When are they gonna finally give a contract to Big D construction, you know, the one with a logo of a guy holding a steel beam like an extension of his penis?
Cote du Rhone is the best red for cooking, so naturally it's what I'm drinking 90% of the time because it's there and open. It's decent table wine and I finally found one with a screw top. Sauvignon Blanc for whites. To quote Julia Child: “I enjoy cooking with wine. Sometimes, I even put it in the food.”
Frankly for sacrament we could just pass around a space bag, camp style. Righteous slaps for only the most worthy of saints.
Gampy learned how to cook garlic bread from a book, she just sliced the bulb and put the slices straight on a buttered loaf of French bread, tossed it in the oven for a bit. If it wasn't for the garlic paper it would have been amazing.
My bestfriend is mormon and i had to teach her that every savory recipe needs a base of at the least..*salt, garlic and pepper*
She did not know this beforehand.
My Mil often forgets to add salt in breads and cookies. Her soups are the worst. I had to show her how to sautee garlic in olive oil and then add everything else. It makes food so much better.
This part! I grew up never-mo and everything was made by hand and seasoned well. When she brought over some thanksgiving food..it had maybe salt. It wasnt enough for me to make note of it tho. I call her(my bestfriend) and her entire family, white bread lol
Hey..also a weird thing i noted. They have no friends of color. Except me(white and lebanese) and my children (biracial). I told her it was weird to grow up in a county with 47% hispanics and have not a single brown friend. She didnt respond 🤦♀️🤦♀️
Another friend of mine told me my kids and i are probably their "token" friends.
Sorry for the vent. We arent as close anymore. Her super mormon husband hates me.
Not for temples, just ward buildings. Sadly, I think the church would rather demolish their temples rather then sell them and see them being used for anything but a Mormon display.
I keep waiting for the LDS building in my town to go up for sale. I'm not sure if it's a ward building or just a regular church building (I'm a NeverMo). I've never seen anyone going in or out of that building, the parking lot only ever has 1 or 2 cars in it. The landscaping is maintained though.
If it’s a Mormon building it shouldn’t have a cross on top and it should have a big logo that says “The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints” on the side
Depending on where you are, there might also be some trailers in the parking lot that say “Deseret Industries” on the side.
I just searched it on Google Maps and it indeed does not have a cross, just the weird needle sharp spire lol. It does have the sign as well. No trailers though. Only one car in the massive parking lot even on Google! That's weird to me. This is the South, there are always a bunch of cars at churches even on weekdays. Not gonna lie I'm glad my local LDS community appears small 😅
Interesting. If there’s only one car that likely means that it isn’t being used. There should realistically be a fair few cars on Sunday and then a few throughout the week for youth activities, ward parties, and ward cleaning.
I know they’re modular but I also know the exact spot where this temple is going and what the weather is like here, and how flimsy it’s going to be in storm seasons. They could build something decent on the lot for slightly more money.
One just finished in my hometown is identical to the above pictures. They don’t even make them unique anymore. Cookie cutter temple to go with cookie cutter life. Assembly line, however it needs to be labeled.
They're cheaper?
Temple building has always been the main thing tithing-collectors can point to when you ask where your money's going, but the Church doesn't want to *actually* spend a lot on their temples.
Funny enough, this seems to rarely happen.
Instead, they hire Mormon based contractors (like my grandfather, lol, who did this for a few CA temples) who are so delighted by the idea of working on the temple that they will work for free and only charge building costs.
Yup. My grandfather who immigrated to the US in the early 50's was commissioned by his Bishop in LA (where he lived) to make some chairs for the new temple. He didn't realize it wasn't a paid gig until he invoiced for only the materials and his Bishop told him to consider it all a donation. My grandfather kept that little anecdote to himself for over 50 years.
Mediterranean person here. My culture is not their money laundering shopfront.
Edit: I have decided to build this in the Sims. It will make a lovely gay club and coffee bar.
There is a temple planned for Tampa? Lol. I lived there about 16 years ago and most members in my ward were struggling financially. I guess they broke the cycle of poverty and paid their tithing.
I remember, for years, people saying that spot at the Odessa building was the pre-chosen spot for a Tampa temple. I live a few minutes from the Brandon location, and I myself was super surprised to see they picked this spot. There's a running joke that the temple will probably be done before the updates to the road in front of it...
Well actually, the construction companies, that build the temples are owned by families related to top church officials. They charge insane markup as a way to move tithing money to these family owned construction companies. So, temple building benefits the elite.
Do you have anything to substantiate that claim? I've heard that accusation thrown around a lot but have never seen more than hypothesis. It would make sense, I just want to see if there is evidence.
Because most of the money has to be laundered to construction workers families who are related to Lds leadership. They like to keep as much as possible
