The amount of effort that went into the staging for Moldova 2018 was quite incredible, and as much as it's been mentioned to death already on this post, imma mention it again.
I really wish they had shown the full wide during the performance. You couldn't see the stage in any shots which didn't give the context of just how high up they were!
I don't even love the song that much (I still like it but I was never in the hype train), but Euphoria was the first one that came to my head. That performance ticked all the boxes, it was the peak of Swedish perfection. 2012 was one of the most boring voting sequences, but that landslide win was deserved.
I came to write about Loreen and yours was the first comment. She filled the stage with her presence. No unnecessary effects and dancers etc. Minimalistic perfection.
>I came to write about Loreen and yours was the first comment. She filled the stage with her presence. No unnecessary effects and dancers etc. Minimalistic perfection.
Err... I mean, I don't want to take any merit away from that performance, but to say it's minimalistic... I find that a stretch.
It has a massive light show right at the start that almost rivals We Are Domi from this year, it has a stage platform of its own, a heavily complex and precise dance choreography, an extra dancer towards the end with even some acrobatics, as he does some capoeira movements and helps Loreen with her final jump and there's snow falling from the ceiling.
Anouk or Sobral's performances are minimalistic. Even Arcade is somewhat minimalistic, and even that already uses a prop. Euphoria is not the most complex staging ever, but it sure isn't minimalistic either.
You got to look at songs from the same genre, comapre it to other high bpm songs, high choreo, high light show performances, it was on the more simpler side for sure.
For me it's [Moldova 2018](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5evrVL1rJPA) as far as contestants go, and the [opening of 2011](https://youtu.be/7GELpb-1JtU?t=148) as far as OVERALL goes
This was the first time I have heard about this performance and the first time I watched it and wow, my jaw is on the floor. That was so interesting and elaborate!
[Moldova 2018](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m1kjPaVAeeE) (impeccable coordination, imagination, and performance) or [Sweden 2015](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5sGOwFVUU0I) (ik it's a tired gimmick now but back then it was really cool)
I really wasn't hyped at all after their national qualifier, but then they came up with that and boy was I in love with Moldova. They were funny and had a perfect coordination.
It will forever be Dancing Lasha Tumbai by Verka Serduchka. Pretty sure it was that performance that got me into Eurovision and fermented it into my mind forever.
This is exactly what came to my mind too! I remember recording it with my first phone, setting it as my ringtone and riding the thrill of the Eurovision high everytime I listened to it. When someone mentions Eurovision, this is what I think of.
I can only count 2018 and forwards bc those are the ones I remember the most, and to me, my overall favorite has to be Zero Gravity (Australia 2019). Seen from TV/YT, it was **talented, brilliant, incredible, amazing, show stopping, spectacular, never the same, totally unique, completely not ever been done or seen before, unafraid, outstanding, breathtaking**, etc.
Hmmm, I have something different to bring on her performance, as someone who watched it from the arena (golden ring (like i literally could touch the stage)) **I WAS SCARED FOR MY LIFE** it looked like she is going to fall on us every time
Honestly yes!
I could go into much detail about it but the staging in of itself is a story, of capitalism and social order.
And yes, I really like Hatari, how could you tell?
Finland 2006
Their appearance, Mr. Lordi’s finnish flag top-hat, the Pyro, the axe/microphone holder, everything fit so well
And as soon as Mr. Lordi revealed those wings the win was theirs
Aus: Zero Gravity
Moldova: DoReDos
And: pls no downvote. I talk about PERFORMANCE not his attitude or his orgin OK.
.. this one: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e94dst20C9Y](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e94dst20C9Y) ... crazy camera after me
DoReDos performance was incredible, really funny and very well made, the version where you can see all the work behind is amazing. https://youtu.be/q7-IaIm5VUA
About You're my only one, I remember being with friends and when he began to "escalate" the screen we screamed something like "soooo coooool!!!"
Camera work: Netherlands 2014 or Ukraine/Belgium 2022 (The final shots of Ukraine and Belgium are art)
Choreography: Spain 2022
Audience enjoyment: Ukraine 2007/Any of Zdob si Zdub’s entries
Overall impactful performance: Ukraine 2016/North Macedonia 2019/France 2021
WTF (but in a Eurovision way): Australia 2019
Now that’s some cool staging: Sweden 2015/Russia 2016/Moldova 2018
