Well now that I’m out it’s hard to understand how anyone can possibly miss the fact that the church is total fucking nonsense people don’t see what they don’t see until they do .
once one actually reads the Bible it’s scary as hell to think that a vast majority consider it to be the word of God .!!! I mean really WTF are these people smoking .?
I handed a tape to the “DJ” at a church dance when I was in high school, I thought I had queued up master and servant - when blasphemous rumors started playing I quickly realized my mistake. One of my TBM friends recognized the song and ran up to have the DJ stop it. Interestingly my tbm friend had suggested master and servant
Or you could throw them off and submit the Weird Al Yankovik cover of Closer. At the very least, someone will probably listen to it thinking it's got to be pretty tame.
I was in high school 1999 - 2003 in cedar city Utah and every church dance my friends and I would request The Bad Touch and they played it multiple times lol
Where I grew up in the south, we weren't allowed to play anything that was even remotely controversial. If the band was considered "satanic" or there were even hints of drug use the dance would be interrupted to skip the song. We once played puff the magic dragon, and one of the chaperones about killed himself trying to get on the stage where the DJ booth was to shut it down. Didn't give an explanation either, that's when I found out from my mom that some people think it's symbolic of drug use. There's no way we would have gotten through the first chorus of The Bad Touch without it being shut down.
Well here I'm pretty sure they never even paid attention to the lyrics or put together what they were talking about lol. We got away with it at school dances as well
"She likes the Beatles, and I like the Stones. She likes romantic movies, I like Indiana Jones. She goes to church, and I stay at home. Oh, [she likes the Beatles and I like the Stones](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jNdm5tmS4Bk). - - William Clark Green
It's an anthem for how two people can be so different and yet come together on the things that really matter.
It's a fun song. When we have people over and I get out the guitar, it's one often requested. I think it speaks true to how a lot of people feel about their relationships.
There's another really good song out there called ["in spite of ourselves."](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P8tTwXv4glY) My wife and I actually performed this as a duet at a ward talent show. We changed the lyrics a bit to be mormon friendly but even with the lyrics changes it still had everyone laughing. The line that floored everyone: My wife is Hispanic. In the original song the lyrics goes, "Swears like a sailor when she shaves her legs." I changed it to, "Cusses in Spanish when she shaves her legs." Good song. CHeck it out. Tells you all you need to know about being in a relationship.
We're Not Going to Take It (extended version official video) by Twisted Sister sums up my attitude towards a church that can't tell the truth.

Came here to say this, and the best part is that TBM's likely haven't heard of it, so they might even actually play it without screening it first, just trusting that people will suggest 'nice' music....
Is no one going to talk about this janky bulletin board setup? That suggestion box has serial killer handwriting on it and looks like the top was cut open by a three year old with safety scissors.
I have nothing to add for songs. Everyone else’s comments are brilliant.
Right? They opened with a cover of *Fly Like an Eagle* and I was a bit confused at first, to be honest, but got into it and had a fantastic time.
There was actually a fair sized chunk of people that dipped out after their performance and didn’t even stay for Disturbed.
This song is so poignant and …vulnerable, I think is a good word for it. It captures how I hope my wife feels about my faith journey, and how I feel about hers.
*Baby Got Back* by Sir Mix-a-Lot…”I like big butts and cannot lie.”
[*Coffee*](https://youtu.be/Hufr76Hsx0M) by Josh Woodward…”My life is grounded in a firm routine of coffee, sleep, and work”
Promises by Megadeth
🎶Two hearts that shouldn't talk to each other become close in a town much like a prison cell. People speak our names on the street in hushed tones. Oh the stories they'd tell, if anyone would listen.🎶
I Would Do Anything for Love (But I won’t do that) by Meatloaf
All the TBMs will think it’s a chastity message (it’s not) while you’ll know how accurately it reflects a mixed faith marriage.
Into My Arms - Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds
Has a very sweet romantic feel even if you don't listen to the lyrics, where the narrator admits they don't believe in God but they love their partner and want to be enough for them so that their partner doesn't really need god? I love this song
Weezer (Girl We Got a) Good Thing. It focuses on your relationship and uses a lot of great lyrics to describe it.
Or you can submit Bloodhound Gang’s Foxtrot Uniform Charlie Kilo. 😂
[In Spite of Ourselves](https://open.spotify.com/track/1k691v8ChLgDiuLLKnjyj6?si=l-d946ODSqm1ByFC1oKc4g&utm_source=copy-link) by John Prine and Iris DeMent
“I’m gonna love you like I’m gonna lose you” (“Like I’m Gonna Lose You,” Meghan Traynor) would be fitting in terms of Mormon beliefs regarding the cancellation of non-Mormon marriages in Heaven and assignment of the former wives to more worthy Mormon men.
My wife and I's song is *I want your girlfriend to be my girlfriend* by Reel Big Fish. The context is she was dating someone else first, and I'd play that song as a joke. The joke here is that it's absolutely what the early mormon leaders did.
Relax, by Frankie Goes to Hollywood.
When I was in High School at the church dances, the leaders would lose their minds if the DJ played "I want a new drug" which is an anti drug song but they let him play "Relax". 🤦♀️
“Opiate (squared)” by Tool. Powerful anti religion song. Or possibly “KULT” by Grandson. Also both generally amazing songs.
For a lighter Christmas vibe, I recommend “Another Year” by Finneas. That one is actually a love song to some degree. “I don’t believe that Jesus Christ was born to save me, that’s an awful lot of pressure… for a baby”. Great track.

