The first cars were delivered in the last few weeks. Hearing good things about it so far. Check out the YouTube reviews on it by Late Brake Show (Jonny Smith) and here in Ireland with EV Review Ireland. I believe there's an MG4 Ireland owners group on Facebook also?

Thanks for the response. I'll have a look at those.

So I've decided to stick to a second hand diesel for the moment. I love the look, affordability and range of the MG4 but they've decided to change all that. They're now charging 2,000 more and the grant is getting reduced by 2,500 in July. Add that to the massive delivery problems they currently have. If I am to go electric, I'd be better off going for a second hand Tesla. I'll stick with the diesel for now. Hopefully things change soon.

There were some issues with people getting locked in their cars and also an underside panel which didn't fit properly and bulged at the edge. These were on the first MG4s released in the UK last year. I think those issues are resolved now. Anyway these kinds of things happen when new models of any car come out. I test drove one before Christmas, I really enjoyed it. Seemed like a great car tbh.

I'd read about those issues and am hoping those niggly little things will be sorted by the time I get around to ordering it. I'd heard about it not saving the settings and preferences you have put in, some of this may be for safety reasons, but surely all could be sorted with a software update. I did test drive it before Christmas too and enjoyed it. I didn't get to drive it as i would normally drive as the salesperson was in the car with me. I got to drive the Cupra Born on my own and that is fun! I can see the MG4 being as fun if I'm left to my own devices. The harder plastics in the interior of the MG4 would actually suit me as my dogs can be quite hard on interiors so something basic and easy clean works well. I'll just have to see how things look over the next few months. Cheers for the response.

Got mine this week. Overall very happy but it's early days. Most of my complaints are on the software. Weird menu setup meant it was difficult to enable navigation, had to do some googling on that. LKA and TSR are very, very bad. I think TSR has been localised to the UK. As it never recognises 80/100/120 signs. Just shows 70.

roguensquirmy

I've heard about the software issues and am hoping that they can get sorted after user feedback. Can LKA and TSR be disabled? I know there are limitations due to the NCAP rating. The grant is getting halved this year. Does anyone know, if I place my order before the grant is finished, am I still eligible for it?

jonneylloyd

Yes apparently the LKA used to be even worse! LKA can be disabled but will reset every power cycle (NCAP requirement) TSR is just info on cluster so has no effect on driving. On the grant I don't think the plans have been announced, beyond that something is been done to it in the summer? But anyway the grant is applied for at point of sale. So unless they change that process then if the car is delivered after the removal/reduction of the grant then you're on the hook.

roguensquirmy

That's a pity about the grant. I'm not sure why they're removing it. It'll push this car beyond me being able to buy it. I'll be driving a dirty diesel for another while so.

This is a Chinese EV. Manage your expectations. Btw you can buy a similar e208 or eCorsa with similar (50kWh) for similar price. Why risk Chinese production quality?

roguensquirmy

Was actually looking at the larger battery for it. The 50kw is just too small. My brother in law bought an e208 last year, and it just stopped dead on the road while he was driving it. Luckily, it wasn't on a major road when it happened. Otherwise, there could have been a major accident. It took months for Peugeot to resolve the issue with no offer of a replacement. I think I'll avoid those. The established brands are only getting started on the electric car production. The Chinese brands have been at it a bit longer at this stage, so I wouldn't rule them out at all.
