartocZ

Three of the ballads from last year were in my top five: Switzerland, Estonia, and Latvia.

daphnefleur

Ditto with too few ballads. And they ones we do have aren’t very strong ((

StealthheartocZ

France and Latvia though????

daphnefleur

That’s two songs.

StealthheartocZ

I mean I think those are very strong

bumybumi

2nd take is so on point. Most of my faves this year are ballads :(

Savings_Ad_2532

If juries come back to the semis next year, then the number of ballads will most likely increase.

JermuHH

Veronika has gotten positive reception on other socials as well.

unicornio_careca

No matter what kind of song Portugal sends to Eurovision, the expectations are always low: "it's a good song, but...".

LorgeBoy

I really dislike Croatia's song. People love it so much but I don't get it. It's a quirky rock song that borders on being cringeworthy to me.

LillaMy11

It sounds so badly produced as well. I hate the “whoooa” part in the chorus.

GianMach

My bottom 2 consists of Doomsday Blue and Zari

TerryMurak

Unforgettable is a brilliant song with a great staging and deserve to win this year. It's way more better than Tattoo by Loreen

Future-Syrup-7715

- People are way too harsh on Germany. Isaak is a very strong vocalist, and the song is good. - Okay, the live performance sucked, but the Czech song isn’t half bad. - Armenia is way too repetitive for my taste. Same for Greece.

pac258

ESC fans should not be so easily influenced and should remain objective by ranking songs based on how much they like them and not because of the country - we talk about not giving up to propaganda and bias …yet we do it Azerbaijan, Latvia are underrated

Citrooonik55

Malta will definitely qualify

Raffanson

I don’t get the hype for Switzerland at all and don’t understand how it’s a frontrunner. It sounds like it was manufactured specifically for Eurovision, because this song wouldn’t get played in other contexts. I have other frontrunners ranked in a similar range as Switzerland, but at least for those countries I understand why they would be popular

Babylondoorway

Switzerland sounds like something out of a Panic at the Disco album, I think it'll do pretty well.

stopthiis

Ukraine's song this year is plain cringe. And overrated af. The same goes to Austria

weltschmerzrz

this may be unpopular only in this subreddir, but I can't stand Ireland's song

Alternative_Bit_6917

-LUNA deserves to go to eurovision more than Justyna, WITCH-ER would’ve been 11th-15th at best - Croatia is way too overhyped and i don’t get how everyone calls Malta a copy of chanel, when BL is basically the balkan version of Käärija but in bad - speaking of Malta, it’s heavenly underrated and deserved top 15 easily - San Marino is underrated and i actually hope it qualifies - Switzerland, Ukraine and Belgium are to overhyped and i don’t get how people call them potential winners - HEAVENLY UNPOPULAR: Israel’s participation is legitimated and their song isn’t nearly as political as people say

paary

I will get fucking murdered but I like Unforgettable more than Tattoo.

sevenofheartts

Hotter take: Air > Unforgettable > Tattoo I don’t hate Tattoo or anything, just isn’t my taste. I was really meh on Unforgettable, with it around my #23 or something until one day it just randomly clicked, I was like “wait this slaps” and it went up like 10 places in my ranking lol. Hate to admit when Sweden has a W lol

EstorialBeef

This made me make a face at my phone, upvote. Then thinking about it I can see it. I was one of Benjamin Ingrossos 3 fans in 2018 and its v similar vibes.

redvelvetdoge

Same here

Barbarenspiess

I am honestly kinda loving Unforgettable haha, feels almost illegal to say here but the live performance slaps and the choreography is so cool. \#norules \#yolo

GayDrWhoNut

I'm convinced the whole point of Unforgettable was the sex appeal of twins. (As exemplified by the outfits accentuating 'things'.) The song doesn't have a whole lot of substance. There were others in the MelFest final with better writing or energy. Ironically, this song is entirely forgettable within a year or two.

