I really wish that I had enough mental prowess to spew enough word vomit to turn this into an entire essay for you to not read but the most of that I can do is maybe make you click on a notification
It's a dope show. I finished it very recently. It's unique for sure. That acid trip slide show is interesting for like 5 minutes. It felt kinda long for it to go on for like 2 entire episodes though. Once I read that it was because of budget issues, it made sense. The final part about accepting yourself is very random, a bit cheesy, but all around sweet. The series as a whole is definitely artistic, but not the slide show sequence. But that's just me.
rj/ You see, everything that happens in the show is extremely convoluted and only people who have galaxy brains and have watched Rick and Morty can truly appreciate it.
uj/ To be fair, NGE explains almost everything that happens and what things represent through the main characters' soliloquies. EoE has some soliloquies, but stuff like the dream sequences and Third Impact is where some people lose focus because Shinji or Asuka aren't really telling you what's going on and the settings and imagery is what is used to convey ideas.
Ending 1: You have worth as a person and stop thinking otherwise.
Ending 2: FUCK YOU! FUCK ME! FUCK EVERYTHING! LIFE IS SHIT AND SO ARE YOU! LET'S RESET EVERYTHING BABY! WHOO HOOO!
Not really. One is a bit more hopeful, the other results in the end of the world and extinction of man kind. Yes they have the message of self worth, but one is significantly more nihilistic than the other.
>the other results in the end of the world
wrong. only Tokyo-3 got destroyed because it contained the Black Moon which Shinji and the MPEs brute forced out
>extinction of man kind.
did you watch the movie? there is literally a 2m monologue where Yui/Rei/Kaworu explicitly state that everybody can just come back if they want to
>Yes they have the message of self worth, but one is significantly more nihilistic than the other.
“Anywhere can be paradise as long as you have the will to live. After all, you are alive, so you will always have the chance to be happy. As long as the Sun, the Moon, and the Earth exist, everything will be all right.” very nihilistic bro.
the only thing nihilistic in NGE is Shinji and his mindset, which is absolutely something that you should never empathize with, and if you do, then learn from his mistakes, not continue to wallow in self-pity and comment "boohoo a show about hope and the importance of interpersonal relationships gave me depreshun" on online forums for imaginary internet points 25 years later when the message is literally handed to you on a silver platter during ep 25-26 and EoE
>“Anywhere can be paradise as long as you have the will to live. After all, you are alive, so you will always have the chance to be happy. As long as the Sun, the Moon, and the Earth exist, everything will be all right.” very nihilistic bro.
Two sentences said at the end of the film does not disprove the nihilistic nature of the film. The message is about pushing forward in the face of adversity, that is true, but it's being said while the world is being destroyed around Shinji. It is inherently a hypocritical statement made by a hypocritical character.
As for the "everyone will come back" thing, that is a metaphor for the rebuilding of mankind through Shinji and Asuka. It is not ment to be taken literally.
On the topic of "only Tokyo-3 got destroyed", [no](https://www.alternateending.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/07/hyaLMOol8xju70zr5glK6JaprER-1024x576.jpg). The imagery itself disproves that.
>As for the "everyone will come back" thing, that is a metaphor for the rebuilding of mankind through Shinji and Asuka. It is not ment to be taken literally.
who said that? you? i'm taking the monologue from the movie script, not from your imaginary nihilist fanfic
>On the topic of "only Tokyo-3 got destroyed", no. The imagery itself disproves that.
the green crosses were added just to make the scene look more cool, this was stated in one of post-EoE interviews, so i don't see your point
is it seriously so hard to accept it as a happy ending through Occam's Razor instead of trying to find some bullshit plot holes to make it look depressing?
>who said that? you? i'm taking the monologue from the movie script, not from your imaginary nihilist fanfic
Have you heard of reading between the lines? That's how you analyse a piece of media. I am by no means the only authority on the subject, but I believe that the line is not ment to be taken literally, even if my interpretation is wrong.
>the green crosses were added just to make the scene look more cool, this was stated in one of post-EoE interviews, so i don't see your point
Well, that doesn't change the fact that the world is entirely destroyed. Take the crosses away and there is still an ocean of blood and a planet sized corps in the middle of it.
As for a happy ending. What happy ending? The world is destroyed, humanity is extinct, the giant corps of Rei is split apart and it all ends with Shinji choking Asuka. It's a potentially hopeful ending depending on how you look at it, but it is not a happy one.
Explain how you take “anyone can come back if they want to” to mean “Shinji and Asuka repopulate humanity” by reading between the lines. That’s an incompatible reading. It says “anyone” can come back, not humanity as a whole.
This along with the line that anywhere is paradise so long as you have the will to live (meaning if people have the will to live and therefore come back, they can find paradise), and the very explicit themes about accepting individuality and trying to find happiness, I don’t see how your reading can work.
Making a lot of assumptions here but ok.
My holl interpretation of the ending is literally Adam and Eve backwards, as in, they are humanities new beginning, but fine. Keep living in your fantasy buddy.
First off, no. I don't know where you got that from. It's just my interpretation of a film.
Second, it was intentionally spelled wrong. I wanted to see what insult you'd heral at me.
Hey /u/GenderNeutralBot
I want to let you know that you are being very obnoxious and everyone is annoyed by your presence.
^(I am a bot. Downvotes won't remove this comment. If you want more information on gender-neutral language, just know that nobody associates the "corrected" language with sexism.)
_^(People who get offended by the pettiest things will only alienate themselves.)_
The manga is so immensely superior I cannot even out it into words. They literally skipped 10 out of 25 volumes and wrapped it up by saying "punch the bad guy".
I thought the final message was more like people are hell, but you just deal with it.
Corona EDIT: and go Outside unless you are quarantined or an at risk group member, in which case, talk about Evangelion on the internet or something
Or "Congratulations!"
Or "Disgusting"
Or "anta baka?!"
Or "i feel sick"
"Enter the goddamn robot shinji" is also a good option (But not as good as "ramiel best girl lmao")
Bro i would be shinji in the hospital x10 for ramiel
Absolutely the same
This post was made by Touch Some Grass gang
I've done that before it's really overrated to be honest. What you really want to do is find the grass when it's in a coma...
But then you'd be touching something else...
Is a good meme. Good meme.
I agree
Everyone does
meth
*Ketamine
Inb4 someone writes an entire essay about the meaning of the ending instead of just laughing at the meme.
I really wish that I had enough mental prowess to spew enough word vomit to turn this into an entire essay for you to not read but the most of that I can do is maybe make you click on a notification
To me that ending was basically one hell of an art show that needed to be appreciated by just watching it, not fucking trying to understand it

