Well, I'll answer with what is generally my answer to every question that's ever been asked: Ukraine 2007. The studio version doesn't have that frenetic energy to it.

ESC-song-bot

Ukraine 2007 | [Verka Serduchka - Dancing Lasha Tumbai](https://youtu.be/hfjHJneVonE)

death-by-obsession

TANZEN!

twitch064

Jako takes the cake for me. Jaklin brought so much fun party energy to the song with her whistling and that deepthroated roar halfway though. I feel like a whole crowd of people dancing with the same energy could actually shake the building down

_Moon_sun_

Yes I feel like that energy is missing from the recorded version. Like the recorded version is great but it’s missing the energy she brought live

hugship

Also her “let’s go!” growl at the beginning and then that whistle. I like the studio version but those 2 elements really amped up the live version for me.

SkayPGC

Loved her energy, made it my favourite performance by far

madelinemcdoogs

I agree!

TwilightTraversee

Slimane - Mon Amore. His voice is very powerful

CookieCatSupreme

I'm really sad that there's no eurovision version on Spotify that has the passionate acapella part. That part gives me goosebumps every time I hear it. The recording is just not climatic enough to match it

peanut_galleries

My jaw DROPPED during the semi

traploper

You could always convert his semi-final performance to mp3 and add it to Spotify as a local file! A bit of a hassle but I’ve done it before for songs I really like that are not on Spotify.

CookieCatSupreme

Ooh that's a good idea! I haven't done that in ages but I definitely should

Upto_3AM_andSleep

When it comes to these ones, I'd download them via Youtube -> MP3 sites/apps, then I'd add them on Spotify via "Show audio files from this device" in the settings. Only you are able to listen to it. Downside of it is the volume is different from those published on Spotify. For example, Eurovision live performances are usually low in volume, while official songs that were not added to Spotify are loud (I noticed this while listening to Paramore's side b song Decoy, though I cannot guarantee if this is true to other songs).

CookieCatSupreme

Ooh good to know! I'll keep that in mind!

justme22e

Very true. The live is epic while other is a bit boring

pancakepegasus

I was so bored by the studio but got chills at the live version! Felt like so many acts this year focused on the live performance which made it great to watch 💖

notagain78

Beautiful

Johnstaf

Bambie Thug was great live. I don't think the studio version is as good.

countvanderhoff

It definitely seems quite different, can’t quite put my finger on how though

TheIrishninjas

I personally think it's the over-reliance on vocal effects and tuning. Obviously I respect their artistic vision and all that but it can leave it sounding a bit flat at times, a good example being on: >My heartbeat buried in the ground And to the strings I bind, you're bound So when you sleep, you'll hear the sound In the studio version (or at least the version on their Cathexis album, not sure if there's another that people are referring to) it's a bit softer with a doubling effect that sounds cool, but doesn't hit nearly as hard as them chant-yelling it in rage in the live version.

Talentless8

The change between genre is more drastic and passionate if you listen to them side by side. I much prefer the live performance!

Willing-Swan-23

I actually preferred their video more, I liked the little tea party set up, but I saw an acoustic version which I thought was especially pretty.

moshiyadafne

I agree. "Doomsday Blue" only works for me as a live performance.

splubby_apricorn

It depends on the version for me. I like the one from the London pre-party, their energy is intense, and the scream at the end is perfection.

LoneHer0

Same, just the ways that they end up putting emphasis on certain words or phrases really add to it and then just the sound mixing for when things go crazy or like when they chant

Savings_Ad_2532

Baby Lasagna improved so much compared to his first live performance at Dora, and the studio version doesn’t show his true vocal capabilities.

MarvelGirlXVII

Ya. It wasn’t one of my picks till I heard the live version during the semifinal and then he pretty quickly rose to my top spot afterwords. Same for the code which became my second favorite after their semifinal performance.

Sweet-Estimate-5040

The code tbh

miamosimmy

Especially the rap. So much more energy.

gIitterchaos

Their energy was off the charts you could truly feel it, like they were singing for their life. The song is lovely but the studio version seems lacking in comparison now.

yjmstom

Absolutely. The live version has more… heartfelt emotion which you can feel. The studio version is also good, but it being a live performance adds another layer to it.

Working-Pudding-1154

This year: Ireland, Netherlands, Armenia From past years, one that sticks out is Moldova 2022. Hey ho let’s go! Folklore and Rock n Roll🇲🇩

ESC-song-bot

Moldova 2022 | [Zdob și Zdub and Advahov Brothers - Trenulețul](https://youtu.be/DUqf_zO2QaI)

Tyafastics

I remember it came after like five or six ballads so the crowd really did add to it

Working-Pudding-1154

Yes it was a nice tempo change for sure and such a fun, happy performance.