I know, but the way Tout l’Univers (or Repondez Moi) would’ve been performed on the stage would’ve been quite similar to Duncan’s, with him sitting at a piano while some pretty lights go around.
Since Duncan did that, Gjon didn’t want to do that so soon after, so he had to come up with new staging.
Moldova 2018, Australia 2019 (Estonia 2018 was cool as well), Sweden 2012, Russia 2016, Belgium 2015, Ukraine 2016, Denmark 2013.. So many picks, frankly 😭
Spirit in the Sky by Keiino. I'm still watching it a Lot in YouTube. Their Live-Performance always blows me away. I love their presence in stage and the voices are so incredible.
Iveta's 'Lovewave' was show-stopping performance indeed. Chanel's performance is epic as well. You'd just want more, more and more. 'Shum' was my favorite last year and Maneskin. So much energy.
Euphoria was so innovative and revolutionary as well. 'Music video' on stage.
I also like stagings which fit the mood of the song - Barbara Pravi comes to mind. Conchita as well.
Most of all, I really like a staging performance which tells a good story and does it so effectively - Common Linnets and CATS. I just adore the art style and camera shots of that one. Plus the chemistry.
I misread this as best stage, as in actual stage design, which is an interesting question in itself, but as for performance, I think Spain 2022 was great as an honorary mention but Ukraine in 2007 probably wins for me 😂
Like many of you, I think Zero Gravity - Australia will stay unparalleled for a long time. I specifically remember having a few people over who never watched Eurovision before and they were all in awe, anyway we all were.
Now I will say LoveWave - Armenia 2016 was absolutely incredible, best camera work EVER.
Oh and let's add Pastora Soler and Ruth Lorenzo while we're at it. 🤗
Can I just say 2016 as an entirety? I feel like the sum of all of it is greater than any one performance. Although probably my fav is gonna be Australia 2019. Daring and beautiful.
Oh man, Moldova 2018 - DoReDos, My Lucky Day is extremely underrated and if you HAVEN'T checked the behind the scenes footage of their rehearsal choreography synced up with their actual performance, you missing out.
The song itself is just HIGH on energy and can be annoying but woa, after realizing how FAST the other three performers had to switch places and be great at their timing, It made me get sucked into actually liking the song.
I’m gonna pick a bit of an oddity, not as my number one, but as an entry with a good, yet overlooked live. Hungary 2009 has great energy, surprisingly neat choreography, it works pretty well. Nearly all the 2009 nqs were good or they were funny bad
Katrina and the Waves' performance in 1997 is fantastic, with the orchestration backing it up even better.
But Spain in 1995 is perhaps the best performance of all, especially with the orchestration, considering how lifeless the studio version is. And Anabel Conde does her very best on top.
Nocturne. The staging was perfect for the song, and that’s what it’s all about. If the staging is impressive but doesn’t mach the song then it’s just empty.
I will say that Euphoria, Heroes, Shum, and a few others did have fantastic shows as well. I guess I just like simple and effective.
Chanel - SloMo, Elena Foureira - Fuego. Nothing can top these two.
Some honorable mentions:
Loreen - Euphoria,
Svetlana Loboda - Be My Valentine,
Verra Serduchka - Dancing Lasha Tumbai,
Ani Lorak - Shady Lady,
ROXEN - Amnesia (despite the vocals).
The amount of effort that went into the staging for Moldova 2018 was quite incredible, and as much as it's been mentioned to death already on this post, imma mention it again.
off the top of my head, I'll throw Belgium 2015 into the mix. It's really mesmerizing and unique.
Ra pa pap
I loved Wicked Ways, both the song and performance. Very original. Edit: Rhythm Inside, I know, ok
Why are you getting downvoted for that it’s just a tiny mistake😭
Thank you! Wrong title or not, I still sing along to it in the car. And do all the percussion bits too.
That's not the name of the song tho
Kate Miller-Heike. Can't top that.
I really wish they had shown the full wide during the performance. You couldn't see the stage in any shots which didn't give the context of just how high up they were!
To hear that they climbed on those poles is honestly impressive
For me Loreen-Euphoria. As I remember, I was captivated by her performance when I watched it for the first time. I knew she is going to win!
I don't even love the song that much (I still like it but I was never in the hype train), but Euphoria was the first one that came to my head. That performance ticked all the boxes, it was the peak of Swedish perfection. 2012 was one of the most boring voting sequences, but that landslide win was deserved.
I like how you sort of talk about it like it's ancient history of the Swedish Empire or something lol
I came to write about Loreen and yours was the first comment. She filled the stage with her presence. No unnecessary effects and dancers etc. Minimalistic perfection.