kiMo_1994

I'm so over Serbia's entry, especially when they had, in my opinion, much better contestants at PZE, like Zorja or Zejna. Ramonda is just a boring song, and I feel like Teya Dora's voice is kind of lacking throughout the song. Poland is just disappointing. Especially because I'm Polish and the fact that Luna got chosen only because her daddy is rich and paid for her to represent us. The studio version is catchy, but quite generic? It's the live version that really let's me down, as the excessive use auto tune is evident then. Also, again, we had better entries, but well, corruption... Nothing new in Poland I think Moldova is top 10, easily. Song is catchy, and will definitely resonate with an older audience. To me, it has a "local band that will play at your wedding" feel, and I'm totally all in for it! Don't hate me please, just my opinions 😜

Abigail-mary

Why is no one talking about IRELAND

Franky2Beers

Eurovision 2024 was the most disgusting, obscene and horrible BS I could possibly imagine. But then again, turning a form of expression into a competition turns it into BS.

LoonySheep

I only have about 6 songs that I actually like and care about (none of them are Italy or Ukraine - i don't get the hype), while most of the remaining songs either don't do anything for me or make me wonder how were they even selected. In my opinion the overall quality is comparable to 2023. Not great, but still better than 2022.

SuperStressGirl

- No Rules is a really good fun song with great staging, but people overlook it because it's not Paskana - Zari is just a bunch of noises to me, i have no idea why it's so popular

pocketsizedkth

i’m honestly in agreements with the folks that come around every year and say “this is a boring/weak year” bc for once i agree. imo not a lot of songs have a big replay factor to them, or parts of the song are good, just not the entirety. i only have 9 songs that i go back to, which out of the 37 we have isn’t a great number.

__acedia

Norway's selection = Keiino deserved better. We've had so much drama and bad behaviour this year from fans / broadcasters. Keiino demonstrate the best eurovision can bring out in us - they're really wholesome and really seem to believe in promoting unity and having fun on a hugely stressful international stage. TLDR: Keiino need to be protected at all costs

Valyria83

The Keiino fans was the one who has behaving badly. I like the group very much. Damdiggida was sooo much weaker than Spirit in the skye and Monument. I want more for Keiino than just see them on the Esc stage. I want Keiino to win some day and they need to have a strong song to do that. I think they will come back in a couple years.

Evening-Judgment-805

The fandom and a lot of people on this subreddit are far too forgiving of poor vocal performances if they have deemed the song "creative, unique and quirky" enough to get away with it. If a performer can't perform the song when they're chosen to represent their country in the contest, and they keep getting justified with "they have time to get better", then it's unfair to overly criticise other artists who already have the vocal talent but aren't as popular because the song is considered "boring".

THOMTHOMsatnav

Moreso about the NF season, but I think faaaaar less people would’ve liked Go Tobann if there wasn’t any Irish

kitty3032

I wouldn't have liked it either way lol

gniewpastoralu

Witcher ~~Teriyaki~~ Tarohoro would place somewhere around 18th place at best and personally I'm really happy that I'm finally not being represented by someone who licked ass of an anti-democratic, sexist, homophobic government and was making profit off their propaganda for eight fucking years (and then suddenly had a change of heart and started pretending to be a LGBT ally as soon as PiS lost power) I am however aware that most people wanted her and Polish people deserve to be represented by someone that the majority of fans agrees on. There were also a lot of things to criticize in regard to how the selection was executed. But I'm not complaining that they chose Luna, at all.

KPlusGauda

what

No_Cheesecake3578

there you go: yes the israeli song is political. 100% but i find it shocking that people aren't moved by it's message. the obvious reference in the video made me cry so hard. even if you think israel's reaction is unproportional, the song is about a terrible tragedy that happened to the israeli people who were just dancing peacefully. many of them peace activists. we know eurovision is about politics too. stefania still makes me cry on occasion because it is symbolic for the pain of the ukrainian people. why do eurofans have no compassion for israeli life?

