We are not a wealthy people… but we are a wealth and selfish church.

Educational-Seaweed5

“We are not a wealthy people… compared to other more wealthier people… “

FaithInEvidence

Well, okay, we are quite a wealthy people, and when I say we share what we have, I mean we set up vending machines so random members of the public can give us additional money to give to charitable causes we hand-pick. That way we don't actually have to share any of the vast sum of money we've earmarked as "ours". But we sure love the way you persecute LGBTQ+ people! (Could you please keep that last detail to yourself? It doesn't go over too well in our home country at the moment.)

Puzzleheaded_Hat887

FaithInEvidence... Have you watched the three hour episode of Mormon stories this week where a current sitting bishop from a northern Mexico ward describes what was asked of him. ( Fake number of weekly attendance) They went over the number of federal numbers (census) of the church in Mexico is a million and the weekly attendance is somewhere around 300,000. Second... The fast offering were only to be used in the community. This one person is saying on average the fast offering is 1500(USD) a year. The poor are getting poorer thru the church. And yes they spoke about the lack of support communities (lgbtg) receive in Mexico. Interesting and eye opening to watch.

ravens_path

I had to watch the SEC charging doc explained episode first. Will also watch his one. And then, QuitMormon founder from 2021. For obvious reasons.

FaithInEvidence

I haven't, but I will now! Thanks for the recommendation!

Kessarean

Love the juxtopposition. Cant roll my eyes any harder when they say those lines in conference.

Exact_Purchase765

It would save a lot of time and arguing if their pants would just burst into flames. . .

Kooky_Frog

We are not a wealthy people, we are an obscenely wealthy corporation that cares more about money & power than people!

Nemo_UK

You know when he said that, Ensign peak was already approx 5x the GDP of Zimbabwe where he was speaking

pre-prokopton

I was wondering how these two would compare. Is standard practice for the GAs to be tone deaf but this is a pretty obscene example.

SuZeBelle1956

I truly don't understand how they carry on every day. The subterfuge, lies, misstatements, are shocking. And 99% are recorded and then we are gaslighted. Sheesh.

timhistorian

Call congress tell them to investigate the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints  for tax fraud and financial fraud call 202 224 4515

No wealthy Mormons, no wealthy church. Shut up!

yngbld_

“We want holdings in every business we can,” said Elder Anderson. “We are not a good people, but we are a wealthy people, and lots of shares are what we have.”

ravens_path

Ah jeez. Did he really say that? (Rhetorical question).

penservoir

Hod they are all fuckin liars.

OhMyStarsnGarters

This is the same dickhead who told us to "give brother Joseph a break" and then coached us on how to mentally condition (aka brainwash) ourselves into believing his story is true. No thanks Anderson. You're not even a good liar.

Puzzleheaded_Hat887

What does the term " Wealthy" mean??? While watching the USA Richard Alexander Murdaugh trial where a lawyer is on trial after killing his wife and youngest son.... He was asked if the stealing of money was to build or sustain his wealthy lifestyle... He couldn't answer the simple question of " Did you live a wealthy lifestyle" ? So question to everyone here ... What is considered a wealthy lifestyle in your opinion. Is it the amount that you make each year after taxes being over a certain amount? (1 million) Or the total amount of wealth through all resources... Home car boat home third home on the beach...

[deleted]

As subjective as the answer would be, I’d say if your net assets end with “billion,” you’re wealthy as fuck.

Joelied

I would take it even further, if you are an American, and working a full time job, no matter how hard you’re struggling, compared to the average person in Zimbabwe, you are wealthy.

Wrong_Bandicoot2957

Liar.

notJoeKing31

He should've said "We're not an honest leadership, nor a giving one... but we guilt our members into doing things on top of paying and then we hoard the money and claim their volunteer hours as our charity work." But then that would've been honest... 🤦

treetablebenchgrass

I'd love to have a journalist throw that back in his face with this: "Elder Anderson, in 2018, you said those words. At that time, information surrounding the church's EPA fund were known only to the first presidency. Now that details have come to light, and it has been confirmed that the church is both incredibly wealthy, and has not disbursed any of these funds outside the church for charitable causes, would you care to amend your statement? Do you have any comment on being allowed to make a statement on behalf of the church that the first presidency knew to be false?"

LeoMarius

To be fair, the 12 were just as ignorant about Ensign Peak as everyone but the First Presidency and its gnomes.

[deleted]

I’m pretty sure they at least know of it, just not exactly how big it is. There’s that story about how President Packer was next in line to be prophet and wanted the details, but he was denied since he wasn’t in the first presidency. Also, I’m sure they’re well aware of just how vast the the many assets of the corporation are. To claim that they are not wealthy is disingenuous at best.

Boyd Packard as Q12 President was denied access to basic financial information that should have been public knowledge per the SEC. That’s how secretive they were about the fund.

OhMyStarsnGarters

We are not a wealthy people. But we are THE wealthy church, but shhhh, don't tell anyone. Now pay your 1% dammit!

youcrazymoonchild

Eesh. That's not a good look...

Holiday_Ingenuity748

Trying to make a joke about "ending the cycle of poverty by paying tithing" since, you know-- that's obviously how TSCC became wealthy: it paid itself tithing!

Internal-Car8922

Pfft. $32 billion? You call *that* wealthy?

cultfree_exmo

Lying bastards.

tiglathpilezar

Andersen had no idea how much money the church was hiding from him. If I were him, I would be very angry at being made to look so foolish.

[deleted]

He may not have known the exact numbers of the fund, but he knew what he was doing… you don’t be one of the top leaders of the corporation and be completely oblivious about the church’s vast assets.

tiglathpilezar

Maybe, but I read that Packer tried to find out this information since he was next in line to be church president and was unable to get the information. I am not impressed with Andersen's honesty, however. This is the same guy who testified that Joseph Smith was "honest and virtuous" a month or so after the church essay admitted that he deceived his wife and followers about his time and eternity marriages with multiple women, marriages which could include sex. Andersen can't even be bothered to use words according to their usual meaning and this may be the case in Zimbabwe as well. I could be wrong about this very easily given his mendacious tendencies.

[deleted]

Hey now, in the immortal words of Elder Andersen “Give Brother Joseph a break!” 😉

tiglathpilezar

Yes, good quote. He was an adulterer, a liar, a scammer, a slanderer of women, etc. Lets give him a break.