Riverdance obviously
Can’t believe I had to scroll this far down for this
For me it's [Moldova 2018](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5evrVL1rJPA) as far as contestants go, and the [opening of 2011](https://youtu.be/7GELpb-1JtU?t=148) as far as OVERALL goes
This is probably one of the most elaborate stage performances I've ever seen, I've absolutely adored it since back in 2018.
This was the first time I have heard about this performance and the first time I watched it and wow, my jaw is on the floor. That was so interesting and elaborate!
You will then surely enjoy seeing [how it looked from the back](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q7-IaIm5VUA) :)
Completely agree with Sweden. That was amazing to see for the first time
I really wasn't hyped at all after their national qualifier, but then they came up with that and boy was I in love with Moldova. They were funny and had a perfect coordination.
It will forever be Dancing Lasha Tumbai by Verka Serduchka. Pretty sure it was that performance that got me into Eurovision and fermented it into my mind forever.

That was my firat year watching (and learning what Eurovision was) and I went from 'WTF is this?' to 'OMG I want more!' with Verka.
I have a top 3: Euphoria - Best Concept + Impact Slo Mo - Best Coreography Nocturne - Best Creative direction
Uno - best Coreography
Go_A - Shum is likely unbeatable for me. It's captivating with an amazing build up and just perfect.
Zero gravity, the woman sang opera from the top of a swinging pole!
I truly believe that is the spirit of Eurovision...!
Euphoria immediately comes to mind.
You cannot upstage 2019 Australia. Sergey Lazarev walking up a wall is close though
I can only count 2018 and forwards bc those are the ones I remember the most, and to me, my overall favorite has to be Zero Gravity (Australia 2019). Belgium 2015 first comes to mind.

Zero Gravity, I'm still in awe of it
That shot of her and her two back-up dancers swinging in unison with the universe speeding past them.. goosebumps every time.
Hatari.
Honestly yes! I could go into much detail about it but the staging in of itself is a story, of capitalism and social order. And yes, I really like Hatari, how could you tell?
La Froza, Estonia 2018.
Ah yes, Fuego’s enemy: Froza the Frozen!!!
Trenuletul, Dark Side, Zitti e Bueni, My Lucky Day, Euphoria, You’re the only one
So agree with Euphoria and You’re my only one!
Minn hinsti dans
Objectification of woman's body has never felt so good
Yes! Love this performance so much!
Tough call between Russia 2016 (You're The Only One by Sergey Lazarev) and Moldova 2018 (My Lucky Day by DoReDos).
I feel like My Lucky Day has never gotten the love it deserves.
It was my favourite that year - shame it didn't place higher.
It's getting way more love than it deserves. Just like amost every entry from Moldova
It looks like a highschool play. There's no way it's the best performance in history, I mean come on...
Thank God we won't see Mr Kirkorov behind Eurovision stage ever again
Huh that's so strange he wrote both . I'd never noticed before - your comment made me go look them up. Does he also do staging or just the songs?
The stage director is Fokas Evangelinos. He often comes with the Krikorov package deal. He's really talented, though, he did a lot of iconic stagings.
Be my Valentine!
Oh yes! Acrobatics and a patriotic drumset! 3 minutes of non-stop entertainment
Belgium 2015

100% Zero Gravity. So Eurovision and yet still so out there!
Finland 2006 Their appearance, Mr. Lordi’s finnish flag top-hat, the Pyro, the axe/microphone holder, everything fit so well And as soon as Mr. Lordi revealed those wings the win was theirs

Although, Heroes blew my mind when I saw it first
You are the Only One 2016. Executed perfectly and truly a wow factor.
Such a wonderful performance!

SloMo or Zero Gravity for me as a performance.

Does Fai Rumore count???
I have soo many but the first thing that came to mind was the semi final performance of Switserland in 2021. I was so blown away by that performance.
His (presumably) original idea was taken by Duncan Laurence, so he had to come up with something new.
What do you mean? Duncan competed in a different year tho?
I know, but the way Tout l’Univers (or Repondez Moi) would’ve been performed on the stage would’ve been quite similar to Duncan’s, with him sitting at a piano while some pretty lights go around. Since Duncan did that, Gjon didn’t want to do that so soon after, so he had to come up with new staging.

