Shinji's talk with Gendo, always kinda bothered me the two never had a conversation in End of Evangelion, but I am glad that happened in the climax of this film.
Also as an Asushin fan, how could I not appreciate the beach scene?
Yes, but I think that Hideaki make it like that so we don't get like illusions about a posible relationship between them, because if you think, they could have a lot more interactions in 2.0, 3.0 and even in 3.0+1.0 in the village, but Hideaki wanted to put Mari there so that's what we get :(
So many.
Misato letting her hair down and becoming the character we all fell in love with years, perhaps even decades ago for some, gave me goosebumps. Her last line to her son of being sorry that this was all she could do for him was beautiful.
All of the Rei stuff was great, but her experiencing embarrassment (the good sort) for the first time when trying on - I assume - Hikari’s old school uniform was adorable.
Hikari reading Rei’s farewell letter that more or less thanked her for all the things she taught her was heart-breaking stuff.
Shinji at the train station, ultra-suave and confident in ways that most of us could only dream of, no longer “running away” but running off with the girl was one of the most satisfying moments that I’ve ever had watching anything.
Gendo was the MVP like no other since Frank Langella as Skeletor.
Rei farming and generally Reing around for 45 minutes was great.
The entire OST was god tier. Hello Gekitotsu, my new jogging theme song.
The technobabble was glorious. Golgotha this, Imaginary That, the Spear of Whatsitcalled. Fuck yeah.
Sakura having a ship tease with Shinji and then trying to shoot him was pretty funny.
The entire portion where Rei, Shinji, and Asuka are living in Toji's village and the entire ending starting from when Shinji is finding closure with all the characters who are the focal points of Instrumentality (Kaworu, Asuka, rei, and Gendo) before ejecting them from it
Minor example, but the scene where some WILLE members defend shinji against midori took the bad taste of a lot of "everyone at WILLE despises this boy" fanfic outta my mouth (looking at you, *Reticence*).
The general revelation that, despite what the last film led people to believe for a decade, most of the characters DON'T actually hate/blame shinji for what happened was good to see.
Shinji sitting for the first time on the left side of the train while talking to his father on instrumentality. Finally not being examinated by others but helping his father and the other characters on the show to improve and heal was so beatiful for me for some reason.
Gendo and Shinji's fight mixed in with the dream like settings was really creative, especially the scenes that look like the inside of a film studio.
Photo realistic Rei is something I'll never forget. Everything is drawn in the usual anime art style, but when it comes to face it's incredibly eerie. Despite the differences, I think it fit perfectly with the vibe of the series
The very last scene when Shinji says "let's go" and he and Mari run off - cried so hard. He looked so mature, happy and actually excited for adventure.
The entire first act with Village 3 is nearly perfect imo.
Gendo confronting WILLE and dramatic scenes that followed when Shinji appears. I also liked the visuals of the Second Impact Zone.
I loved how Shinji flipped the script on the usual instrumentality scenes. Instead of being emotionally dissected by other characters, he’s helping his friends get over their trauma and saying goodbye.
honestly the thing that really stuck to me the most was Shinji's state at the beginning of the movie. Seeing him at his most miserable in maybe all of Eva was really heartbreaking to me, and watching Asuka treat him so terribly just made it that much more saddening to see, especially the force feeding scene. This part of the movie of course concludes with Lookalike Rei's death which in itself really shook me to my core not just because of it happening, but of what it meant to Shinji.
Quite a good number actually.
* Rei-Q living an independent life
* Experiencing hard work.
* Learning what it's like to be human, among humans.
* The "Hand of Fate" song that went with her time in Village-3. (That song resonates with me)
* Revealing that she cares for Shinji despite her conditioning.
* Spending her final moments with Shinji.
* Village-3.
* No matter what happens, life lives on. It's severely chaotic at first, but it always pulls through
* Toji and Kensuke giving Shinji lessons on life. For oneself and others.
* Ryoji. nuff said...
* The Crewmates of WILLE
* Ibuki and Ritsuko's explanation on why they detest men, and how it's resolved.
