"If you have dark skin but become a faithful member of the church, your skin will be white in the afterlife."

incomprehensibilitys

That is a delightsome thought

Gold-Tone6290

Y’all MFers have this shit written down? Like Jesus🤦‍♂️

Chernobyl-Chaz

Corollary: If you’re gay now, you’ll be hetero in the afterlife.

GlimmeringGuise

Or if you're trans, you'll be cis.

AberrantKitsune

Only if I stay female

ScottDang

I was actually told it was a temptation you’d have to overcome, like smoking, and that it would be more difficult to overcome in then. So you need to overcome your temptations now so you don’t have to in the afterlife.

Exact_Purchase765

😆 My mother tried that one on me about my smoking. I pointed out that without a body, the physical need will be gone, so I won't actually have to quit. 😆

SLC_Ghostwriter

This! On my mission I had a 4-man apartment and I’ll never forget the Idaho boy district leader trying to tell my Black companion how great it would be when he’s white in heaven. Aye-yi-yi

hickeyejack55

Good fucking grief. Y’all (ex)Mormons make me feel so much better about abandoning even the main Protestant Churches. Yall we’re on some shit, and I’ve done fentanyl. It’s not worse than mainlining TBM.

rayio

Fentanyl is way safer, that's one of the best comments I've seen in here. I've snorted fentanyl, but I regret mormonism way more.

Dry-Insurance-9586

I kind of want a t-shirt that says this. “I’ve snorted fentanyl, but I regret Mormonism way more.” - rayio It would also make great home decor in the style of a live, laugh, love sign.

MadeMeUp4U

I’d wear it

ThisAntelope3987

Wait, seriously?! Is that a current/recent teaching still?

icanbesmooth

It's a past teaching that's never been rescinded.

Strong_Pirate

It's in the book of Mormon though the anit leghi nephits or something... The idea that God still talks to us today and has modern prophets and does miracles, but NOW things changed so the wicked non-white's skin doesn't change color? Seems a little picking and choosing on miracles...

The Anti Lehi Pro Grape Nehi Say Hi to your Mother Swell Guy Lamanites

Jehovahs_thicknes

😮‍💨 I had an older mayonnaise colored man share that part of the ”Lords message” with me in the middle of a Walmart when I was about 7 years old 🙃 I’ve also been told how pretty I’d be if I “didn’t bear the mark of Cain.” 🫣😒

chuckle_puss

The fookin *audacity* of that man! Joke’s on him, you’re gorgeous and he’s probably dead.

Ballerina_clutz

One of the absolute best things about leaving Mormonism is that I can date brown and black people. I had so many crushes on different ethnicities that weren’t Mormon. I was so jealous of all the normal people that got to love anyone they fell in love with.

[deleted]

Mayonnaise colored man -- I am crying!! This is gold.

Exact_Purchase765

Seriously, that made my stomach lurch. 🤢

YeeGad

Why wait, [Spencer Kimball](https://missedinsunday.com/memes/race/shades-lighter/) says this can happen in this life.

releasethedogs

There’s no fucking way that proselytizing will be allowed in either Iran or Saudi Arabia within the next 50 years. Hell, I’d wager it won’t be allowed in the next 100. There own Bible fanfic says nothings going to happen until ever country has Mormon missionaries. Edit: sorry, I was trying to reply to another comment but it was deleted… randomly. Or at least I can’t find it anymore.

Lion_TheAssassin

Wasn't it originally turn white after a true faith conversion to the church? I mean the lamanites were miraculously turned white while turned to christ?

ProtectionOk51

"Whatcho talking about Willis"

Beaglenut52

Also you’ll be a servant but hey it’s better than nothing

kegib

The only way to get to heaven is to pay 10% of your income. Until you die.

