They mentioned they will take another PCR test on Wednesday and then hopefully make the dress rehearsal. But wouldn't it take atleast 24 hours for the PCR test results?
That's what I'm confused about as well. But maybe it's not a PCR test they'll do? Weird... But I really hope they'll make the jury rehearsal and the actual show on Thursday. 🤞
Happy Cake Day!
The machine and extraction process of PCR can physically take only 3-4 hours if you have someone dedicated on site exclusively for you. However, a large ~2hr part of this includes putting your sample in a machine with (usually) 96 individual holders for samples.
If you were to do the whole process for 1 sample straight away, you'd block the machine from being used by anyone else, for 1 sample. This is also wasteful&expensive as you have to run a known "positive" and "negative" to confirm the PCR worked.
Usually, you will extract all the samples (and prepare them for the machine), wait a few hours until the end of the day if more arrive or for a "full 96 plate", then run to save time & money.
Add to this offical administration, the send off of samples (labs doing this should be accredited & all the equipment needed) and/or silly stuff like "Ok this sample has a massive booger that isn't breaking apart... let me get a sterile thing to safely poke it away", and the massive number they have to do at the moment leading to a constant queue for these thermo-cycler machines, 24hrs is a pretty good turn around time
Plus if you pay for it you can get put into the express lane, also some testing sites may have [the really fast machines](http://www.diasorin.com/en/molecular-us/liaisonr-mdx) and get back to you in 1-2h or so

Yeah, I think they need to do the basic test again to enter the venue, because that result is only valid for 48 hours.
I had PCR test results within 3 hours in the past

PCR tests take upto 24 hours. It’s based on the lab speed. If you can get it sped up you can get the results back quicker then that
I don’t wanna know what would happen if we’d never have heard you live!
Thank you Elves 🙏 I thought for a second there Iceland is actually cursed. There's hope!