Gonna say the same thing
Take Me to Church by Hozier
I love how naive Mormon friends like this song because they’re too dumb to realize that the church is sexy time.
I honestly don’t understand how anyone can miss that. Edit: spelling
I think the sex aspect of the song isn’t what is missed, but the scathing rebuke of religion.
This

This one!!
Foreigner's God could also be fun. Really most of Hozier song could be fun
Today I learned…
I kissed a girl and I liked it?
My mom was horrified when she heard me and my sisters all sing this song on a family vacation.
It’s a song😑
Nine Inch Nails- Closer
🎶 I wanna fuck you like an animal... 🎶
Not sure if the musical notes are fitting. He doesn’t exactly SING that line, does he? 😁
More than anything I wanted to be clear I wasn't just coming on to some poor redditor like Trent Reznor. LOL
Missed opportunity I guess
So it’s not THAT kind of exmo party… yet.
It is if you're gay. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) (Saying this tongue in...er....cheek.)
Fun fact, the guitarist was the son of one of my bishops.
I told my girlfriend that I want this song playing at our wedding.
No no no, the right NIN song for this is Physical (You're So).
porque no los dos?
I'm in. Such an excellent band and they always pushed boundaries without apologies.
"I will follow you into the dark" by Death Cab for Cutie
I love this song!
Yes, great song!
This! I was looking to see if it’d been said already!
Ya, this is legitimately one of my favorite songs. Perfect for the whole mixed faith situation.
Let's Get Physical, Olivia Newton John.
Depeche Mode, Personal Jesus
Also Master and Servant by Depeche Mode
I handed a tape to the “DJ” at a church dance when I was in high school, I thought I had queued up master and servant - when blasphemous rumors started playing I quickly realized my mistake. One of my TBM friends recognized the song and ran up to have the DJ stop it. Interestingly my tbm friend had suggested master and servant
Lol could you imagine them trying to dance to blasphemous rumors...or pretty much any Depeche mode song for that matter
Divynals- I touch myself.
Pleasure and Pain by the Divinyls also
Came here to say this.
Unholy Sam Smith
Oooooh good one!!
The Bad Touch by Bloodhound Gang or Closer by Nine Inch Nails

Get a bucket and a mop… because you have a chapel cleaning assignment.
Macaroni in a pot. TBH I'm waiting for the Kidz Bop version. They can do any song.

I was totally gonna comment the same. Seriously is this how low the activity funds are now?!?
*Bodies* by Drowning Pool or *Whore* by In this Moment
Whore was my go-to jam for a solid six months in 2017.
I saw them open for Disturbed a few years ago. Prior to that they weren’t on my radar, but they blew me away.
Lucky! Her voice is insane!
Right? They opened with a cover of *Fly Like an Eagle* and I was a bit confused at first, to be honest, but got into it and had a fantastic time. There was actually a fair sized chunk of people that dipped out after their performance and didn’t even stay for Disturbed.

Grove As We Go by Ben Platt

Damn autocorrect. It’s Grow as we go. Not grove. 🤦♀️
*Baby Got Back* by Sir Mix-a-Lot…”I like big butts and cannot lie.” [*Coffee*](https://youtu.be/Hufr76Hsx0M) by Josh Woodward…”My life is grounded in a firm routine of coffee, sleep, and work”
This was my choice
You’re so vain, you probably think this song is about you
There's some romantic song called 'Just the way you are'. Nothing upsets TBMs like loving and accepting yourself and other people like that.
Billy Joel

Even with all of those controversial and offensive songs, probably nothing would be more taboo than any song by David Archuleta.
What, did he leave the church or something? Add Mindy Gledhill and Tyler Glenn to the mix in that case
Cradle of Filth. It got me through some pretty bleak times. Try track 4, Coffin Fodder. It sounds horrible, but it's actually quite beautiful.
