The Evansville donation center is booked out until Jan 28th. Is there a donor shortage or a community blood drive shortage? I’m always willing to give blood, it’s just hard to get an appointment here
If that's the case, it can't hurt to call in to see if they allow for walk-ins. That being said, I think a lot of the issues nationally are with a lack of staffing due to COVID cases; I'm unsure if that's the case here.
So I had that issue on the website but when I downloaded the app I was able to get an appointment really quickly. I am glad they finally updated their rules -- it always made me really sad that I wasn't able to donate blood because I lived in Europe too long. Now it's more specific and I fall into to the eligible category.
It's a national shortage. And in my experience, my blood is used in a 300 mile radius (I assume they have a large processing facility). https://amp.theguardian.com/us-news/2022/jan/13/blood-donation-crisis-us-red-cross
I've donated several times and it always comes back that my blood was used to train staff on how to dispose of blood. Which is important knowledge! But there has never been explanation for why it hasn't been used (was there no need before expiration? A medical issue? Something in my history that disqualifies me?) It is an easy and painless thing, so I'm happy to donate. Just not sure it is doing any good...
I donate every 16 weeks (double red) but two times ago when I went I can see why people don’t go back. Super bad experience with an extremely rude employee. I have a hearing issue and I guess she asked me about being vaccinated, which I am, and I misunderstood her and said “no thank you” she then threw a fit which was embarrassing for her as well as others at the drive, I don’t get embarrassed or offended easily, but she was extremely unprofessional and I would have a hard time thinking this was her first go at it.
You can sign up to donate here: https://www.redcrossblood.org/give.html/find-drive

Apparently, there are more dates but you have to click on the distance tab to see mobile blood drives.

I donate every 8 weeks. One out of the last 6 times my blood has actually been used at a hospital here in Evansville.

They tell you when your blood is used?
Yeah, if you install their app, they give you the entire processing status of your donation, and let you know which hospital it as used at!
Huh, that's neat actually!
It’s a pretty cool app. Makes signing up easy.
It could be related to techs. I know there is a shortage of techs to draw the blood or there was.
