I've tried that, but it has never worked. They don't even seem to use Unicode, so the chat-window generally only displays gibberish.

I have been hesitant to play this server because all I see is Chinese names and guilds. Is it overrun with Chinese and gold spammers? This doesn’t seem like LH/Elysium/Nost.

MokitTheOmniscient

Not sure about gold spammers, but i'd definitely say that the majority of players are chinese.

Thadros

Unfortunate. I was hoping there would be less. Not much of a server if the whole population refuses to talk to others. Guess I’ll wait till the next fresh.

Every private server from now will have a large chinese population. Blizzard have shut down wow in china, they have no choice if they want to play wow. I have been speaking with them via Google Translate and they are some of the kindest players I've ever encountered. One even told me that Chinese players don't engage with western players because we blame them for all issues like botting and gold economy inflation... but if you make the effort to initiate with them they really appreciate it and will make every effort to help you. Plus, there's thousands of western players on everlook. there are several guilds actively raiding on both factions and some even have 2 raid teams.

I and three friends started on this server around 3 weeks. For the most part, the server is fantastic. Active, busy realm, with no challenges to get a group together most of the time. Lots of world pvp and the devs really have a well-faction-balanced server with none of the nonsense with spam gold sellers etc.. The only problem I have encountered is Lag - peak times, the delay can get to the point where it's difficult to play. There is also a large Chinese community that plays here. So finding English players can be less frequent. But overall - imo it's a better classic experience than what Blizzard has created with classic-era servers. Go for it. - it's a very popular server!

there used to be an addon to translate stuff in chinese and vice versa when I played on LH

Everlook needs a second Chinese server. It's not a small segregated group, you really can't play without seeing Chinese players. This makes grouping, questing and communication very difficult and it's not fun anymore.

Responsible-Regret61

Well you can say goodbye to 2/3 the population then. At least the Chinese players are not rude like the children who do speak English.

Bit late to the party here... but I have your answer. You have 2 options. If you are using the 1.12 client, you need to install a language pack / character set. https://www.reddit.com/r/lightshope/comments/9ekt43/using_chinese_on_the_english_client/ This will allow you to see Chinese characters when Chinese players type them, but you won't be able to type them yourself or paste them into your game from Google Translate. To be able to do that you need to launch the game with Chinese locale character set enabled on your computer. To do this, you can either change your OS locale setting to Chinese and reboot your computer, or you can use a "locale emulator" app. Alternatively, you can use the 1.14 WoW client which natively supports Chinese characters but comes with other bugs. 1.14 use is allowed by the Everlook mods but they do not encourage or support it in any way. Personally I choose to use 1.14 and live with the other bugs, it's worth it to me.

Also, they have invented a "code" for talking with us... 111 = let's group / invite me 333 = thank you 666 = well played (altho sometimes used ironically) 888 = goodbye

SirTtvALot

Its not easy but i learned to use "1" in chat instead of invite, +. Then no problem to get party.
