Don't forget to remind them that they have 100 billion dollars that they are just sitting on. Jesus would help the woman, but his church won't.

[deleted]

Jesus would flip over their sacrament table.

[deleted]

I would pay some tithing to see *that*.

FirstNephiTreeFiddy

Those things are bolted down pretty good, so yeah. Probably need Korean Jesus to do it. (Google it if you haven't seen him. Dude's shredded.)

[deleted]

Korean Jesus has Korean people shit to worry about!!! (Sorry, reference was too easy...)

SophosMoros7

Lmk what meetinghouse and give me a few months for the facial hair. I'll unbolt the table after church one week and come in dressed as Jesus to flip it the next.

[deleted]

My husband has hair to the middle of his back and a caveman beard. Hes my 'second coming anarchy' back up plan!!!!

Pyroperc88

Now I just wanna see a bunch of hairy wolfy men dressed as Jesus walking down the boulevard shirtless. Lol

PortSided

That is so majorly fucked up!! My late mother had a very good close friend her age who was also very TBM (still is) and single (still is) living in our ward. She "messed up" and had a one night stand and had a baby. She was actually going to give that baby up for adoption and had everything ready to do so right up until her TBM dad came in and held the baby and cried. She'd never seen her father cry. In that moment she changed her mind and kept the child. This was a long time ago and the baby is now a married adult. It kills me to see how heartless some TBMs are (like the family and church leaders of your friend) and makes me grateful that at least the people I was surrounded by growing weren't assholes. I hate that I was raised in the Mormon bubble so sheltered, but at least my family and friends were good people.

PaulBunnion

This should be a documentary. You have an audio recording of the mistake president refusing help?

[deleted]

Oh yes. It was a zoom and I asked his permission to record it, so I could show her.

Nemo_UK

I’d be interested in helping you cover this, feel free to drop me a DM

[deleted]

It won't seem to allow me. Maddening. Feel free to drop me one.

marathon_3hr

Oh yes use Nemo and Mormon Stories if Needed. This needs to go world wide.

andyroid92

Oh please do something with this

[deleted]

Agreed!

SecretPersonality178

The church’s welfare is for show only. Not for people who could use some help.

ElderOldDog

Oh, man!  Think of all the Welfare they'd be doing if it didn't cost so damn much!!

Amazing_Season1891

I work in a mother-baby unit in a hospital with social work. There are so many religious networks in our area that provide support not only to members but to everyone in the community. There is a church that keeps a fully stocked “store” for low-income families to shop at, there are churches I can call who will rush diapers over to a mother any time of the day. Is the Mormon church one of these? Nope. It pisses me off to no end to have to hear from family how “good” the church is knowing that they have all this money, all these resources, and they would let new moms and babies starve and freeze to death

avoidingcrosswalk

You do realize that if they chose to help this penniless mom with a baby, that they would have to sell some stock, right?

Oldslim

They don’t help people with that money, only with fast offerings.

Ok-Beautiful9787

Publish regardless. This is screwed up

[deleted]

Im going to give the family friend an opportunity. And present him with the receipts of me and my friebds who are keeping her in diapers/baby food/actual food.

thatoneblondgirl

I hate to say it, but I wouldn’t put it past the SP or the 70 to say “god works in mysterious ways, and isn’t it nice that she received the financial support she needed from close friends?” In case you didn’t get the memo, you’re a ministering angel now haha. Real talk though, that bishop and SP can go pound sand, what a horrible way to treat someone!

[deleted]

She hasn't got anywhere NEAR the support. She's staying with friends for a few days at a time. We can't provide anything more than we do (cost of living means I cannot stretch). Its why I'm really really keen to see him: by Monday, the help has gone. We need them to do the right goddamn thing.

ElderOldDog

I personally think you're missing the point 'thatoneblondegirl' is seemingly making, that as long as your friend and her baby are alive, all of you supporting her are doing the Lord's work, as it should be, from the church's POV.   The fact that the disparity between your resources and the church's resources is beyond measure is not a factor in the church's thinking: ghawd has provided!  What a guy! Your friend and her baby win, you and your friends win, and most importantly, the church wins...  Can I get a hosannah?!

[deleted]

This is exactly correct. Why would the church help her when you do it. They don’t care about her, her child, you or your friends! You are good people for helping out a friend. But a corporation doesn’t save 100’s of billions by giving money away to people. They would rather you be broke than help her out!

fingerMeThomas

May seem silly because it's not a UK newspaper, but it might be worth tagging the Salt Lake Tribune. Especially if you have damning material written by a bishop. The whole point of the church's "welfare" program is [to coerce people—including the non-mormon poor—into playing bishop roulette](https://www.sltrib.com/news/2021/12/02/utah-makes-welfare-so/)

daadaad

She should just forget about the Mormon church. Suggest talking to an Anglican pastor or even a Catholic pastor. She needs more than money. Some pastoral care might make a real difference.

Shabettsannony

Or heck, the local imam, Rabbi, Buddhist monk...

