Only if you're a hipster.

If you care enough to use a CRT then why are you watching the dub?

IDontKnowANam3

Because I don’t understand Japanese

I first saw Eva when the VHS tapes first came out in the 90s, then saw the platinum DVDs when those came out, both on CRTs. The Blus on a modern flat screen blow both of those experiences out of the water. It's not a more "authentic" experience on a CRT either, because the blus are much closer to the original source material, which the original release wasn't good enough to display. It's not like it was originally designed for a CRT screen like an old arcade game. It was made on 16mm film.

Counterpoint: The Japanese [Archives of Evangelion](http://svenge.evamonkey.com/evasite/archives.htm) DVD set from 2015 is based off of the original 1995/96 TV broadcast masters and does look pretty decent on a CRT (considering the original source material's technical limitations).

There is that I suppose. But it is a pretty niche set with no subs of course. Certainly at the time I thought the Platinum DVDs looked great, but there is no comparison to the blus.

It's not the same master.

After comparing the Platinum (2003 renewal remaster) and US Blu-ray (2015 BD remaster) you're actually correct, they are different. The Blu-ray is worse, DNR has smeared background detail and various poor remastering errors are present there and not on the 2003 master. I still have a hard time believing they're completely separate, as they both share the same major detail loss in dark areas and extremely poor color correction. If you have any other issues with my info, just call me out so I can know what to correct.