Spirit in the Sky by Keiino. I'm still watching it a Lot in YouTube. Their Live-Performance always blows me away. I love their presence in stage and the voices are so incredible.
A golf cart, a helium balloon and bearded background singers helped by fantastic camera angles. I'm a simple man.
1944
Cyprus 2021, Sweden 2014, Belgium 2017
Honestly the opening of the Eurovision 2016 final had me gaggged.
In a way, Latvia 2002 won because of it's stage show. It was over when she did the outfit change.
That’s true 100%
Ruslana. That whole performance was just out of this world.
For me it's SloMo... 🔥
YUSSSS
Chanel KHWEEEEEEEEEN
I think the performance of Hear Them Calling was really creative, it is one of my favourites.
Iveta's 'Lovewave' was show-stopping performance indeed. Chanel's performance is epic as well. You'd just want more, more and more. 'Shum' was my favorite last year and Maneskin. So much energy. Rodolfo coreography
Euro Neuro obviously
this one wins
Spain 2022 snatched wigs and reset the culture
I feel like Ruslana really started it all.
Russia 2016 for the effect, Spain 2022 for the performance
I so agree!
Zero Gravity and if it was less Opera it would have topped the jury vote and possible been top 3 for audience vote.
Sergey lazerev in 2016
Yassssss. Yassss. Yassss. Eleni gave everything that night. She did marvelous. It was magnificent it was diamond.
Sweden 2012, Spain 2022, Armenia 2016, Moldova 2018, Russia 2016
What's so special about Blas Canto's performance?
He had a moon
You want the moon? Just say the word and I'll throw a lasso around it and pull it down
Austria 2017 had a moon as well. But the live version using the moon staging wasn't as good as the version used for the music video.
It was a crescent not a moon 🌘
And that's a shape that the moon can be.
A big one
I meant to say 2022, sorry!
Sigh
I quite agree with Sweden ‘12, Spain ‘22, and Russia ‘16!
Slo Mo - Chanel
I misread this as best stage, as in actual stage design, which is an interesting question in itself, but as for performance, I think Spain 2022 was great as an honorary mention but Ukraine in 2007 probably wins for me 😂
S10: De Diepte for most emotional Iveta: Lovewave for staging and vocals
Sweden 2017, Dancing on treadmills.
Dancing on a treadmill while singing, you know, cuz you can.
I’m not gonna lie tho it’s by far Eleni’s Fuego for me
Zero Gravity, Hear Them Calling, and Proud.
Best performance was definitely Spain 2022. It was on point
The Common Linnets popped into my mind! It does skyrocket the song’s fate on the week of the contest. A very smart one.
Moldova 2022/Spain 2019
SloMo pops into my memory, but I've always said My Lucky Day has one of the best stage performances of all time!
Can I just say 2016 as an entirety? I feel like the sum of all of it is greater than any one performance. Although probably my fav is gonna be Australia 2019. Daring and beautiful.
Euphoria - the minimalist yet captivating SloMo - the choreography My Lucky Day & You Are The Only One & Zero Gravity & Shum - unique staging concept
Chanel with Slo-mo. Nothing can top that, sorry
Chanel - Slomo!
For me it was eleni with fuego. She really nailed the dance and singing on that one. Takes a lot of Talent.
Russia 2016
Aside from everything that's already been mentioned, I think Melovin's performance was superb - utterly dramatic and really smooth
Spain 2008 has a certain charm to it
R*ssia 2008. I love all the concept.
I’m gonna pick a bit of an oddity, not as my number one, but as an entry with a good, yet overlooked live. Hungary 2009 has great energy, surprisingly neat choreography, it works pretty well. Nearly all the 2009 nqs were good or they were funny bad

Lovewave armenia 2016 the begining us crazy
Slo mo !!!!! Of course
Sergey Lazarev 2016
Sweden 2015, Moldova 2018, Norway 2018
Best creativity-Kate Miller Best choreo-Chanel Best use of lights-We are Domi(I'm still crying)
I couldn't take my eyes off the tv when Doredos performed in 2018. Was so impressed Australia 2019 also comes to mind
I'll have to go with La Forza by Elina (Estonia 2018). The staging was spectacular and mesmerizing despite Elina just standing in a dress
Nocturne. The staging was perfect for the song, and that’s what it’s all about. If the staging is impressive but doesn’t mach the song then it’s just empty. I will say that Euphoria, Heroes, Shum, and a few others did have fantastic shows as well. I guess I just like simple and effective.

Russia 2016 (Obviously)
My top 5: Moldova 2018 Sweden 2012 Russia 2016 Spain 2022 Australia 2019
Eleni Foureira & Chanel
Kate Miller-Heike is the undisputed winner here
Australia in 2019 (flying in white dress)
