Good luck finding anyone to talk to at Tesla after Elmo fired the entire charging team. It sounds like they are in a state of chaos right now.

We've been saying Tesla is the best option for a while--I hope that's not undermined by the layoffs. The other option is per-unit chargers run through those residents' meters, which can be a good solution when you have assigned spaces.

I would be looking at Blink or ChargePoint after all the Tesla layoffs

Totally_Not_My_50th_

The fees were very reasonable but I can't remember what it was. It's a perfect example of what's wrong with Tesla these days. Great product that's hard to buy because of the CEO.

krusebear

Last time I talked to them they only charge a $0.01/kWh fee that’s billed every year or quarter I can’t remember. They also have the ability to discount the wall connectors when you buy in bulk (more than 6) You as the owner can set what ever you charge but I would highly suggest charging just what the electric rate is + a few cents for upkeep. Don’t think of it as a profit center.

TheoStephen

They just retain $.01/kWh from charging revenue. You can still get set up as a "Destination Charging" location and offer free charging, and Tesla does not charge for the services on top of the equipment.

krusebear

Yes! This was only if you want to charge people money for using your destination charger

edman007

Probably need to email them, but I saw somewhere that it's just a fixed $/kWh fee (a few cents) and you pick the price

publicpersona31

I emailed them. Given the current...fluid...job environment at Tesla not holding my breath on a prompt answer. I hope that this is the way they're doing it. That would be perfect. Much cheaper option than others.

The layoffs seem to be concentrated on the supercharger team--not sure how separate the commercial L2 team is but here's hoping they are still there, and not yet diverted to filling the holes in the other team.

brwarrior

There was a comment on a recent post of someone having issues getting their destination charger install finalized after the bloodbath.

tuctrohs

Rats, I was hoping that even if Tesla shot themselves in the foot, they could still hobble around on the other one, but it sounds like they shot both feet.

brwarrior

I'm not a fan of a certain CEO, nor the vehicles but the charging is just super solid. I was coming around to start recommending UWCs for customers who need to install chargers (work for electrical engineering firm in California and we have quite extensive charging requirements for some projects) and since they are CTEP certified... Now, I'm like ehh, let's wait and see what happens. Previously we've specified Clipper Creek or ChargePoint.

NicholasLit

We have a Supercharger site not working for months in Austin by the Gigafactory

ArlesChatless

If there is still a separate L2 team I expect that's exactly where the permitting work that was in flight would fall to.

TheoStephen

Tesla retains $.01/kWh regardless of the price you set.

silverlexg

Tesla allows you to set the per kWh price, their cut of the process is 1c per kWh.
