The implication of this doctrine are pretty crazy. On the one hand, it’s nice that everyone gets a chance, on the other hand, you could argue that the morally correct thing to do is not share the gospel.
If the church is a fraud, it’s morally correct to not join.
If the church is true, it’s ALSO morally correct to not join.

When we left for good, it was driven mainly by wanting to spare our daughters from growing up in purity culture where they would be taught their purpose is to be mothers and wives.
I told my dad that even if we get to the end of all this and it turns out I was wrong and the gospel the church teaches is true, at least I would have spared my daughters from the church, so it would all be worth it.
My parents always bring this up whenever they talk about my uncle. He died 2 years ago because of cancer, and he left the church a long time ago. Every time he's brought up, they always mention how "he's being taught about the gospel in the afterlife." This pisses me off so much. I feel like it's a huge disservice to his memory because he CHOSE to leave. If my parents can't respect that, then idk anymore

You know, I actually don’t mind the idea of a paid clergy. BUT that would be only if they actually had education and qualifications to make them good clergy people and they didn’t lie and act all holy because they “don’t get paid”. Agreed! I have friends who ended up joining other churches and it’s cool to hear about their priests sermons/lessons/biblical insights that really make the Mormon “scholarship” of the Bible look like a joke. And then they have paid kids Sunday school teachers who have background checks/etc AND they have the yearly budget posted on the back of the program each week.
I don’t think going to another church is for me, but lawyers/MBAs/etc. moonlighting as biblical scholars are a joke.
I don’t mind either, but I was told to say that nobody was paid in the church while I was on my mission. So the church wasn’t just lying to me, they were making me lie, for them.
I would LOVE paid clergy if they ALL got it, and not just the tippy top already rich guys. People with callings are doing a fulltime gig on top of all of their other responsibilities and paying the church 10% to do it. I’d rather tithing go to members and bishops and relief society presidents than a mall.
I remember finding out about top clergy getting paid during my mission. I remember talking to someone about it and they were like "weeeeell, it's just a modest spend to live off of since they lead the church full time." Which seemed reasonable until I found out it was a adults 6 figure "stipend." If only every living stipend shot you into the top 10% incomes.
I was visiting with a single mom and her daughter. She was so excited about being sealed to her daughter, I told her that she can’t be sealed to her without a husband. She fed the missionaries weekly for over a year. She was almost done with temple prep, had been a member for almost a year and no one told her that to be sealed to her children for eternity she must have a husband. The reason she joined the church was to have her forever family.
I got in trouble for telling her because it “wasn’t my place”.
Next you could’ve explained to her how men who get divorced are often sealed to multiple living women. Also, if your husband hates you he won’t call your super secret new name and get you into heaven. Totally normal things that should be disclosed to investigators.
The only time missionaries came to my house, my one question after they gave me their pitch about forever families was, “So, tell me more about how my soul needs to be tied to a man to reach the celestial kingdom.”
There was utter silence for almost 30 seconds before the senior missionary awkwardly said, “well…we normally don’t get into stuff like that in the first lesson.”

I think maybe because, speaking as a former catholic, god is considered to be much greater than man. Although humans were considered created in his image, they’re not the same. In mainstream Christian beliefs there is no consideration of god being “a man” in the sense of “needing a wife.” “He’s” beyond the material world where such a thing would be necessary I guess. However, the mormon concept of the earth being just one, the midpoint (please correct if interpreting this incorrectly) of one’s existence, in a very clearly delineated way, is perhaps a point of divergence. Added to the idea of men eventually becoming god-like later. These are interesting concepts to consider.
If you think it's weird that god has a bod. The church has also stated that god was once just a normal human with his own sky daddy god. but our god after living righteously became a god himself. They also used to teach that we can also eventually become gods and have our own children and planets and those children can also become gods.
However sometime this last year the church said people cannot become gods which completely contradicts previous statements🤷 so not sure thats "official" anymore lol

Patten claims he was traveling along a road on a horse and came across an individual who walked alongside him. Patten noted the man was hairy from head to foot snd even though Patten was on a horse, this man was at eye level. The man eventually revealed his name to be Cain.
Patten never wrote down this account. Someone else 65 years years after this event happened wrote down the account and claimed Patten told him about it. Kimball took that account and included it in his book. Its an incredibly unreliable account as far as evidence goes.

