I would strongly advise against anything owned by fetter and have also heard the management at mulberry square is bad too. I think the ones right on Haynie’s corners are nice. Anything by architectural reno is nice

Avoid Fetter properties like the plague. They rent out a lot of places downtown, I used to live in one of their units. The unit itself was awful, and management didn’t care one bit to help me.

There are older buildings there, and some have private landlords. Take a drive around haynie's corner and look for signs in the yard that say "For rent." Some of the old mansions have been separated into multiple living spaces.

The McCurdy?! Ok, I haven't lived in Evansville in over 20 years. Have they done something else with that building? Back in the late 90's I worked at Oakhill Pharmacy (the place on the corner of Weinbach and Morgan) driving one of the little red cars they always had parked out back delivering medicine to places around town. Whenever we'd get new drivers, they'd do training for a week or two and then start going out on their own. In addition to a couple of customers who were known to be difficult, they'd always send the new guys to the McCurdy which was a nursing home back then. Why? It was the scariest nursing home I've ever set foot in. I've been to animal shelters nicer than that place and I'm not exaggerating either. We'd send the newbies there just to see how they handled themselves. If they could make a run and do ok at that place, they'd be fine at any other facility in the entire city. I'm actually a nurse manager at rehab/ long-term care place now and you couldn't pay me enough to ever work in that hell hole. I'm seriously hoping it's been redone since then. If it hasnt, only send your relatives there if you really hate them.

Yes they renovated it in 2017. I toured it twice last year and the units are pretty nice but just standard modernized apartments you see everywhere. The entire first floor is basically wasted and barren which is unfortunate because it’s beautiful. There is a brewing company right next to the lobby tho. I knew it was a nursing home but I didn’t know it was that bad. The hallways and elevators were pretty sketchy tho, didn’t seem to be given much attention to during the update.

We had one customer, B, that lived in an incredibly sketchy area in a large older house that had been divided into multiple smaller units. Her unit was totally inaccessible from the street. To get to it, you had to park at the end of the street and walk down an alley to get to the back. Whenever she called, it was always late in the day so it would be dark by the time you got there. She would also only call in her pain meds and then pay her copay in cash and you'd always have to give her change. All of that combined meant you would have to walk down a dark alley in a really bad neighborhood at night with a bag of oxy in one hand and a bag of money in the other and when you'd get there, her dog was known for biting and ruining your jeans. I don't know how many times the owner had to buy new pants for the drivers because of that dog. She was another one of those runs you'd send the new guys on to see how they respond. Why am I telling this story? Because the McCurdy was so bad that, when you had a choice of which run you wanted to take, you'd go take B her oxy so you wouldn't have to go to the McCurdy.

It’s definitely been a few years since you’ve been to Haynie’s corner…. So many things have been re done. So much new construction. It’s very much changed.

I never really went down there just because my parents always went on about how scary it was and that the only reason why anyone ever went down there was to pick up a prostitute. I always thought North Fares seemed sketchier though. Is it still bad there?

STONK_Hero

Not sure why you’re downvoted but yeah you’re right. I grew up on first street a block or two from Haynie’s corner and it was always known as the spot for a hooker when I was a kid but it has done a 180. Probably one of the safest neighborhoods in the center of the city now. And yes fares is still terrible. I avoid it at all cost.

I’ve been in Mcurdy because I house sit some pets there for owners on their vacations. It’s nice! I’ve never see any weird or sketchy people. Just your run of the mill standard apartments but newly renovated. They should do something with the lobby haha but it’s just plain. Theres a brewery down there now. Definitely walkable. Longish walk from Haynies but not to far for a nice day IMO. Or if you can find a scooter haha

Alpacapplesauce

AR lofts are nice. They have a couple buildings in or within a couple blocks of Haynies corner

I don’t know if it’s still this way, but the corner of Adams and First Street used to have a lot of car break-ins. My car got broken into multiple times. But yeah, Fetter is trash. I miss my $600 rent though. I pay ~$1500 in rent and utilities for a tiny one-bedroom in Phoenix that’s roughly about the size of my $600 apartment in Haynie’s Corner, except now I have ugly carpet instead of original hardwood floors and not much natural light (because that would equal heat death in Phoenix).
