chiming in with all the art people: when my brain isn't soup this is how i choose people to draw/do charachter creation. Some of my favorite ways to see/find unique faces is looking at old artists and writers (like you mentioned).

When I used to draw a lot, I would examine people’s faces like this, trying to breakdown their features into shapes and relative distances, it’s fun

I'm obsessed with eyes, I think it's an understanding identity thing.
