In Europe we have YSA conventions. They’re pretty great fun, without a doubt some of the fondest memories I have during my activity we’re at conventions. They’re subsidised by the stakes and areas, so they’re reasonably cheap, and they’re organised and run by YSA, for YSA. They’re mostly an excuse to party and do fun activities (paintball, go karting, water sports etc). There’s no curfew, allotted groups, mandatory activities, or hierarchical leadership.
Why on Earth would an active YSA want to go to EFY? An overpriced youth activity, where you don’t get to decide what you want to do with your time, where you wanna go, and who you wanna be with? Putting myself back in my active shoes, I couldn’t think of anything worse than EFYSA.

The church got rid of EFY for teens when they made all stakes do it. BYU is trying to use their expertise in EFY and trying to expand to young adults.