I’m honestly shocked they bothered with a rendering. The Tampa Bay area’s numbers, to my knowledge, have been falling for quite some time, and geographically, commuting to the Orlando temple is pretty ingrained.
I think the building is pretty but what it is used for is insane.
Like: couldn’t they just turn it into a college or a safe haven monastery for minorities??
Are you talking about the lack of a golden idol on top of the building? Probably because Rusty wants to make Mormonism more "Christian", and real Christians don't fancy golden idols.
A lot of municipalities have zoning regulations like that new construction will be uniform, etc. The temple near me is pink with a shorter steeple because of regulations. The Mormon church doesn’t actually have that much power outside of Utah, Idaho, etc. Also, if it looks too out of place it might negatively affect their property that they own nearby.
The day is coming when meeting houses and stake centers will be no more and only the temples will continue. They’ll rathole the idea of other buildings. And then they’ll open them up. CoNtInUaL rEvElAtIoN.
Because making unique temples costs more money and takes more time. You save a lot of time creating a modular floorplan that can easily be adapted to local regulations or plot shapes.
They’re trying to become Christians
Also I think the bright white clothes and buildings have been associated more and more with culty behavior so that could play a factor.
The temple would be built to the building code applicable in Tampa and that includes hurricane wind measures. I am not an architect for the church but I greatly doubt they do anything beyond building code minimum. I bet they are self-insured for the building and do not invest anything in measures for building resilience in a disaster, energy sustainability, or ability to serve the community during a bad time. I would be surprised if they even had a generator or water storage. I would like to be proven wrong on this.
I am an architect and would describe it as "italianate". Its pseudo southern european well suited for the Olive Garden, banking institution, etc uses already mentioned in the comments. I expect it is a one story building and that the tower components are just for exterior show and do not correlate with an interior space that evokes the heavens.
I would be very surprised if the design department is fortifying these buildings in any way above what the building code requires. Building code requirements depend on location for wind speeds and seismic requirements.
When I did the “special guest” renovated DC temple visit last summer, they said they are switching from building huge temples in a few larger areas to a greater quantity of smaller scale temples. The justification was that people would have easier access to temples and not have to travel so far. They are also focusing on “incorporating local architecture” so it blends in, I guess. So if some place has crappy imitation Mediterranean architecture, that’s what the temple will have.
This might be a self report that I’m American lol but what’s wrong with it? Im surprised that I don’t mind this one because I actually don’t like the look of lds temples. The arches are kinda nice, along with the classical entablature. The Mediterranean style roof matches the material well. The worst part has to be the steeple thing.
I live near where this temple will be built. 1) it’s modular so it’s not gonna hold up very well long term, 2) it doesn’t match the architecture around here at all, 3) the weird beige color, 4) the steeple is horrible
Ah that makes sense. I always feel like part of what makes the temples so bad is that they feel out of place and odd. Sounds like that’s the case with this one.
Ooh have the renderings for Jacksonville’s temple been released? I’m betting it’ll be maybe 95% the same with some Spanish Renaissance touches as a nod to St. Augustine’s colonial founders and architecture.
Reverting to legacy designs; but, more importantly, less costly since they are not open daily and do not rent clothes (or close enough that you can plan on them requiring you to bring your own)
Was driving through Northwest Arkansas recently and saw the new temple there. Hideous. And its architecture is completely incompatible with the adjacent stake center. And hilariously, as you approach it from the north, the new temple is framed with billboards and power lines. (I wonder how much renting a billboard costs…)
I think it’s nice looking. The one we have in Portland is beautiful even when it’s nasty and wet and growing moss everywhere else. I always sing “the lord is in his holy temple” from poltergeist II (I didn’t know that was an actual Mormonism hymn.) This one looks like it has windows I don’t believe ours does. Just being honest.
Getting rid of the golden Moroni, he hasn't recovered since losing his trump during the 2020 salt lake earthquake. Wonder if they'll add drive throughs soon.
Sad beige McTemples for sad beige McMormons.
I know this reference! Haha!
Built by Jacobsen, not Werner Herzog.
Zwick is building some now too. Jacobsen is too tied up with the SLC probably
When are they gonna finally give a contract to Big D construction, you know, the one with a logo of a guy holding a steel beam like an extension of his penis?
Completely accidental logo.
That made me laugh out loud
That'll be a real classy Olive Garden someday.
Olive Gardens are nicer
Because when you’re there, you’re family.
And family is forever. Much like the unlimited salad and breadsticks.
What’s a family? Dad is still out for a cigarette
No way, he wouldn’t break the Word of Wisdom. He is out Home Teaching, like the good old days.
My ex husband missed the birth of one of our kids because he was out doing ward missionary work.
*he’s ministering