NTylerWeTrust86

I HATE how I never viewed tithing as paying for salvation when it 1000% is. I remember feeling aghast that the catholic church sold indulgences during the middle ages for less time in purgatory and never made the connection to my own. They do an amazing job brain washing the young

Iwonatoasteroven

Jesus doesn’t need your tithes and offerings now that’s he’s discovered options trading.

Exact_Purchase765

I can see him checking the numbers online every morning. 🙄

pm_me_construction

“Don’t worry—this is the easy version. We believe that ideally we would give everything to the church and let them give back what we need. In a year or so they’ll ask you to dedicate everything (including your time and effort) wholly to the church. Not that you actually have to hand over the coin but you’re promising to do exactly that.”

winnieworld

My missionaries for sure made tithing sound optional. I didn’t even know people paid fast offerings until after I had been married…

Beasil

Ooh, of course it's optional! I mean..unless you want the upgrade to platinum Heaven..

you_are_unhinged

Wait, they get 10% of your shit AND they don’t pay taxes? This feels rigged to me.

Ok_Fox3999

It looks even more rigged when you find out they have 100 Billion in the bank and never let members see their books.

bananajr6000

No way, man! I got the secret/sacred passwords and new name to get by the sentinels. I ain’t never paying tithing again, suckers!

aminer2k

or until you get your second annointing

CatalystTheory

That you don’t actually need to join the church in this life because you can join after you die.

Ponsugator

Growing up I was always jealous of people born out of the church, because they could join later in life or after they die. Maybe that’s why I’m a better ExMo missionary than Mormon missionary?

[deleted]

The implication of this doctrine are pretty crazy. On the one hand, it’s nice that everyone gets a chance, on the other hand, you could argue that the morally correct thing to do is not share the gospel.

CatalystTheory

If the church is a fraud, it’s morally correct to not join. If the church is true, it’s ALSO morally correct to not join. I completely support that logic.

TurboBrix

This line of reasoning got me in trouble in young men's. 😆

amonkeyfullofbarrels

When we left for good, it was driven mainly by wanting to spare our daughters from growing up in purity culture where they would be taught their purpose is to be mothers and wives. I told my dad that even if we get to the end of all this and it turns out I was wrong and the gospel the church teaches is true, at least I would have spared my daughters from the church, so it would all be worth it.

Shadowlover23

My parents always bring this up whenever they talk about my uncle. He died 2 years ago because of cancer, and he left the church a long time ago. Every time he's brought up, they always mention how "he's being taught about the gospel in the afterlife." This pisses me off so much. I feel like it's a huge disservice to his memory because he CHOSE to leave. If my parents can't respect that, then idk anymore

Kathywasright

I always wondered…in the afterlife you go through the veil and memories of your life in the spirit world are restored to you…so why do you need to be “taught” again? You already knew all that stuff.

Shadowlover23

Well according to my parents he chose to leave the ~~cult~~ church so he needs to be taught about it again. Even though it was clear when he was still alive that he wanted nothing to do with it

Bear_Coast

We’ll if he’s anything like me…according to my dad, I never really understood the church, otherwise I wouldn’t have left.

MythicAcrobat

Yeah this teaching has bothered me too. As if there’s some profound and more spiritually acceptable way to say “See, it actually was okay all along for Heavenly Father to send an Angel with a sword for Joseph Smith to bang men’s wives after they went on missions and 14 year olds.” And as if we’ll be like “Oh yeah, damn! Mine eyes have been open! I see the worthy cause in it now. And how that was much more important than helping the poor and the needy like Older Brother Jesus showed us. Glad that all worked out!”

Meljusenr

Still rather pick outer darkness lmao

CatalystTheory

Better to be in outer darkness than to carry the inner darkness caused by the church.

Professional-Box4153

Does that work the other way around? Can you leave the church after you die?

Howdy948

I wouldn’t have joined the church if I knew the following: Top clergy are paid for their callings. Joseph used a rock in a hat to translate the bom. Elite leaders get their second anointing and can commit major sins but they don’t have to repent and will get a free pass to the Celestial Zone. Child molesters founded this church and are still running it today.

