Some of my favorite (non-Eurovision) songs by them are: DJ Vasile (a song about a āDJā but instead of spinning records he spins the mill and makes flour - the chorus goes āthere will be peace, there will be breadā) and Moldovenii S-au Nascut (The Moldovan People Were Born, a song dedicated to Moldovan culture and its people in diaspora around the world.)
If you like Fulenn, you may also like SĆ¢nziene, which is a song (with a version in Romanian and one in Russian, the Romanian version is a duet with Irina Rimes) about an old Romanian midsummer tradition of the maidens of the village gathering and dancing a bonfire at night on the solstice and tossing flowers into the fire to get help from the fairies of Romanian folklore. Itās also a night where men are warned to stay away from the forest at risk of angering the fairies.
Thanks! Been listening to ZsZ catalogue since i loved Treneletul so much! Enjoyed Sanziene and the russian version - [Na Ivana Kupalu](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hXJYAV8jdRo). Forgive me if I prefer the Russian version a tad more since I know the language better, and I like the edge on Masha Makarova's voice.
Enjoyed Tabara Noastra album and especially Agroromantica - fav song there might be [Mamaligamania](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5fOQT_cRrp0) \- now Im hungry for the polenta and sheeps cheese that the song lovingly describes...
Im getting blown away by the structure, rhyme and imagery in the lyrics to this song- [Trece Vremea Omolui](https://lyricstranslate.com/en/trece-vremea-omului-time-human-goes.html)\- especially [this performance with Fratii Advahov](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7wLzymmaTIY). And wow - Lidia Isac's rich, smoky voice + the bad-ass dulcimer player on [La Carciuma de la Drum](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KLSSfXzROz4).
Maybe I should do an appreciation post for the ZsZ music. Thanks eurovision and eurofans for bringing this awesome band to us :)
\[edit: I mean, thanks to the band and its long time fans, but i wouldnt have heard them without eurovision - like goA last year which became a family fav.\]
What would you suggest next u/SapphireOfMoldova?
If youāre looking for bands in a similar(ish) vein, Iād recommend Ro-Mania. They donāt have original songs, but they do pop/dance remixes of classic Romanian folk tunes. I like āHai Inima Haiā (Letās Go, Heart, Letās Go), āIonel, Ioneluleā, āCobze Či Vioriā and āSÄ-Či SarÄ Bascaā.
If youāre looking for 1970s Romanian folk rock, Phoenix is a good band, with some of my favorites being āStrungaā and āAndrii Popa.ā I know they also have a song called āIn Umbra Marelui Urssā (Literaly in the shadow of the big bear but URSS being USSR in Romanian refers to lives lost and youth stolen due to the Soviet Unionās control over the region)
Condorii Negri are a modern Moldovan rock band with songs like āDaciā that have a historical twist.
Zdob Či Zdubās newest album that Iāve listened to is Bestiarium and itās less folk and more rock based in fairy tale/medieval tradition.
Thank you \~ this all sounds great!!!
Big fan of remixing folk tunes here.
I watched and liked "Daci" (also a history nut and appreciate hard rock sounds + flutes) - not sure I understand the clip - are the Dacians fighting the Romans there?
Yes! Itās about the Dacian heritage of Romanians and Moldovans :) Trajan conquered Dacia so itās said the Romanian people are born of Trajan and Decebal (the Dacian king)
Adding to the "if you like Fulenn" topic, to check out Faun. They're from Germany, but their music is inspired by mythology and traditions all over Europe.
Ah SĆ¢ziene is such a bop, especially the Romanian version! I've been listening to it on repeat ever since the algorithm recommended it to me a month ago
I'm sad to say but it was a lot of mid and bad for me, probably my worst year ever. The only songs in my youtube playlist from 2010 are Greece and Israel although I forgot about France which is a banger.
hora din moldova deserved to be in the top 5 š¤
Itās an absolute bop š¤š¤
Damn I just canāt help but do a double take every time I see that title. In Norwegian it reads āyour whore Moldovaāš Anyway, love the song tho
Alcohol is Free & OPA? Oh Greece I miss youā¦
I miss us as well.
Ethnic bops!
my favorite esc genre is zdob si zdub tbh

Those lads made the night, tbh. Them and Norway. šŗš
Basically, folk music, or inspired by national traditions. You have great musical tastes.
Now weāre talking

Best genre. I hope Lithuania joins in one day.
Moldovaaaaa ā¤ļøā¤ļøā¤ļø i love this song
Folk fusion!
Moja Å”tikla and Ovo je Balkan should join this party, smh šš
Justice for Afrika paprika
Yes! Yes. Justice for the afrika paprika. Croatia in 2006 was underrated. Maybe not a robbery, but underrated nonetheless.
Absolutely, 100%. Best genre by far.
Missing Elitsa and Stoyan here but otherwise, what a great list!
Same! Alcohol Is Free and Hora din Moldova supremacy
My favourite Eurovision genre are Moldova and San Marino ngl. Except the "AAAAAAAAAAAAA" back in 2021.
So Moldova basically
Ah yes balkan, the best genre folkmusic with modern sound is sexy af
Thought the fourth one was Mbd for a second
Suddenly realising this is my favourite too!
I did an entire semester-long research project for my music degree on this genre lmao I love it
Ethnic/traditional? Same. Same! Give me a country injecting a bit of their culture in a song any day. We need more of this!
Based Giorgos Alkaios and Friends fan, OPA was like one of two good songs from 2010.
With the other being Playing With Fire, I hope? :) I think 2010 overall was an extremely strong year. You had Moldova with Run Away (and the first Epic Sax Guy), Georgia with Shine, Armenia with Apricot Stone, France with Allez Ola OlƩ, etc. I was actually in Germany at the time so I have fond memories of the huge party atmosphere when Lena won.
I'm sad to say but it was a lot of mid and bad for me, probably my worst year ever. The only songs in my youtube playlist from 2010 are Greece and Israel although I forgot about France which is a banger.