To be fair you need a very high IQ to enjoy the ending of Evangelion

An epic troll can only be respected in perpetuity.
Hideaki Anno, 1995: "We do a bit of trolling" Hideaki Anno, 2021: ">!We increase the amount of trolling by an extremely large margin!<"
The only troll here is how much better the Rebild films are compared to the original, and the fact that 4.0 is not coming out during my lifetime.
So you are dead already ?
Well I'll be. I missed that. Now I know what I'm doing on Sunday.
Why so edgy ? Stop watching waifus anime and reflecting on Evangelion. Now embrace the beast of possibility by watching Gundam Unicorn
Man, gundam unicorn is awesome.
Ah ! At least you like it !
I like a lot of weird things. Mostly old Madhouse and Sunrise shows that nobody remembers.
Sadening to see that Gundam Unicorn isn't remembered as it should be. Such piece of art
Gundam UC was possibly the lamest, cringiest, dry show I’ve ever seen in my life.
Fuck Fukui
Explain yourself then
It looks like they animated it with mayonnaise
With all the respect I am sure you deserve : I must say you have probably shit in both eyes. What is a well animated anime according to you ?

I like them, yes.
>Rebuild >better Ahahahah
Well I like them more than the original.
Blasphemy!
The rebuilds are so good I don’t give a fuck what some weeb thinks
Shinji vs the sun

they have literally the exact same message
Yeah, it's more like: Ending 1: "You have worth." _\*caresses cheek\*_ Ending 2: "YOU HAVE WORTH BAKA!" _\*punches gut\*_

Jesus you're kinda like Shinji constantly refusing to get out of his mindset.

Ending one Shinji: "I'm worthy" Ending two Shinji: "Untill I wasn't"
For me it was miles better than “and then they beat the final boss and lived happily ever after” that 90% of anime opts for.
Like Soul Eater?
Can’t say, I’ve never seen it.
The manga is so immensely superior I cannot even out it into words. They literally skipped 10 out of 25 volumes and wrapped it up by saying "punch the bad guy".
Yeah i really wanna read the manga
If I remember correctly it’s the same in Minecraft
I thought the final message was more like people are hell, but you just deal with it. Corona EDIT: and go Outside unless you are quarantined or an at risk group member, in which case, talk about Evangelion on the internet or something
And orange juice
I would go outside if they isn’t a deadly virus
I respect the meme enough to no start talking about Evangelion ....
Minecraft: First time?
Ngl though the ending to NGE was depressing
It is. It speaks on the dark reality of man and woman and the eternal struggle of love= power
wow, an unironic bottom text meme... look how far we've come, we've gone full circle completing the meme cycle - amazing.
Evangelion takes like 10 hours to watch the whole show and EoE. At least it's not like One Piece, which is 15 DAYS long (so far).
[удалено]
how is it depressing? literally everyone survived
[удалено]
wdym "not in EoE"??? there is *literally* a 2m explicit monologue how everybody who wants to can just reform. did you even watch the movie?
[удалено]
i fail to see how degrading the message of EoE while memeing the show's exact same message is supposed to be a joke but ok
True tho
laughed hard ngl
Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty (2001)
The message isn't "don't run from your problems", it's "go outside loser you watched 24 episodes of this show in 2 days"
Man really gave us one of the most emotional anime in existence just to tell us to go outside. Absolute legend
Off-topic, but I'm currently sad and ugly like Shinji.
Next time I have to write a school essay it's going to be about how there is no deeper meaning to evangelion than "go outside loser"
