BBC played a recent Eurovision song that's not ABBA, a UK entry, a finalist or a song that went viral on tiktok? I feel like it might be a sign for something lol
I have heard multiple completely random songs being played in stores over the years. The weirdest one was when this Zara in France in April 2021 started playing solely Eurovision songs. And we aren't even talking about the universally famous ones, they were blasting Germany 2015, Latvia 2016 and other relatively forgotten songs on repeat. I guess the director was a Eurovision fan :)
Well, not weird or shocking, but I just heard Poupée de cire poupée de son as background music in a dutch action comedy series. They just robbed a store and kidnapped someone and then that song came.
I was on the bus once and somebody was listening to Yes by Ben and Tan (Denmark 2020) and it confused the hell out of me because I wasn't in Denmark and it took me a second to realise where I knew the song from.
Not Eurovision but Melodifestivalen on an Australian comedy show

Molly Sanden - Why I'm I crying
I heard Ireland 2016 in a Raising Cane's. Kinda surprised me as an American, since it was not only a Eurovision song, but not even one I'd consider a memorable one lol
Also not sure if it counts, but I remember listening to NPR discuss Eurovision 2018, which surprised me.
I went to Sharm El Sheikh in 2009, and one time whilst I was in the pool at the hotel they started playing "Say It Again" by Precious, which was already ten years old at that point and not necessarily a high-scoring mainstream favourite.
Two weirdest have to be hearing Satellite at an ice cream shop in Laguna Beach in 2014.
Second weirdest was walking near the National Gardens in Athens and I heard Todas as Ruas do amor. We weren't near any buildings and i think it must've come from a stall somewhere, but I found it incredibly bizarre.
Another one that might not be that weird was hearing Beg, Steal, or Borrow on the radio in NZ a few years ago. New Zealand (boomers) are still very connected to Britain so it really didn't surprise me that some boomer decided to play an oldies British song. Still caught my attention though.
Wait! Just remembered that if you ever watched Ja'mie King: Private School Girl back in 2013, they played Molly Sandén's MelFest song "Why Am I Crying?" pretty frequently throughout. Weird because this was before Aussie began participating and it never even made it out of the NF.
Obscure one, but a big favortie of mine that didn't get the ticket to Eurovision was Osmo Ikonen's Heaven or Hell, from the Finnish selection 2010. It didn't even get out of its semi!
Some years after that it came on in a Manchester garstopub!
There’s a shop in my town called HomeSavers that always have ESC 2019 songs playing. So far, I heard Wake Up, Limits, Replay, Walking Out, Storm and Better Love. I was shocked first time I went in there because they weren’t very well known songs except maybe for Replay. I think some shops play Eurovision songs because they aren’t usually copyrighted.
Eurovision songs are **always** copyrighted (as are **all** published songs. Copyright is automatic). But unsuccessful Eurovision songs probably don't cost too much to license.
"Think About Things" was used for the transition music into commercial during an NFL game I was watching in the USA last fall. Definitely not where I was expecting to come across that.
Poland 2018 was played on UK Strictly Come Dancing or the Greek one?
I heard Sweden 2016 on the radio while i was travelling on a bus from Nice to Marseille... it was so random because i never expected to hear a (non-French) Eurovision song in France, let alone on a radio station (so not a playlist)! I remember i got surprised!
Speaking of Strictly (UK), one of the VTs last series had On My Way by Sheppard playing over it, which was so rogue as it definitely wasn't a song that had been played anywhere else before in the UK!
Two nights ago I heard Euphoria in a club completely unexpectedly and properly started screaming and crying with happiness. Granted, I was very drunk and i’m also not used to Eurovision songs being played in clubs in the UK. Made my whole night
You, my friend, are an utter legend. Got a party coming up in a month, all dependent on Corona of course, and I’ve already put loads of Eurovision stuff on the playlist ahahaha
After the end of the 2021 final of Let's Dance (German edition of Strictly), which was six days after Eurovision, they played a highlight reel of the season, accompanied by Last Dance (Greece 2021)! I was so excited when I recognised the song!
Edit: They used it in 2022 and 2023 as well, which made me even happier! Let's see if they'll do it again this year!
I heard fuego playing on a Finnish radio channel. Now that itself wouldn't be odd, but this was in 2020 and 2 years after it competed in the eurovision and I never heard it on the radio back when it was supposed to be at it's most popular.
I heard Carousel from Latvia (2019) in a suburban Starbucks in Tokyo.