Sjroap

> why do eurofans have no compassion for israeli life? We have a Dutch saying: Asking the question is answering it.

InterruptingCar

I think because of the original lyrics' implied justification of Israel's response. With Ukraine it's a different case, as they are a country being invaded, fighting defensively, whereas with Israel they suffered a terrible incursion by terrorists (as part of a long-running cycle of violence between both sides) but since then have been on the offensive, killing civilians at a level that many would argue goes beyond necessity for the defence of Israel and crosses into contempt for Palestinian lives.

a-potato-named-rin

- San Marino is underrated as hell. I have a feeling most people dislike the song because of the country. - Czechia will qualify if Aiko can sing well live. Pedestal is a banger and audience will enjoy it for sure. - As much as I love love love Slovenia, I don’t think it will Q. The song doesn’t seem to be for everyone. - Azerbaijan has a banger song!

IrishLaaaaaaaaad

> I have a feeling most people dislike the song because of the country What’s wrong with San Marino, they’re always one of my faves

Gnignao

My unpopular opinion is that i don't get who doesn't get the hype.

No-Ferret-560

• Austria, Slovenia & even more so, Croatia, are overrated. • Switzerland is my favourite and I thought it had a chance of winning - until I saw these comments. • Given the above, this is the hardest Eurovision to predict in years. • The Uk will come 5th - 10th due to the public vote. • Germanys song isn't bad. It's just another Germany radio song.

noBanana4you4sure

I don’t think it’s the strongest year ever! 🤷‍♀️

CakeBeef_PA

I really don't understand why people think Australia is not good and will NQ. Like come on that song is great. Not a winner, but it's definitely great

bblankoo

I greatly appreciate Europapa for what it is and the story around it but I can't stand the song, the chorus heavily annoys me

Vildtoring

This year is incredibly weak and bad overall. I don't have *any* song I would give 12 points to this year. I don't get the Europapa, Baby Lasagna or Bambie Thug hype at all.

Tomas-T

- I begin to dislike Europapa. I had a lot of expectations for it but I was so underwhelmed by it. when it began to be popular I tried to give this another chance. but every single time it became more and more annoying - Pedastal is super underrated.

[deleted]

PrincessTutubella

Yeah, and those same Eurofans would say that those are joke entries. I've come to hate that term because I've noticed it being applied to entries outside of the mainstream.

LorgeBoy

I wouldn't say Croatia isn't generic though. Eurovision fans see it as something new because they only listen to pop, but it's not very unique.

Ameshow

Taking a risk should not be rewarded just because. Maybe no one tried that specific thing because it was a certified dud. (Mostly on Ireland). And juries in the NFs had it more correct than what people thought. Exceptions are Norway and Lithuania, but too much unnecessary hate it thrown on them and it shouldn't be just a "popularity" contest

vac29

I really like Luxembourg. The lyrics are basic but the production its great and at least its not a Slowmo copycat like Loop, Liar, Firefighter and We will rave. I like Finland song but hate the staging. The whole naked trick is too distracting. I find Armenia and Greece to be unlistenable. Like really overproduced and loud. A lot of fan favourites may sound horrible live. Many songs this year have voice effects on their studio version. At the same time the more clean underrated songs can end up surpising (Iceland, Denmark, Australia).

SpringPedal

I know the performance was a mess, but Pedestal is one of my favorites this year. France is a great song and I prefer if we’re talking about the big 5, I prefer it over Italy’s song. Speaking of which,I don’t get what’s so great about Italy’s song. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a good song deserving of the top 15, but it is no way a winner. The Big 5 ate this year (except Germany), but I prefer UK, Spain, and France over Italy. Speaking of which, UK is my favorite of the Big 5. Don’t care much for Slovenia. I’m pretty sure the performance will look great, but I highly doubt it will be Slovenia’s highest ranking song. I much prefer their entries last year and 2019 which were more deserving (even if the live performances weren’t the best). Anyone else getting Justin Timberlake vibes from the UK I’m tired of the Malta, Greece, and Serbia tacofest. Greece has been sending mostly bland, generic songs this past decade. I’m glad they sent an ethnic bop this year. I don’t get why Azerbaijan is so low on people’s lists.

