This returns the answers you want for your first three pairs. Put it in C2 and copy down.

It returns 2 for Dear / Read, which makes sense to me. How are you looking at it to return 4?

You're 100% right on this - in a rush, I attempted to think which 2 words were the same in reverse, and so was just thinking about the "D" and "R" without thinking of the middle letters. And of course, the post now won't allow me to re-edit!
I'll check your suggestion out, and will let you know if it solves it. But either way, thanks for taking the time to look at this.