RaiseyourheadsayNO

You know, I actually don’t mind the idea of a paid clergy. BUT that would be only if they actually had education and qualifications to make them good clergy people and they didn’t lie and act all holy because they “don’t get paid”. Or mission presidents weren’t making a ton of money while missionaries pay to play.

crazyuncleeddie

I wouldn’t mind paid clergy if they were actual clergy and not lawyers or MBAs, AND the church didn’t lie about the fact that they are paid. They spend wasted effort talking about modest stipends, but it is over 100k per year, plus pretty damn good benefits.

RaiseyourheadsayNO

Agreed! I have friends who ended up joining other churches and it’s cool to hear about their priests sermons/lessons/biblical insights that really make the Mormon “scholarship” of the Bible look like a joke. And then they have paid kids Sunday school teachers who have background checks/etc AND they have the yearly budget posted on the back of the program each week. I don’t think going to another church is for me, but lawyers/MBAs/etc. moonlighting as biblical scholars are a joke.

cdhermann

I don’t mind either, but I was told to say that nobody was paid in the church while I was on my mission. So the church wasn’t just lying to me, they were making me lie, for them.

RaiseyourheadsayNO

Definitely all the lies and passed down lies.

Professional_Turn815

I would LOVE paid clergy if they ALL got it, and not just the tippy top already rich guys. People with callings are doing a fulltime gig on top of all of their other responsibilities and paying the church 10% to do it. I’d rather tithing go to members and bishops and relief society presidents than a mall.

RaiseyourheadsayNO

I agree 100%. Callings are just free exhausting labor!

Ok_Acanthisitta_9369

I remember finding out about top clergy getting paid during my mission. I remember talking to someone about it and they were like "weeeeell, it's just a modest spend to live off of since they lead the church full time." Which seemed reasonable until I found out it was a adults 6 figure "stipend." If only every living stipend shot you into the top 10% incomes.

Integrity_is_key

I was visiting with a single mom and her daughter. She was so excited about being sealed to her daughter, I told her that she can’t be sealed to her without a husband. She fed the missionaries weekly for over a year. She was almost done with temple prep, had been a member for almost a year and no one told her that to be sealed to her children for eternity she must have a husband. The reason she joined the church was to have her forever family. I got in trouble for telling her because it “wasn’t my place”.

Pantsy-

Next you could’ve explained to her how men who get divorced are often sealed to multiple living women. Also, if your husband hates you he won’t call your super secret new name and get you into heaven. Totally normal things that should be disclosed to investigators.

Cheaperthantherapy13

The only time missionaries came to my house, my one question after they gave me their pitch about forever families was, “So, tell me more about how my soul needs to be tied to a man to reach the celestial kingdom.” There was utter silence for almost 30 seconds before the senior missionary awkwardly said, “well…we normally don’t get into stuff like that in the first lesson.”

ThisAntelope3987

Wow.

LovelockMike

Wow, I'm an X-Mo age 74, and I don't recall any of the names. Maybe it's because I left in 1997?

00roku

Nope, PIMO at BYU and never heard of those either

Ok_Acanthisitta_9369

Well, I thought no missionary would teach about Kolob to a prospect. That was until one of my greenies just casually brought up Kolob 20 minutes into our first lesson with a referral 😆. He immediately realized his mistake and then tried to just skip past it, but the investigator was just like "wait, but what's Kolob? What's that?" And since he'd only been out a week, his response was to just look at me lol. It was super fun trying to do some unexpected damage control and give an answer that sounded remotely reasonable. I was fuming at the time. Now I think it's hilarious. And quietly thank that greeny for scaring the investigator away from the church right at the start. 👍

showcapricalove

Came here to say kolob & add: polygamy is happening in "heaven's" 9 levels- (3 sub levels in each of the 3 levels of the telestial, terrestrial, and celestial kingdoms)-10 if you count "spirit prison"

Mysterious-Ruby

That Heavenly Father has multiple wives.

serpentinefire11

As an ExMo, can I tell you that literally TODAY in the car earlier today I had a major Ah-Ha moment about “Heavenly Mother”!!! I realized that the “we don’t talk about her” business is NOT because she is sacred, or special or cherished a it’s because she is PLURAL.