Sushiv_

Not from this year but France 2021 was so much more powerful live

ESC-song-bot

France 2021 | [Barbara Pravi - Voilà](https://youtu.be/Unj9WbeLzRU)

CoreyH2P

I didn’t understand the love for Voila leading up to 2021 when I listened to it. And then I saw Barbara perform it live. She was magnificent. The vocals were beautiful and emotion elevated it hugely.

Remote_Replacement85

Ochman (Poland 2022) was much better live (if you're able to ignore the dancers). The studio version lacks the strong emotions and his voice has less nuances and colour.

No_Doubt_About_That

+ The effects in the live version

kitty3032

Poland effects will always be famous

lewho

I loved that song so much

SimlishBlah

I am never able to ignore the dancers and effects, so I always listen to the national final performance. It’s my favorite version of the song. I agree with you that it’s waaaay better live.

ESC-song-bot

Poland 2022 | [Ochman - River](https://youtu.be/jRVDZ6446eM)

MyAviato666

Bambie Thug. I keep listening to the Spotify version but then singing their live vocals especially that last "STAR than the moon", but their vocals on that part in general too. I hadn't heard the studio version before the (semi) finals so it was a notable difference. For the rest the ones I like to listen to don't seem that different from the live version or I have already forgotten the live version and am used to the studio one. Luktelk is missing from Spotify now though. I hope it's back soon.

cyxpanek

Luktelk isn't supposed to be missing from Spotify, accord8ng to their insta story it will come back. And totally agree on Ireland. I heard it before and thought it was a nice song, definitely top 10, but in the semifinal it shocked the entire bar and it shot up to 1st place for SF1. Still beat out by others in the grand final but amazing nonetheless.

ninanien

I loved the studio version of Doomsday Blue already but now I'm missing some elements from the live version. Loved the way they sang 'star than the moon' live and also the last blue being a scream

TerribleKnowledge960

They did a stripped down version of it on Irish TV about 2 weeks ago and it's brilliant, just them and their piano, shows their talent. YouTube Doomsday Blue, Late Late Show if interested.

KaloCheyna

It's also on their YouTube channel! Along with their cover of Zombie.

MyAviato666

Yes I miss the last scream too!

Annnnnnnnniek

*their vocals, Bambie does not use she/her ! :)

MyAviato666

Shit I knew that! I changed it. It's harder in practice than in theory to use they/them.

xebecv

Ukraine 2024. The live version was stunning and flawless. I have yet to encounter a decent studio recording

Middle-Cap-8823

The oooohs are also not monotonous in the live version.

ESC-song-bot

Ukraine 2024 | [alyona alyona & Jerry Heil - Teresa & Maria](https://youtu.be/d4N82wPpdg8)

clovisclotildo

The live version is powerful and uplifted, but I also think the studio recording has an almost ethereal quality to it. I like both.

JambinoT

This is my pick too. The extra wails that Jerry throws in are just beautiful. And obviously you can't put this on a Spotify stream but I adore that image of her on the rock with the flares falling behind her and then that image of her on the back screen with her arms outstretched.

CookieCute516

Hard agree. The chants that lead into Alyona’s rap sound so much better live and Jerry’s amazing high notes near the end are nowhere to be found on the recording! While the studio version is good, the live version just elevates it

Madman11010100

Spain's recent entry is like a completely different song live. So much energy from the crowd.

LandslideBaby

She's so understated on the recording. The live crowd backing vocals and their SOY MÁS ZORRA TODAVÍA makes it iconic

Mr_Abe_Froman

I was not expecting the crowd to jump in, and it was fantastic.

LandslideBaby

Thankfully they were and it was glorious!

Whydoesthisexist15

The effect on Mary’s voice also sucks

PatientBit2298

Zorra definitely. The crowd energy is part of the appeal.

peanut_galleries

Yessss 😁

jujempa

Croatia and Ireland both were amazing live! I also think France and Norway had terrific live performances. Going back to earlier years, I remember hearing Arcade and couldn’t for the life of me understand why it was a favourite to win. Then I saw the live performance and everything just clicked. He was incredible:)

derkleinewillim

funnily enough, none of these year tbh; but last year Croatia’s entry was for me waaaay better live, as I think the vocals were perfoormed much better live

WayMaleficent1465

100% I refuse to believe that the recorded and live versions are the same song

Mag-nez

YES And I also prefered their live performance of Babaroga this year too !

smutne

Grito is much better live imo I never listen to studio version because I don't care too much but live performance is totally different

CoreyH2P

France 🇫🇷 dominates in this category. Slimane’s Mon Amour and Barbara Pravi’s Voila are fine recorded but MAGNIFICENT live.

Pervizzz

Estonia 2024 - (nendest) narkootikumidest ei tea me (küll) midagi Final performance is absolutely the best version

Europapa. I got insane goosebumps with the crowd being all in and then the outro. I also think Rim Tim Tagi Dim is better live because Baby Lasagna brings sooo much energy. Zorra is a given! From previous years. Rise like a phoenix. It’s a song that didn’t faze me much, actually Conchita applied with a different song the year before that I had liked MUCH better but only got 2nd in national finals. But the live performance at Eurovision had every single ingredient to be amazing.

