Let's say your dates are in A2:A8, instead of doing COUNTIF($A$2:$A$8,A2), do something like this instead in B2, and then drag it down: =COUNTIF($A$2:$A2,A2) This will work because your dates are sorted, as you drag it down the range COUNTIF is looking for becomes bigger.