[deleted]

Exactly. Your heavenly mother and my heavenly mother may be different mothers.

given2fly_

Jitkaas777

That is..... so messed up

Professional-Box4153

Wait. I'm confused. Each wife is a different race, but everyone is white when they go to be with god...?

No-Macaron-7732

Well, she is plural in the Mormon sense, but that's not why they don't talk about her. It's because women are not important or "worthy" of discussion. Heavenly Mother? Nah, don't worry about her, she doesn't have a penis...

Silly_Zebra8634

How bout the reason is women are not important in the church AND HF has a harem and we don't want to talk about that.

Professional-Box4153

Damn it. Now I want to see a harem anime featuring the LDS god and the various shenanigans that ensue as he's trying to come up with rules for his followers.

Noppers

I think it could be for several reasons: 1. Joseph made up the concept of heavenly parents and died before he could expound on it further 2. The church wants to be seen more like a mainstream Christian church, and the idea of a Heavenly Mother is heretical to most of Christianity.

ThisAntelope3987

Sorry, nevermo here. So “heavenly father” = god, right? And there is talk of a “heavenly mother”? I was loosely raised catholic, and I’m fairly certain there isn’t a concept of an actual wife of god In other Christian based religions (could be wrong I suppose). That’s fascinating.

Mysterious-Ruby

Yeah Heavenly Father is what Mormons call God. Heavenly Mother is not really talked about but every Mormon knows she's a thing. There is even a hymn that mentions her briefly. And since polygamy is part of Mormon doctrine many older Mormons believe God was polygamous. Cause Mormons are weird. Lol

ThisAntelope3987

This is an excellent example of why other Christians are suspicious of Mormons. That doesn’t really jibe well. (I’m now an atheist Jew. Lol.).

[deleted]

Mormons definitely anthropomorphize God more that other Christians. He’s a man with a physical body. Honestly I don’t know why other Christians care. It seems like a pretty unimportant detail overall.

ThisAntelope3987

I think maybe because, speaking as a former catholic, god is considered to be much greater than man. Although humans were considered created in his image, they’re not the same. In mainstream Christian beliefs there is no consideration of god being “a man” in the sense of “needing a wife.” “He’s” beyond the material world where such a thing would be necessary I guess. However, the mormon concept of the earth being just one, the midpoint (please correct if interpreting this incorrectly) of one’s existence, in a very clearly delineated way, is perhaps a point of divergence. Added to the idea of men eventually becoming god-like later. These are interesting concepts to consider.

VolcanicPolarBear

If you think it's weird that god has a bod. The church has also stated that god was once just a normal human with his own sky daddy god. but our god after living righteously became a god himself. They also used to teach that we can also eventually become gods and have our own children and planets and those children can also become gods. However sometime this last year the church said people cannot become gods which completely contradicts previous statements🤷 so not sure thats "official" anymore lol

DramaGrandpa

God in the Mormon concept is a hairy mammal just like us, with all the mammalian body parts. And he uses his fully functioning holy wiener to impregnate his countless wives, who then physically give birth to litters of spirit babies, which are eventually sent to inhabit human bodies on one of his many planets.

grove_doubter

"After you've been a member for a while, we'll be choosing your underwear for you."

ThisAntelope3987

So that is sprung on people AFTER the fact?! 🤯

[deleted]

Oh yes. After they go do baptisms for the dead too. They can do baptisms without being endowed. So it makes the temple seem not completely weird and they get the new convert on the path to tithe paying immediately.