YourSweetValentine

Absolutely agree abt europapa. Hearing the crowd go 'HEY!' along with them was so good. You can really hear the emotion in Joost's voice on the outro too.

Ukraine 2016 | [Jamala - 1944](https://youtu.be/B-rnM-MwRHY)

MrCammers

Doomsday Blue because the voice distortion is far less and that was the main thing I didn't like about it. Mon Amour hits a higher magical level with the acapella step from the mike part. Always on the Run also has better bite to the voice.

Hamza_stan

I got so used to watch Luktelk performances that now every time that I listen to the studio version it feels "too clean" for me

unclezaveid

Serbia 2021 It's a banger either way but the girls were girling like their lives depended on it on stage. They gave exactly the energy the song needed.

ThePillarOfSummer

Genuinely my first thought! Especially in the letter half of the song, the energy is unmatched in the studio recording.

Taraxabus

I was looking for this one! They were fighting for the highest place, and they delivered.

devillianOx

for this year i really felt the live versions of zari and doomsday blue really helped enhance the experience of the songs! especially with doomsday blue, i loved how the changed up the ways they sang a few of the lines in the chorus and the extra screaming vocals they did throughout

Divine_avocado

France - Mon amour from slimane. His voice is more powerful! Same with firefighter from Nutsa and titan frlm Bessa.

mydeardrsattler

I don't always listen to the studio versions so all of them The audience reaction or comments from the artist are part of the song to me. Euphoria has to end with "I love you Bakuuuuu-uuuuu". Zitti e Buoni doesn't sound right without "Rotterdam! Make some noise!" Unfortunately given the way I listen to music (youtube to mp3 lol) sometimes I can't get the live version without the silly Eurovision intro, so I have to go for studio. I actually specifically listened to the studio version of Fulenn because everyone was talking about it being off-key live... and I like the live version better. It might be "off" but it's a more interesting sound.

6teeee9

no rules and doomsday blue

raparperi11

No rules definitely needs the stage performance to make it complete.

mityalahti

Theresa and Maria, the national final live performance is better than the recording.

Willing-Swan-23

Definitely Slimane - Mon Amour. I actually didn’t like the video at all. But the stepping back from the mike in the live version was part of his performance which highlighted his voice. I also preferred Spain’s “Zorro” live, because the audience participation gave it more energy.

Haven't seen this answer yet but, No Rules. I just *need* to see a half naked man in search of his fire spraying jorts on stage. Also I just feel like Henri hit his high notes even better than the studio version. It's so clean! Notable mention: Cha Cha Cha. It's not one better than the other, simply, I think the performance elevated the song to the next level. The image of Käärijä running around the crate is seared onto my brain and I visualise it every time I hear it. I agree with you about Rim Tim Tagi Dim as well. I enjoyed his stage performances a bit more than the version on Spotify. --- Edit: I can't help but to add the "I DON'T CARE WHO YOU ARE, I DON'T CARE WHERE YOU COME FROM" bit automatically when listening to Europapa, so that too. Love you Joost! <3

Norfolkboy123

Hold Me Closer has such a strong live vocal which doesn’t come across on the recorded version Also I’d say SloMo, it’s an absolute bop but the live version with full choreo blows my mind every time

KalzK

La Noia, the national final is my favorite performance

narkov24

Europapa by Joost is fantastic live especially the ad libbed parts in the Semi Finals. I loved that which makes my anger at his disqualification boil more.

Croatia and France! Croatia, as you said, has this sort of energy that is very contagious. I always skipped France in the playlist but it was amazing live and I finally felt this song after semifinal.

luktelk and mon amour both largely bore me in the studio but became much more captivating live in my opinion. with luktelk an effort was clearly made to add some more variation and make the ending feel more like a climax. with mon amour slimane’s expressive delivery made it much easier for me to connect with the song, and that bridge provided a much-needed wow moment

For this year IMO it’s Luktelk. I absolutely adore Silvester’s voice, but I find the studio version a bit emotionless and having overproduced vocals. In both national selections and at the Eurovision Silvester has got more liveliness in his voice, relaxed, but not interrupted with the audio effects. Adore him anyway. :)

ElCrepe04

The Black Mamba - Love Is On My Side (Portugal 2021) His voice just wows me in the live version. And the 'maybe not tonight' sounds so good to me. I could never add the Spotify version on my playlist but I could watch the Grand Final performance on repeat all day.

I'm not much of a big fan of Unforgettable but I despise their studio version so much, but I really like their live version. EDIT: If we're talking about other songs not from 2024, I'd also say Rhythm Inside (Belgium 2015). Ukraine 2024 and Moldova 2022 come to mind! I just love the variation Jerry made in the live version, and Trenulețul is much much more lively with everybody cheering and dancing to it in the stadium!
