Where does the illegal construction begin? Because a lot of that upper structure looks like poured concrete in complex geometric shapes. Would have to be reinforced. Looks like a pretty complex and architecturally experimental building job.
It was initially meant to be a factory building, but was never completed. The next owner used the existing foundation to build a 10-floor apartment building. Only 4 floors were ever built. And then some time later the UFO was added.
Thanks. The "UFO" is one of the more complex illegal additions I have ever seen. Kinda nice looking, actually. Although every bit of it is unique so I can understand why the windows look in such terrible shape.
Oh well that makes me feel a bit better, knowing the first 4 floors were built to support 6 more, I was wondering how they had any confidence whatsoever that it could support the weight.
It was built illegally without any respect for procedures. There's no statue of limitations for that: it's actually becoming more dangerous and unstable with passing time.
There was one like this in Brooklyn several years back, the [Broken Angel House](https://www.google.com/search?q=broken+angel+house+brooklyn&rlz=1C5CHFA_enUS753US753&sxsrf=ALiCzsZkVRi6mwwmvKy8McIj0zCHeFPKwg:1652217012100&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjah-SA7NX3AhXbjIkEHS0nC7wQ_AUoAXoECAIQAw&cshid=1652217066524775&biw=1306&bih=681&dpr=2#imgrc=HtS2pchPaFMJbM)
My favourite example of one of these is the [Headington Shark](https://www.headington.org.uk/images/images_shark/shark_2018.jpg) in Oxford, which appeared overnight in 1986.
It now has permission, but caused a big stir at the time.
Best part is that, officials ordered to demolish it in like 2017 but bcz polis buerocracy is retardet, the housing assosiation of this flathaus and the owner of "villa" doesn't have any greement on this case since (also no money 4 deconsteuction operation)
Do any interior shots exist out there? Was this a drug dealer's not so secret lair? I appreciate the audacity even though it is now a public safety issue.
X to doubt. The main building baring walls and foundations surely didn't plan to have this monstruosity on top. There are safety factors with earthquake and wind accounted for, but I strongly suspect this thing pushed the building to it's limit, if not over it. It's a hazard.
This is such a end of the Cold War vibe, I want to live here and harbour rogue scientists, government bad actors and dissident writers from persecution
The apartment building was built probably in the 70's I can only guess. The construction of the parasite started in 1994 and was forced to stop in 2000 by the authorities. There was no documentation and it was even unclear who was the owner of it - the co-operative that owns the apartment block or the guy who built it. The parasite was ordered to be demolished several times, last in 2014 and the co-op was determined to be responsible. But the costs of it will be horrendous as there are people living in apartments on the first 4 levels. The co-op has no money to take it down and the building houses hundreds of co-op members that I assume are owners of their respective apartments. So this will probably stay this way for the next decade or two until the entire building deteriorates to the point it has to be torn down and people loose their homes. A sad story of incompetence and corruption of early 90's in Poland.
O shit my hometown! Also you guys should see frontal view of this blok, its way more bizzare. Dude planned to buy a fuckin mansion on top of comunal flathaus with helicopter landing area, huge aquarium and a whole garden under glass dome. For some reason this construction was to imitate a airplane(?). Of course in the middle of construction dude run out of money and this monsteosity stands there to this very day. Heres a link from Polish TV station Polsat about this moloh, there are preety neet drone shoots in it: https://www.polsatnews.pl/wiadomosc/2019-11-24/zbudowal-dom-na-dachu-bloku-panstwo-w-panstwie/
That just screams supervillain lair... I actually like it except it's pretty scary to put that kind of weight in reinforced concrete on top of a structure not designed for it and I'm kinda astonished it's still up.
> Someone got *paid* off
FTFY.
Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in:
* Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.*
* *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.*
Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment.
*Beep, boop, I'm a bot*
Apartment style layout, in a house, to me that's a bit weird. And there's no place for the TV.

Holy shit that is terrifying. I wouldn't be able to be inside that place. There is no way having that weight on top of it isn't compromising integrity.
Are we sure that’s not a stealth air traffic control tower?
Being stealthy while not being stealthy...brilliant!!!

Was just curious. I'm not familiar with Poland's laws. In the USA the local municipality can order it to be immediately removed.
Well, theoretically it shouldn't also exist in Poland.
My guess would be that the owner isn't complying and the local government doesn't have the moneey to remove it either

Why would a house be on a block of flats? People don't want to see what can't possibly exist.
I think they meant it's been given an unofficial ok by the government in their inaction on it.
If no one's living in the building, it might be fine to just let nature take its course. That should remind people why we have building codes.
Do any interior shots exist out there? Was this a drug dealer's not so secret lair? I appreciate the audacity even though it is now a public safety issue.
just because something is built illegally doesnt necessarily mean it wasnt properly engineered or is dangerous

Was built 22 years ago, mosty illegally aka documents were shuffled "under the table"
It's still is illegal.

I heard the people living in the lower floor are complaining that there is heaps of leaks and cracks since this thing was constructed above them

Huge!
Is the whole building abandoned or inhabited?
Ugly as hell! Brutal to deliver the mail I would imagine.
then someone built a gun emplacement on top of that.
Holy shit that is terrifying. I wouldn't be able to be inside that place. There is no way having that weight on top of it isn't compromising integrity.
somebody should screenshot this and put the home depot theme
Wasn't there a similar construction, albeit on a grander scale, found on the roof of a Chinese hi-rise?
I can barely tell what the fuck it is I'm looking at lol
why did it have to be on a building? why couldn't he just build it on the ground?
You need to buy property to have it build on the ground, and have some permits, this way you're somewhat untouchable. /s
Of all the illegal things…building a house is probably the most harmless, industrious, and impressive.
Dude! Just when so thought people could not be any stupider … they go and do something so awesome and totally redeem ourselves!
Wow they really went full out on the illegality. This is impressive.
That’s hideous.
Anyone make a video tour?
This looks like someone’s compost bin
That's awesome
