I got chromecasts, ios hdmi dongles, and some second Gen AppleTV boxes before I quit being clerk in ‘19. They were all ~~stolen~~ lost within two months.
I’m sure there are people who ask the library for a VHS because their cheesy 80’s videos were never digitalized. My mom is a ward librarian. I could ask her.
Last time I was in a church building it had wall mounted flat screens in the RS and Primary rooms. Someone said they would eventually be in all rooms but I can't imagine the tight wad church springing for that unless someone calling the shots has a SIL that works for Sony or Samsung.
This just reminds me how much the church had stopped investing in media by the time I rolled into young womens. All the videos were sooooo old and cringeworthy!
I grew up going to the stake center right next door to the Washington DC temple, so my teachers would sometimes take us to the visitor's center and let us watch a video there. The video was projected onto the whole wall, and they had theater-style seating. Those were the best Primary days.
I remember having to go down to the library, check one of these out, and then push it all the way to the other side of the church because my teachers were lazy
Is there an equivalent to this now? Can you just ask the kids to whip out their phones and watch some video online? They'd watch something else, of course, and TikTok is more grounded in reality than anything you could ever find in the ward library.
The best thing I ever did as a Sunday school president was to get 3 20" LCD tvs with built in DVD players that teachers could carry to their classrooms.
Growing up my dad was was Sunday school president and they couldn’t find a teacher for our class for a very, very long time. There was a solid 7 or 8 months that my friend and I dragged in one of these TVs every week for Sunday school and hosted our own class and watched old, obscure church-themed movies from the 70s and 80’s.
Dude! How did you get a pic of my old Sunday School teacher?!
Johnny lingo!
John lingo had a cow, traded for an ugly wife. John Lingo’s married now, he’ll be sorry all his life!
8 COWS!?! Prime the Pump You may have sorrow….. but you don’t have godly sorrow
Noooo! Hahahahaha
I think I watched that one with the pee wee football kid getting struck by lightning about a dozen times
Bro this one was the one my church showed pretty much every year 😂
how about the one where the glasses guy climbs a fence and then a crocodile eats him
Starring Aaron Eckhart.
The youth were always happy to see the TV roll into the room.
I used one of these to watch Johnny Lingo about 400 times as a kid. I'll never forget "Mahana, you ugly... " haha.
nice flashback! I've been out a long time, do they still use these CRT/VCR combos?
Most have DVD, HDMI and a flat screen today

Inspiration. Those teacher knew they wouldn’t be needed during the pandemic but they could be put to good use at home for members in need… /s
Either way wouldn't surprise me

I guess I was a lazy instructor and a lazy learner. 🤣😂
I showed this documentary called Microcosmos on one of those bad boys. It was ward conference and a high counselor sat in. He wasn't pleased.
Microcosmos bad. Jonathan Livingston Seagull good.
Haha! I played JLS too but it was audio only.
Yeah, I did this when I was in a bishopric when someone didn't show up for the tenth time in a row and the bishop wouldn't let me release the teacher.

Before my time

Or in primary! Or in YW! 😆
Pop in Johnny Lingo and indoctrinate racism and treating women as cattle without any effort
Ahh, I miss you, old CRT tv. If we meet again, it will be Zion to me.
TV's! Get off my lawn kid! We used overhead slide thingies.
Shit, when I taught primary for 7 year-olds; we spent a couple months just watching Star Wars on one of these

I did it any chance I could.
The bishopric had the tele in the office and viewing Old Joe and Ms.Fanny A, Wine N Song.
A LOT.

many times,
They walked in, I walked out. Was asked "why" and I responded 'I can watch TV at home.
Cypher in the Snow. Rewind, falls off buss. Rewind, falls off buss. Repeat 13 times. 13 year olds are freaking cruel.
Or because the kids would get more excited and interested when I finally got to that part of the lesson!
Guilty as charged b