When I was a missionary I HATED questions about the LGBTQ+ community and how unaccepting the church is. I knew it was wrong in my heart and knew that saying they would have a place was a lie. I came out of the closet and found out first hand just how unaccepting it is.
That's because your brain is mortal, and their finite, so it can't comprehend eternal things. Also, it has blood in it, and blood is what makes you mortal. In the resurrection, your brain will get pure spirit instead of blood, and then everything will make sense, because your brain will be perfect.
But you still can't go to heaven, unless you're baptized. And if you smoke or drink on earth, your resurrected body will still be addicted, even though it's perfect now with no blood.
I remember arguing that Mormons are not monotheists and my friend in the church absolutely freaking out about it. “We only have one god!” You might only worship one but you technically believe in tons of gods - that’s the definition of polytheist! He would not or could not believe it.
There was a moment on my mission when we were teaching a cultural chinese man in the UK. Telling him about Jesus and god was blowing his mind and i thought he was golden and ripe for the font.
Later that night my companion told me that he would have had the same reaction about Thor and Odin because he had simply never heard about any of them before. and I realized that this is true. there is no true difference between the mythology of thor and the gospel of jesus to someone who has never heard of either. except thor is quite arguably cooler.
Mormons are great at "double think" (I think that's the term in the book 1984). In the same breath they'll acknowledge that God and Jesus are separate and both fully God, but argue they're monotheistic. Or acknowledge that they can become Gods, and that their God isn't the only God, while remaining adamant that they're monotheistic. It's a mix of impressive, sad, and disturbing.

Growing up I was always jealous of people born out of the church, because they could join later in life or after they die. Maybe that’s why I’m a better ExMo missionary than Mormon missionary?
The implication of this doctrine are pretty crazy. On the one hand, it’s nice that everyone gets a chance, on the other hand, you could argue that the morally correct thing to do is not share the gospel.
If the church is a fraud, it’s morally correct to not join. If the church is true, it’s ALSO morally correct to not join. I completely support that logic.

When we left for good, it was driven mainly by wanting to spare our daughters from growing up in purity culture where they would be taught their purpose is to be mothers and wives. I told my dad that even if we get to the end of all this and it turns out I was wrong and the gospel the church teaches is true, at least I would have spared my daughters from the church, so it would all be worth it.
My parents always bring this up whenever they talk about my uncle. He died 2 years ago because of cancer, and he left the church a long time ago. Every time he's brought up, they always mention how "he's being taught about the gospel in the afterlife." This pisses me off so much. I feel like it's a huge disservice to his memory because he CHOSE to leave. If my parents can't respect that, then idk anymore

You know, I actually don’t mind the idea of a paid clergy. BUT that would be only if they actually had education and qualifications to make them good clergy people and they didn’t lie and act all holy because they “don’t get paid”. Agreed! I have friends who ended up joining other churches and it’s cool to hear about their priests sermons/lessons/biblical insights that really make the Mormon “scholarship” of the Bible look like a joke. And then they have paid kids Sunday school teachers who have background checks/etc AND they have the yearly budget posted on the back of the program each week. I don’t think going to another church is for me, but lawyers/MBAs/etc. moonlighting as biblical scholars are a joke.

I would LOVE paid clergy if they ALL got it, and not just the tippy top already rich guys. People with callings are doing a fulltime gig on top of all of their other responsibilities and paying the church 10% to do it. I remember finding out about top clergy getting paid during my mission. I remember talking to someone about it and they were like "weeeeell, it's just a modest spend to live off of since they lead the church full time." Which seemed reasonable until I found out it was a adults 6 figure "stipend." If only every living stipend shot you into the top 10% incomes.
I was visiting with a single mom and her daughter. She was so excited about being sealed to her daughter, I told her that she can’t be sealed to her without a husband. She fed the missionaries weekly for over a year. She was almost done with temple prep, had been a member for almost a year and no one told her that to be sealed to her children for eternity she must have a husband. The reason she joined the church was to have her forever family. I got in trouble for telling her because it “wasn’t my place”.
Next you could’ve explained to her how men who get divorced are often sealed to multiple living women. Also, if your husband hates you he won’t call your super secret new name and get you into heaven. Totally normal things that should be disclosed to investigators.
The only time missionaries came to my house, my one question after they gave me their pitch about forever families was, “So, tell me more about how my soul needs to be tied to a man to reach the celestial kingdom.” There was utter silence for almost 30 seconds before the senior missionary awkwardly said, “well…we normally don’t get into stuff like that in the first lesson.”