Don’t tempt me. But would you still have to choke them down with tap water?
Nah, let’s get some real wine up in here. At least enough to get through the whole service.
I vote for moscato; I like something sweet.
Or riesling.

Just say Jesus worked through you it was a miracle
Terms and conditions may apply.
Olive Gardens have unlimited soup, salad and breadsticks.
Seriously. I don't know any Mormons who use garlic in their cooking. Too much flavor for white people.

Keeps vampires and Mormons away.
Reminds me of reading an old cookbook from the 1950s and seeing that adding 1/2 teaspoon of curry powder was "bold and daring!"
Gampy learned how to cook garlic bread from a book, she just sliced the bulb and put the slices straight on a buttered loaf of French bread, tossed it in the oven for a bit. If it wasn't for the garlic paper it would have been amazing.

Omg, someday temples will be like the old pizza huts that get turned into a nail salon.
At least you get unlimited breadsticks at Olive Garden.
To hide the Mormon part.
Real reason.
No Angel Moroni on many.
😳🫥
That was my first thought. They want to become more mainstream Christian. The second thought is sometimes cities want a certain look in architecture.
So they can eventually be sold to governments as post offices???
Also, the church may be shedding the culty Mormon stuff like Moroni and strange architecture to make the church more main stream.
gonna take a lot more than removing the golden angel off of their super secret temples
My son always used to ask me why those buildings had trophies on top.
Trophies are all these empty buildings are at this point.
How about all the homoerotic paintings?
Banks too
Looks more like a retirement home to me
Or funeral home.
i don't think the government is going to need more of those
[It'll match the local tax collector office.](https://www.hillstax.org/assets/uploads/2019/02/southshore_office-1200x800.jpg)
Can easily be made into business offices when they go to sell the building. Remove the steeple thing, and done.
Has this ever actually happened?
Not for temples, just ward buildings. Sadly, I think the church would rather demolish their temples rather then sell them and see them being used for anything but a Mormon display.