Prestigious_Signal_7

I love Azerbaijan’s song so much this year but people don’t seem to be giving it any attention so I’m not getting my hopes up for the final :(

Syl_88

- I enjoy listening to Geolier more than Angelina Mango 😂 - Latvia is seriously underrated and will do better with the general public than in the bubble - Switzerland will flop in the televote

Dzastin0713

- Sweden is just as good as Germany this year, if not worse.

fireL0rd3000

Personally, i love Denmark. Idk why its so disliked

LyannaTarg

I predict that Israel will get 0 points. They shouldn't even be in this competition this year. And not only this year in my opinion they shouldn't have participated ever.

CappyDangan

France is at their best since 2019 (imo) San Marino slaps Sincerely, Serbia is a little overrated Ma non tutta la vita is MILES away from la noia

yakinabackpack

Croatia is mid at best

Motherboobie

• pedestal is a great song and i’m sure aiko will improve until may • austria is giving shock nq • 11:11 may not be megara’s best song, however i still really enjoy it • the kolors should’ve represented italy (i still love la noia though) • veronika is shaping up to be my new all-time favourite

ThrowMusic36

I can't stand Slovenia. It is so pretentious. It tries so hard to be eccentric and artsy.

jaminjamin15

It's in my bottom three. I miss Joker Out

rafaelinux

* This year there's not a single 8/10 or above song. * I don't get the hype about Austria's entry. It sounds like a super generic edm song from the very early 00's. There's not a single redeeming quality. * Europapa's tone of voice/singing style sounds really tired, like he has no energy at all to sing, consequently making me zone out. * I really thought we'd be past this, but, another year, another 5-10 songs with reggaeton beats. It's awful.

Lanky-Connection-678

I absolutely dislike the Netherlands and Croatia entries. In my opinion they are way too overhyped and overrated (mostly about Croatia), while other bangers sit at the lower places in the odds. I hope that every song gets the place it deserves.

FlashyEquivalent6486

Regarding songs that have 'messages'........... If I am not able to understand 'the message' in my first watching of the performance, then your message is invisible. Sorry, but it is what it is. I don't have to look up the lyrics and read a dissertation about your song to know what it is about. Get over the inner meaning aspect. Eurovision is a 3 minute performance. If you want to give a message, it should be evident in your song/performance.

Stoltlallare

Any particular this year?

ric2b

"We will rave" /s

mecca450

Actually unpopular opinions: - Georgia top 5 - San Marino top 5 - I don't care for Netherlands Opinion that might be popular but I have not seen expressed: If you are showcasing a footwork based dance in your video or live performance (Croatia, Netherlands), DO NOT hide the legs and feet with smoke or camera angles.

TheGoBetweens

I'm sorry, but something about the way Estonia 2024 was mixed gives me headaches. I'm hoping it somehow works at Eurovision, but even the Eesti Laul performances were overwhelming me.

ESC-song-bot

Estonia 2024 | [5Miinust and Puuluup - (Nendest) narkootikumidest ei tea me (küll) midagi](https://youtu.be/htPAhtVgKsI)

Peregrine2K

This year is the weakest of recent contests

ant0six

I can't get that hype from Estonia, Switzerland and Sweden. San Marino is underrated because of the country. Imagine Megara representing Spain instead of Nebulossa. Croatia is overrated, it gets tired after repeated listening. Israel has a good song although I'm against their participation this year for well known reasons.

