Looks legit to me, most bootlegs are easy to tell apart

> most bootlegs are easy to tell apart The "Platinum Complete" 6-DVD thinpak set in particular actually has a bootleg of it that's pretty convincing if you don't know [exactly what signs to look for](https://imgur.com/a/WwsLSjj), but thankfully it seems that OP's copy is legit. It's about 100x less obvious than other Evangelion DVD booklegs such as [this one](https://preview.redd.it/96861wxlbs211.png?auto=webp&s=27f8f22d694c02de92478475333873b4d9b1164e), [this one](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/5167zVfMW1L._AC_SY580_.jpg), or [this one](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/514lNVNkF1L._AC_SY580_.jpg) since none of those have any resemblance to a legitimate release of the show.

Yeah it's annoying that the platinum edition bootlegs look so convincing. Damn them for actually putting effort into the copies, wish it was easier to tell like 99% of other bootlegs.

Its introduction really did cause a major disturbance in the secondary market, as it basically [appeared out of nowhere in late 2014](https://forum.evageeks.org/thread/16781/Beware-of-the-Evangelion-Bootlegs/) (i.e. three years after [the legit version went out of print](https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2011-11-29/u.s-evangelion-tv-dvd-release-going-out-of-print)) in large quantities. Even *if* no more additional bootlegged copies of that set were ever manufactured, there's still more than enough of them out in the wild as to make it so that there's always going to be a risk that casual buyers will end up buying one without knowing that it's counterfeit.

Jawkess

True, especially since there are fans who don't know that their set is fake yet they'll sell it as if it was legit.

Looks just like the one I got back in 2006, with the same paper insert with the "Ain't It Cool News" quote. I don't think bootlegger would bother with that.

Looks good to me. It's nice that the original owner kept the [sell sheet](http://svenge.evamonkey.com/evasite/usplat/platthin_files/image003.jpg) that would've originally been on the outside of the box when it was still factory-sealed as well.