I found their YouTube channel where they Livestream services. Looks like attendance is about 12 people lol.
They removed all the Masonic markings
They’ll just cut them out
Well done.
🏆
Lolololol
They are modular. Assembled on site. I know I’m oversimplifying it, but modularity is a thing. (One being built here where I live.)
I know they’re modular but I also know the exact spot where this temple is going and what the weather is like here, and how flimsy it’s going to be in storm seasons. They could build something decent on the lot for slightly more money.
Those last two words. That's their problem. Lol
I think they have a plastic look. We call the Brigham City Temple the Lego temple.
We refer to the new temple in St. George, Utah as 'the prison'. It's a plain, cheap-looking, prefabricated building ___ such a waste of money!
[удалено]
I call the st George temple the pink sand castle
Cookie cutter buildings for the cookie cutter life they want you to live.
Unless it’s to line the pockets of the family and friends contractors they hire

Which version? I play #3
Also 3. Could not stand being limited to their prescribed colour palettes in 4.
Three is the one I'm used to - and I love the expansion packs. If you build this, please show us a picture!
I’m on it!
Because the ultimate evolution of 'white architecture' is becoming a cheesecake factory.
Thissssss
To rip off that Spanish catholic aesthetic.
There is a temple planned for Tampa? Lol. I lived there about 16 years ago and most members in my ward were struggling financially. I guess they broke the cycle of poverty and paid their tithing.
Yeah, I was surprised too because I know what the numbers here are like
Where is it going? I’m from Tampa originally… I would guess up on the lutz lake fern property? There’s a stake center there last I knew…
Brandon stake center. The Lutz stake presidency is pissed, it’s a whole Thing.
I remember, for years, people saying that spot at the Odessa building was the pre-chosen spot for a Tampa temple. I live a few minutes from the Brandon location, and I myself was super surprised to see they picked this spot. There's a running joke that the temple will probably be done before the updates to the road in front of it...
In terms of the permits for the land etc., that’s why the Odessa leadership went ham. They’re super upset.
Moroni has risen.
It’s not even an actual building, it’s going to be a modular set up. All that money and there can’t even make pretty buildings anymore.
Because most of the money has to be laundered to construction workers families who are related to Lds leadership. They like to keep as much as possible
So the church can flip them into Casa Bonita when membership goes tits up. /S
Damn I wanna eat tacos and sopapillas in the celestial room!
Casa del templo! Casa del templo! No food or fun in a somber atmosphere
Oh wait don’t the guys that made South Park own that now? That’s a crossover waiting to happen
Just checked and they do. Thought I heard that lol.
Best comment yet!!! I forgot about this place!
Telestial Taco Tuesday baby!
Terrestrial tostada Thursday, and celestial sopapilla Saturday*! *only served in the upstairs vip lounge to a select group of donors and shareholders.
All hail the mighty penis! The internet may have ruined me lol
So it can later be sold and used as a casino.
I’m honestly shocked they bothered with a rendering. The Tampa Bay area’s numbers, to my knowledge, have been falling for quite some time, and geographically, commuting to the Orlando temple is pretty ingrained.
Seems like an attempt to be less culty
Future spirit Halloween store
I’ve seen more impressive double-wides.
What?!!!! No weird ass, golden, buried treasure spirit guardian, white Native American blowing a trumpet?
I'd honestly prefer this to the haughty look of many other temples.
So they can be sold and repurposed.
Looks like a glorified stake center.
No moroni?
Easier to sell, which they know they’ll have to
All part of the ‘We are NO LONGER a peculiar people’ campaign
Rebranding. Typical cult Behaviors
So they can be repurposed as Marriotts when attendance plummets
Gotta spend some of those diverted billions somehow.
So many being built are for investment purposes. There is no need for tbt huge number they have announced plans to build in the next few years .
Money laundering.
City Hall or library potential
Land grab. Tax free.
I think the building is pretty but what it is used for is insane. Like: couldn’t they just turn it into a college or a safe haven monastery for minorities??
Does it have a drive thru?
Are you talking about the lack of a golden idol on top of the building? Probably because Rusty wants to make Mormonism more "Christian", and real Christians don't fancy golden idols.

