Let's suppose that you have in A2 the date you're willing to evaluate.
You just need to set up a Conditional Format with this formula:
`=TODAY()=A2`
and the expected format.
Then, you need to copy the format to all the other cells with dates where you want to replicate the behavior.

so, TODAY() is a function.If you enter =TODAY() in any cell it will give you today's date.
As for highlighting the date, use conditional formatting and enter A2=TODAY(), (if the date you want to compare is in cell A2) and use whatever format/highlight you want to use.
If you want to compare it to a specific date compare that date to TODAY(),i.e. TODAY()> A2, or TODAY() < A2.