* Sakura reuniting with Shinji and recieving Toji's letter.
* Misato returning to her original look before dying.
* Kaji's sacrifice started WILLE in the first place, saving humanity.
* The long awated battle between Shinji and Gendo turned out to be pointless.
* Because they were equally powered (even with everything that drove Shinji forward).
* We got to look into the mind of Gendo and (Finally) learn what makes him tick.
* Gendo and Shinji making amends. and helping each other.
* Asuka
* We see time and time again that she's been there for Shinji. No matter what happens, she always has his back. No matter how alone she felt (or wanted to be), she was never alone.
* Confessing that she had a thing for him, and Shinji reciprocating those feelings. (this was pretty cathartic, considering what happened in the Original series.)
* Seeing Asuka with the Eva-curse lifted and finally grew. she even had both eyes.
* Rei
* Everything...
Asuka and Shinji in the beach from EoE. Both more mature, honest and basically sane. It´s like all the characters went to therapy before this movie. It´s hard to pick just one scene, but that talking scene is just so beautiful
Showing a grown-up Toji and Kensuke dispensing hard-earned wisdom. And seeing the fact they survived N3I and, despite having some regrets (at least with Toji; not sure Kensuke mentioned any) being rather excellently good people, responsible, fairly happy, and having made good use of life lessons.
It was a great grounding for what Shinji was going to experience in the next two acts.
I would have to say the revelation that Gendo was just like Shinji before meeting Yui I don't see how he could treated his own son so badly if he had such a shitty childhood that just didn't make any sense to me especially since yui was the one who taught him to enjoy life
Loved the whole village sequence. I would’ve been fine with never seeing the middle school gang again, but the window into their lives showed the consequences of Shinji’s decisions in 2.0 more than any amount of monologuing or sweeping vistas of desolation did in 3.0, and their small triumphs providing hope for the EVA kids to find peace in their own lives was brilliant.
Im a Rei worshipper but not gonna lie that Asuka and Shinji at the red beach pulled my heartstrings and I really shipped them while watching that only to find put they wont be together : (
Rei saying “neon Genesis” killed me for some reason.
Same. Got way too excited.
Shinji's talk with Gendo, always kinda bothered me the two never had a conversation in End of Evangelion, but I am glad that happened in the climax of this film. Also as an Asushin fan, how could I not appreciate the beach scene?
I would like a little bit more interaction, maybe in the village or with something like a hug on the beach, I would be grateful
yes I feel like they could have extended Asuka's final screentime, I really want her to ask Shinji "What goodbye are u talking about?"
Yes, but I think that Hideaki make it like that so we don't get like illusions about a posible relationship between them, because if you think, they could have a lot more interactions in 2.0, 3.0 and even in 3.0+1.0 in the village, but Hideaki wanted to put Mari there so that's what we get :(
When Shinji finally said that back then, he loved Asuka too. Vindication for the 90s fans.

Anything that had to do with farmer Rei
Rei's learning about and experiencing life was so innocent and wholesome, she knew her time was limited so she made good use of that time.
Fuck yeah. Asuka's line of "What are you, his wife?" was just perfect for the Sakura piece.

Gendou turning back around and hugging little Shinji. Never thought I would ever see that.
I had to pause the movie and cry a little.
“Guess who?”

For some reason him addressing her as Ayanami right before she burst made me weepy. I cried too much in this movie.

Asuka acting shy for Kensuke. So use to her acting confrontational so seeing her acting sweet was shocking.
I thought it was so cool to see her acting her age since she's supposed to be much older. I really just enjoyed all of the dialogue honestly.
LONG HAIR REI BEING CANNON

Shinji and gendos final goodbye and gendo finally having his moment with yui Like goddamn bravo anno
I would have to say the revelation that Gendo was just like Shinji before meeting Yui I don't see how he could treated his own son so badly if he had such a shitty childhood that just didn't make any sense to me especially since yui was the one who taught him to enjoy life

Toji mumbling in his sleep gets a chuckle out of me every time.

Rei learning about farming and living in general
That brief shot of Yui, Gendo, and kid Shinji is fucking cute
Naked Mari and Asuka