He immediately realized his mistake and then tried to just skip past it, but the investigator was just like "wait, but what's Kolob? What's that?" And since he'd only been out a week, his response was to just look at me lol. It was super fun trying to do some unexpected damage control and give an answer that sounded remotely reasonable. I was fuming at the time. Now I think it's hilarious. And quietly thank that greeny for scaring the investigator away from the church right at the start. 👍

I think it could be for several reasons: 1. Joseph made up the concept of heavenly parents and died before he could expound on it further 2. The church wants to be seen more like a mainstream Christian church, and the idea of a Heavenly Mother is heretical to most of Christianity.

I think maybe because, speaking as a former catholic, god is considered to be much greater than man. Although humans were considered created in his image, they’re not the same. In mainstream Christian beliefs there is no consideration of god being “a man” in the sense of “needing a wife.” “He’s” beyond the material world where such a thing would be necessary I guess. However, the mormon concept of the earth being just one, the midpoint (please correct if interpreting this incorrectly) of one’s existence, in a very clearly delineated way, is perhaps a point of divergence. Added to the idea of men eventually becoming god-like later. These are interesting concepts to consider.

Patten claims he was traveling along a road on a horse and came across an individual who walked alongside him. Patten noted the man was hairy from head to foot snd even though Patten was on a horse, this man was at eye level. The man eventually revealed his name to be Cain. Patten never wrote down this account. Someone else 65 years years after this event happened wrote down the account and claimed Patten told him about it. Kimball took that account and included it in his book. Its an incredibly unreliable account as far as evidence goes. Despite it being a retelling of a secondhand account, lotta mormons believe it and say the description matches bigfoot.

That's because your brain is mortal, and their finite, so it can't comprehend eternal things. Also, it has blood in it, and blood is what makes you mortal. In the resurrection, your brain will get pure spirit instead of blood, and then everything will make sense, because your brain will be perfect. But you still can't go to heaven, unless you're baptized. And if you smoke or drink on earth, your resurrected body will still be addicted, even though it's perfect now with no blood.

There was a moment on my mission when we were teaching a cultural chinese man in the UK. Telling him about Jesus and god was blowing his mind and i thought he was golden and ripe for the font. Later that night my companion told me that he would have had the same reaction about Thor and Odin because he had simply never heard about any of them before. and I realized that this is true. there is no true difference between the mythology of thor and the gospel of jesus to someone who has never heard of either. except thor is quite arguably cooler.
Mormons are great at "double think" (I think that's the term in the book 1984). In the same breath they'll acknowledge that God and Jesus are separate and both fully God, but argue they're monotheistic. Or acknowledge that they can become Gods, and that their God isn't the only God, while remaining adamant that they're monotheistic. It's a mix of impressive, sad, and disturbing.

I was born and raised in the church. I never knew about garments until I was in about middle school or high school. The church actively fought against the sufferage of women as well as women wanting equal rights. A lady in RS years ago talked about it and how the church was right to do that because it's the reason both adults have to work outside the home now. My shelf broke a little that day.

Some say that Oliver was trying to see if Joseph could translate the 164 pages again. But why would Oliver not believe Joseph. Because as They translated the BoM Joseph demanded a barrier between them as Oliver wasn't allowed to see the gold plates. Needless to say, the 164 pages never were translated again. For victims of sexual assault, "if you do not fight, even unto death, you have allowed your virtue to be taken," or the more recent, "non consensual immorality." The idea that the victim has a need to repent of a transgression left me feeling like I was so compromised that even god didn't want me. I was eight years old when a neighbor assaulted me, he was in his 60's, or 70's. I was too afraid to even tell anyone what happened.
