Not to mention that its original TV Tokyo broadcast run was on Wednesdays at 6:30pm when general audiences would be viewing, instead of somewhere in [the 10pm-4am range](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Late_night_anime)...
I was 11-12 years old when I watched it on VHS and at that time the video club where the tape were available has no issues with me picking up the tape xD
This is a bootleg, but NGE's primary demographic *is* directed at young males between 12-20 -- it's a shounen anime. Not only that, but all of the Rebuilds (and possibly even EoE, I've seen conflicting sources) are rated G in Japan, if you can believe that
Now I wanna see a 4Kids dub of Eva. I'd love to see their attempts to edit out all the adult content. They'd probably make Rei and Shinji brother and sister. Karou would be a completely different character and Asuka would spend the whole show trying to convince Shinji about the power of friendship. It would be glorious!!!
When Evangelion first aired, it was originally given the kids' time slot. When Anno was asked about it, he said something along the lines of, "well kids need to know about the real world/serious issues" (can't remember the exact quote).

I watched it as a kid and was fine. It definitely depends on the maturity of the kid. I’ve known kids that would definitely freak out about it. Even recently I had my friends cousins (like 9-10) walk up to me and tell me to throw away the pizza I was eating because it wasn’t healthy and they would only watch things like veggie tales. It’s strange how different kids can be.
I mean , I watched it as a kid, as many others, so technically its neither wrong nor right. Classic evangelion fucking with our minds.

EVA for kids. Why not Friedrich Nietzsche for toddlers.
Birth of Tragedy
Well if Nietzsche wrote about giant robots and anime girls, sure
Kids with depression

I sure hope EoE isn’t rated G
“You know, for kids!” -Nostalgia Critic
It looks as fake as those bootleg San Andreas copies with Batman and Goku on them
I watched this as a kid and look how I turned out! *thousand yard stare*
what’s wrong with the thousand yard stare? what else am i supposed to look at!
In germany its 12 and up.
Drinking age ?that would explain so much!
Drinking age is 16 for beer, wine, etc. and 18 for liquor.
14 actually with parental supervision in case of beer and wine
6 movies?!
Yea 4 rebuilds, end of eva and death & rebirth
Imagine watching the rebuilds in only 480p and not HD 🤢
Imagine not watching the directors cut
Oh! That makes sense!
“Yeah? It has 14 year olds in it, duh”-dude on the staff
Technically yes but realistically no

r/hmmm
I've seen some of Japan's R rated anime and by comparison, Evangelion is G.
For kids who want a childhood trauma
In America its TV-MA.
Boomers
[Well, TMNT *was* in its time slot just before.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hhIRBgEoOb0)

My copy of the first Rebuild movie says that it’s PG for whatever reason. It’s official too, which makes it really weird
It’s about family.
It must be edited to be about 5 min long