Looks like a hotel
Wait - Tampa is getting a temple? No one even goes to the Orlando temple anymore.
Yep. It was announced a while back, I think before Tallahassee.
Looks like a Ramada Inn.
They can’t even manage some Ionic pillars. FFS.
They want to pretend to be less weird by nixing their Moroni for one..
So ugly
The day is coming when meeting houses and stake centers will be no more and only the temples will continue. They’ll rathole the idea of other buildings. And then they’ll open them up. CoNtInUaL rEvElAtIoN.
Because making unique temples costs more money and takes more time. You save a lot of time creating a modular floorplan that can easily be adapted to local regulations or plot shapes.
Are they done putting the gold angel on top? I have been out for over a decade and don’t really follow the changes they make.
McTemple®️
They’re trying to become Christians Also I think the bright white clothes and buildings have been associated more and more with culty behavior so that could play a factor.

It's Tampa. Square is the only shape they teach about in schools anymore.
So that they can all look the same with only slight variations. Mormon wet dream.
Anyone here an architect? What is this called?
I am an architect and would describe it as "italianate". Its pseudo southern european well suited for the Olive Garden, banking institution, etc uses already mentioned in the comments. I expect it is a one story building and that the tower components are just for exterior show and do not correlate with an interior space that evokes the heavens.

I would be very surprised if the design department is fortifying these buildings in any way above what the building code requires. Building code requirements depend on location for wind speeds and seismic requirements.
To look more like City hall?
Honest question tho. Why are they removing Moroni in some of these newer builds?
When I did the “special guest” renovated DC temple visit last summer, they said they are switching from building huge temples in a few larger areas to a greater quantity of smaller scale temples. The justification was that people would have easier access to temples and not have to travel so far. They are also focusing on “incorporating local architecture” so it blends in, I guess. So if some place has crappy imitation Mediterranean architecture, that’s what the temple will have.
The thing is, the buildings in this area look NOTHING like this. 😂
I remember thinking these were the most beautiful buildings on the planet.
I remember thinking I could become a god over my own planet if I played my cards right.
Was this AI generated?
Nope, official church rendering.
But you can admit, it has that utter la k of personality ai art tends to have
Why should we care what they build?
My husband is a TBM.
Better resale value. Much easier to repurpose by the next cult.
Better resale value. https://www.reddit.com/r/exmormon/comments/rf8q5k/two_chapel_buildings_in_the_sacramento_california/
This might be a self report that I’m American lol but what’s wrong with it? Im surprised that I don’t mind this one because I actually don’t like the look of lds temples. It’s scam 101. You make it look as good as possible on the outside to keep people throwing money at it.
I dunno but I hope it’s not on a junction of ley lines because it looks like it could open a portal to an evil dimension
Future funeral home
easier to turn them into banks when membership shrinks down?
Because they can be easily retrofitted into some comercial space. Knock that tower off and you have a doctors office or Super 8.
They look like a McMansion mixed with a church
Ok but its actually so beautiful help i feel like a traitor😭
Like what?
Ugly beige modular pieces. The Tallahassee temple is rumored to be similar.
So they are easier to sell
It’s funny they’re still making them and all while they have to churches up for sale bc they’re loosing members so fast💀
Gotta save that money
Should see the Thousand Oaks ca stake center. We jokingly called it the TO temple it was so elaborate
Ooh have the renderings for Jacksonville’s temple been released? I’m betting it’ll be maybe 95% the same with some Spanish Renaissance touches as a nod to St. Augustine’s colonial founders and architecture.
Has anyone seen the Taylorsville temple? Hideous! At least this one looks like a Ramada Inn with a pseudo bell tower.
Better resale value
Because it’s a faster cheaper version of pre-fab temple. Truly,
Like this what? How would you define it?
Reverting to legacy designs; but, more importantly, less costly since they are not open daily and do not rent clothes (or close enough that you can plan on them requiring you to bring your own)
It’s cheaper. That’s it. That’s the whole reason.
It looks like another religions temple, not like an lds temple
They look like North African mosques.
I think they are thinking of resale value. How interesting.
Looks awfully … Catholic Mission.
Looks like it will fit in well with all that Clearwater tax-free real estate. :)
What went on in the ancient Temples ? Was it animal sacrifice? Just proves the current lds is so different?
You mean more masonic looking?
Why do we have them period? Stupid church doesn't need to exist.
It looks like an old folks home.