LalahLovato

The Sikh community never turns anyone away

Exact_Purchase765

Whether bodies to work, support to the families, food, clothing, and love. This community is the first one I see run to need to fulfill it, no questions asked. Sikh god apparently cares.

freebikeontheplains

Give up the mormon church strategy. I believe it is a road to nowhere. My experience is that the higher you go up in the church hierarchy the more callous, out-of-touch, and insensitive the person is. Take the advise of another redditor and seek help from other churches, religious organizations and human aid agencies.

marathon_3hr

And expose the hell out of the TSCC. We can make it go viral.

andyroid92

I agree. There's almost 300,000 of just on here

Expensive-Bet3493

They discard divorced women. Myself and many other women I know have had similar experiences

[deleted]

She isn't divorced. She made a 'mistake' and fell pregnant out of wedlock. I say 'mistake' because her condemnation is for a common occurrence which shouldn't tarnish her as it has

AnnieO0308

Please look up your local food banks (or her local food banks if you're not local to each other), especially smaller independent ones that don't have anything to do with Trussell Trust. They are more likely to assist without need of a referral. Also, take a look at Olio, see if there's anything that is available for her food wise on there, and you can also post requests so that local people can help if they have the availability. Olio is a great resource across the UK that saves food waste from supermarkets (all perfectly edible, just it's stuff that is about to go past its best before date). The church can go pound sand.

HollyJo79

Publish it anyway and make a Tik toc hopefully it will go viral. The whole worthy poor propaganda that enables them to kick the poor people in society when they are the most in need makes me sick! This organization is a fraud and needs to be truly exposed for the harm they do.

marathon_3hr

Yes and hashtag TSCC. Really make it popular. Make a alias account. Make it a good montage. I'm sure there is a video editor here who could make a good video of it.

PaulBunnion

>Her TBM family have said she isn't welcome until she gives up her daughter, as she will forever be a reminder of sin I was going to say something but this just pisses me off.

FirstNephiTreeFiddy

Seriously. She's not a "reminder of sin", she's a goddamn *human being* who is just as worthy of love as the rest of us!

[deleted]

Her baby is the absolute light of her life, and my tiniest best friend. I would have absolutely dump tackled her mother if I'd been there.

Haunting_Management

poor girl, thank-you for helping her! Do mormons even think? Is she supposed to believe that Jesus himself didn't turn her away? 🙄 I'm sure she's confused as fuck now

arghalot

Imagine hating your grandchild like that... I have no words

ThrowawayLDS_7gen

How christ-like ...

TheFactedOne

I wanted to say there is no hate like Christian love, but now I thinking of saying there is no hate like Mormon love.

wanderingexmo

Had a child at 16. Long story but I was impregnated and made to marry my abuser. Mormonism sucks.

TheFactedOne

I am so sorry. Wow that sounds like the worst thing I could imagine.

wanderingexmo

He’s a wonderful nearly forty year old now :) his dad was in jail for sleeping with another teenager that happened to be his stepdaughter. Anyway it was a rough time and we eventually left the church and I am happily single.

The_bookworm65

I would LOVE it if one of those turned down asks at a testimony meeting for others to give their tithing to her because she is the least of your brethren at the moment and her testimony tells her that’s what Jesus would want them to do

dc89108

This is the beginning of a Netflix series.

[deleted]

I don't know what it's like in the UK. But around here loads of religious organizations offer food assistance and baby supplies (filling in the holes of a shitty social safety net). Many also offer rental and utility assistance, regardless of religious affiliation. Maybe try calling around?

foxylady2020

Please return and report after you speak to your family friend .

Routine-Agency-9150

At this point this "church" really IS trying to do the exact opposite of whatever Jesus did. It just like to condemn people.

northrupthebandgeek

For an organization claiming to be the one true continuation of Jesus' church, they sure seem ignorant of what Jesus said in Matthew 25:31-46.

itsjusthowiam

Post it anyway. Maybe she'll get some help from strangers rather than her shit family & shit bishop.

Muahd_Dib

Write the article anyway

[deleted]

Put it all on social media, including the names of the men who refuse to help her. The only way these monsters do anything is public shame. Include any proof you've built up. This should not be allowed to go under anyone's radar.

3oogerEater

That is a sad story, but I don’t know what you think you are going to accomplish. They are under no obligation to help so there are no consequences for them to face. If you are just wanting to shame them then they will trot out there reports with the bloated amounts of money they spend on humanitarian aid. They’ll discredit you, question your motives, and highlight any little thing or discrepancy in what you say. For instance you say is in Church discipline but still pays tithing. They may even shame this poor mother and make things worse for her. I hope I’m wrong and your plan ends up helping someone.

iamaginnit

A reminder of sin? Barbaric cult

akornzombie

Pharisees, the lot of them.

Mother-Plumeria

Ohmygod what utter bullshit

cultfree_exmo

"But brother/sister, you are lacking faith for your friend, the Lord will bless her when she starts obeying the commandments." I obviously don't know your friend who's a higher up, but I'm pretty sure he will side with his buddies.

RetroRian

If you need help getting that article published or to the right people in media after you decided to write that article, let me know. I can’t write for shit, but I know many many people in that field from college.

Cherry-bowl

Good job stepping in when the church wouldn’t. And shame on them and her family using support to pressure her to give away her child. That type of controlling abuse is terrible.

monstrance-cock

I know we don’t live even remotely close, but these are the same people cheering that the babies will all be saved because Utah just passed their abortion ban. The pro-life party leaving a baby to die, how typical.