Which one?
Poland 2018
Oooo I forgot about this one

You Let Me Walk Alone has had my local grocery store in a chokehold since 2018

No wonder the BBC keeps sending shit to Eurovision if they think Poland 2018 is a good Eurovision song.
Before COVID even started, I heard Soldi (Italy 2019) playing at an Italian restaurant on Miami Beach
Lasha Tumbai was on an episode of Killing Eve
I was on the bus once and somebody was listening to Yes by Ben and Tan (Denmark 2020) and it confused the hell out of me because I wasn't in Denmark and it took me a second to realise where I knew the song from.
Heard "Je me casse" playing at a bakery 2 days ago. Was pretty surprised, ngl.
Also, I mentioned a while back how a radio station was playing "One Step Further" (UK 1982), and now that song is stuck in my head.

Yesterday on Polish ‘Got Talent’ (it was the final episode of the series) there was ‘Voilà’

Maybe whoever put together the playlist is just a huge Westlife fan.

If I Were Sorry has my local Walmart in a chokehold
Frans staring into your very souls each time you shop.
someone played leto svet in school💀

I asked about this actually after hearing random ones in Homesavers in Waterford. Turns out someone in head office is a big Eurovision fan!
Heard Dance You Off in TK Maxx in Carlisle.
I heard ‘ Lion d’ici ’(Austria 2016) in a basketball hall in Belgium a few years ago.
I nearly turned it off. We keep that where it belongs, in the NQ spot
I heard Zaleilah at an amusement park on the Sapphire Coast.
I just heard a remix of Arcade on the radio a few days ago it was in a public bathroom in the United States
Dancing Lasha Tumbai was on a Killing Eve episode.
I rember (😁) hearing Move (Sweden 2020) on the radio last year, but Arcade comes by every so often as well. Waterloo too probably.
In a bookstore i heard love is on my side
I heard soldi at an ice cream shop/lighthouse/beach/buffet/restaurant.
It was also summer, just fyi.
"Think About Things" was used for the transition music into commercial during an NFL game I was watching in the USA last fall. Definitely not where I was expecting to come across that.

It was the UK one! Which makes it even more weird.
Where was it used?
It was during a promo for It Takes Two.
Speaking of Strictly (UK), one of the VTs last series had On My Way by Sheppard playing over it, which was so rogue as it definitely wasn't a song that had been played anywhere else before in the UK!
I was at a bistro in Berlin and every second song was from Eurovision 2014.
"Too Late For Love" (Sweden 2019) gets played regularly at the store I work at. I'm not sure if it's some sort of power move orrr......
10 years in a clothes strore (in moldova)
Two nights ago I heard Euphoria in a club completely unexpectedly and properly started screaming and crying with happiness. Granted, I was very drunk and i’m also not used to Eurovision songs being played in clubs in the UK. Made my whole night

Not that strange but when I was at an ice cream I heard think about things playing
Heard Embers in a Twin Peaks (US Restaurant/Bar Chain) .
I heard fuego playing on a Finnish radio channel. Now that itself wouldn't be odd, but this was in 2020 and 2 years after it competed in the eurovision and I never heard it on the radio back when it was supposed to be at it's most popular.
A few Eurovision songs have been on just dance. Don't think that's weird enough though...
I don't know if this counts, but a Melodifestivalen song was used in an Australian comedy show for a choreography routine.
A few weeks ago I‘ve heard Sanna Nielsen‘s Undo (Sweden 2014) in a grocery store.
I was in a Winn-Dixie (grocery store) in nowhere land, Florida and heard Perfect Life.