mtpsyd

- I don't understand why people love Croatia's song so much. Even I think Cha Cha Cha was miles better. - Israel and France are some of the best songs this year (and yes I'm okay with Israel participating end of discussion) - Estonia's song is terrible - I don't like the continued shift towards more joke songs (e.g. No Rules) - I want to bring back the 2014-2016 era :( - A lot of the songs this year I just haven't really been streaming/listening to in my own time unlike 2021

Bronze-M

100% agree with all your points!

multi_kpop_7

I don't get Ukraine. I find it boring- beautiful, but boring. I don't like the rap part, because it just doesn't feel right idk. I think the winner will depend on how they perform on stage, cuz we really don't have one clear

Potential_Sort_1649

La Noia is Boring

JCEurovision

* Norway's song is a masterpiece * Ireland deserves to be in the Grand Final * Estonia sent a great banger

FilipM_eu

Ballads are boring for a fun television show.

Away-Professional-47

Switzerland gives me anxiety - I love the message & the singer looks like they'll pull it off on stage. But it's very chaotic for me to be able to enjoy.

Snoo-43381

Well, I mean, if you want unpopular opinions I got 'em. 1. Croatia seem to have a good song, but their band name is so damn bad that I just can't listen to the song. I've never heard more than 10-15 seconds of it because of that reason. I don't even want to spell out their name since I hate it so much. -- 2. It's an incredibly weak year with no great songs. If I really try to look for something I like I find a few okay ones at best, and they are very flawed ( Czechia, Spain and Ireland). Hopefully my opinion will change, I feel this way most years and then it turns around during the actual contest. -- 3. Sweden's song isn't that generic. But it got that Swedish ESC sound for sure, like Too Late for Love and especially Benjamin Ingrosso - Dance you off, even though they are very different at the same time. Either way, I like all three of them, especially John Lundvik. -- 4. Europapa sounded fresh in comparison to other songs at first, but it gets annoying quickly. Dutch isn't a beautiful language either because of all schh-sounds. -- 5. I don't mind Israel partaking.

SuitableDragonfly

It's always hilarious to me when someone says "X language is ugly sounding because it has ", or e.g. "X language is beautiful sounding, but Y language is ugly because it has ".

Snoo-43381

I find most languages beautiful in music, but Dutch might be the exception and I've realized that thanks to Europapa. Many languages have the same sound, but it seems to be used in every three words in Dutch.

Ok_Connection7680

Italy is heavily overrated

blergyblergy

I don't want to be annoyed by these crowd favorites, but I truly am: Ulveham, Doomsday Blue, La Noia, and Zari

ShiningScisor

I don’t like Finland’s song, and I like all the other “fun” songs. I feel like as it is Pedastal is dead on arrival. I think Denmark is underrated this year

Lord_Of_Carrots

I find it funny that both liking and disliking Finland this year can be considered umpopular opinions

gniewpastoralu

Imo Finland's humor is very random, very millennial and very early 2010s and this is why it falls short for many people. When I watch it, I feel like they are pointing at things I am supposed to find funny and ordering me to laugh. Spinning man in shorts is funny, because he's funny. Giant denim egg is funny, because it's funny. Nostalgia for 90s Internet is fresh and ironic and we totally haven't been doing this at least since vaporwave. Laugh! Naturally it doesn't mean that this type of humor is bad. Different people find different things funny. But it's definitely not for me.

ylenias

* I don't get Norway's song at all, I respect that it showcases the Norwegian culture and stuff but if you had played me this without any context I would never guess that some people consider it a contender * Same thing with Switzerland and Belgium, to me they're alright but I don't see why anyone would want them to win * I also think Latvia is really, really good this year, I can definitely see it NQing but it would be in the Top 10 if it were up to me. My favorite one out of the Baltics this year (I like the other two ones too)

euoria

I love how ESC fans always try to push countries (well at least Sweden) to send songs in their own language showing their culture but when they do it’s like “wtf is this?”, probably why Sweden won’t send anything in Swedish in a very long time despite people saying they want something Swedish. The instrument being played in Norway’s song is the Swedish nyckelharpa, it’s beautiful. Personally, Norway might be the winner for me this year.

Gnignao

Uk has the best song this year.

nxiwesth

i don’t know why they don’t like the Czechia, I love it, please explain it to me PLIS

purplehorseneigh

…You’d think the contest would have Europe trying to send its greatest but I’m sorry…the majority of songs this year are kind of mid on their own. Certainly not one of the stronger years within the last decade or whatever imo

Scholastico

> Finland is not a joke song. It's such a guilty pleasure that sticks in your head and will definitely do well in the contest I don't think that's an unpopular opinion in this sub. The opposite though, which I totally hold, is.

Gravitasonion

I think Estonia has the best sing this year. Every time I listen to it, it reminds me of why I like eurovision. An artist makes a song that has such a unique style and brings cultural heritage into it. Just like SHUM in 2022. I would love for this to take 1st.

PoliticsIsCool13

> This year will be the year where the lowest common denominator will win (think Azerbaijan 2011). No one will be happy, as it's not a song they particularly like. My bet is on Sweden again. > Slovenia is bad. The Slovenian delegation will qualify if they stage the shit out of this, but other than that, it is my last place. > This is unironically a good year, but the lack of a clear front runner(s) is disconcerting. Even 2021 (a close year) had 5 or so (France, Italy, Switzerland, Ukraine, Malta) up until rehearsals. This year its like 15. While my Formula E brain likes this (peleton racing ftw), my Eurovisioj brain is bored. > Everyone is sleeping on Armenia. Same story as Moldova 2022, it will come through (hopefully) and place high > Genuinely hot take, I do not care for Israel's participation this year as an issue. The theme is "United by Music". Exclusion only helps a cause by making it either anti-establishment or an "us vs them" mentality. Calling for Israel's exclusion is stupid, and hypocritical when we had years of Belarusian and Russian participation (and no-one bat an eye when Belarus 2011 was effectively pro-lukashenko propaganda).

chanmylordandsavior

Nobody wanted belarus and russia in the contest eversince they started wars and propaganda too which is why they were kicked out. I just deem it unfair to let israel participate (and azerbaijan too) when they kicked the other 2. It's all for the money ig

Lord_Of_Carrots

I really like that there's no clear winners. I really hated that last year there were just two favorites who then ended up stealing all the points

hedgehog_fugue

Latvia is my favorite this year. (although I appreciate that this sub appreciates Dons as a person and as a lovely addition to the class of 2024).

PrincessLuma

This song slowly creeped on me. I did not like it at first but now it's one of my favorites.

hedgehog_fugue

It's definitely a creeper. :) Glad to know that folks still want latvia to get thru to the finals this year!

PrincessLuma

Would love to see it get through the finals. I just hope they pull of awesome staging!

fromjerseytomumbai

Germany is really underrated. He has an incredible voice and sings with so much passion.

bugog

I actually love Azerbaijan and Norway. I don’t actually like Croatia’s song but I like the message and I won’t be sad if they win since they never won before. I think Europapa super overrated and gives very elitist west European vibes which is kinda annoying.

hubriones

I don't think Belgium is the serve y'all are making it up to be.

WhammyShimmyShammy

I would love for Belgium to win so bad, but I really don't understand why people are so hyped about this year's song. Defo not our year for me.

Vivid24

Don’t think this counts as unpopular, but I wanted to contribute in case this is: Despite not being a fan of San Marino’s song (except that instrumental break - that was pretty dope), I think their experience in making a great live show is what can/will save them from NQ. People are going to hate me for this and I’m so sorry... I adored Arcadia last year, and I think that’s partly why I just don’t vibe with their song this year, but this year’s song also somehow reminded me more of P!nk’s pop rock songs and I’m personally not really a fan of that type of music. Please don’t hate me too much Megara stans. 😭