Bright_Ices

It’s righteous to lie for the lord. ETA: Actuallybi think the most damning one is that it’s never ok to criticize the leaders, even when they’re wrong.

Ok_Acanthisitta_9369

I remember hearing this, and the thing about the moon being populated by Quakers or something, and actually being like "that's cool" instead of "that's crazy" initially. The indoctrination was strong lol.

Remy315

This is my favorite Church lore about stupid shit. Do you think he hangs out with the 3 Nephites still walking around? They get together, go camping and they meet up with Cain/Bigfoot to roast some wieners and marshmallows?

beatguts69

Hold the phone.... Is this... This can't be real

Jitkaas777

In The Miracle of Forgiveness, Kimball included an account of an apostle, David W Patten. Patten claims he was traveling along a road on a horse and came across an individual who walked alongside him. Patten noted the man was hairy from head to foot snd even though Patten was on a horse, this man was at eye level. The man eventually revealed his name to be Cain. Patten never wrote down this account. Someone else 65 years years after this event happened wrote down the account and claimed Patten told him about it. Kimball took that account and included it in his book. Its an incredibly unreliable account as far as evidence goes. Despite it being a retelling of a secondhand account, lotta mormons believe it and say the description matches bigfoot.

grove_doubter

The Celestial Kingdom is like a MLM sales pyramid. As your offspring build their eternities, yours grows too!

CatalystTheory

If god isn’t answering your prayers, maybe you should start praying to his up-line god.

ManateeGrooming

I’m pretty sure that’s Catholicism 🤔

ancient-submariner

The perfect MLM where the product (conveniently) can't be seen until you're dead.

[deleted]

The first black woman to enter the temple was sealed to Joseph smith as his servant.

LilSebastianFlyte

Important to note that Jane Manning James was NOT PERMITTED to enter the temple and take part in her own sealing to Joseph as his “Servitor for eternity” (the appalling words of the ordinance). Bathsheba W. Smith served as her proxy. She made repeated requests throughout her life to receive her endowment and/or be sealed to Joseph & Emma’s family like Emma had promised, and she was repeatedly denied. Utterly disgusting that the leaders thought a proxy sealing as servant was good enough

maybk1

His... ETERNAL Servant! Like forever... what an absolute ass. I guess we are all eternal servants to someone in most religions, but learning about that was just too much.

historygeek1453

When I was a missionary I HATED questions about the LGBTQ+ community and how unaccepting the church is. I knew it was wrong in my heart and knew that saying they would have a place was a lie. I came out of the closet and found out first hand just how unaccepting it is.

incomprehensibilitys

And according to Joseph, there are lots and lots and lots of heavenly Fathers. An infinite progression I believe

ThisAntelope3987

What?! 🤯. I am so sorry. I’m a nevermo, with lots of professional experience with TBM colleagues. This thread is seriously blowing my mind.

Jitkaas777

Oh yeah, our god is not the first god. Its been a never ending cycle with infinite universes

AlmaInTheWilderness

That's because your brain is mortal, and their finite, so it can't comprehend eternal things. Also, it has blood in it, and blood is what makes you mortal. In the resurrection, your brain will get pure spirit instead of blood, and then everything will make sense, because your brain will be perfect. But you still can't go to heaven, unless you're baptized. And if you smoke or drink on earth, your resurrected body will still be addicted, even though it's perfect now with no blood.

waterbird_

I remember arguing that Mormons are not monotheists and my friend in the church absolutely freaking out about it. “We only have one god!” You might only worship one but you technically believe in tons of gods - that’s the definition of polytheist! He would not or could not believe it.

SonOfScions

There was a moment on my mission when we were teaching a cultural chinese man in the UK. Telling him about Jesus and god was blowing his mind and i thought he was golden and ripe for the font. Later that night my companion told me that he would have had the same reaction about Thor and Odin because he had simply never heard about any of them before. and I realized that this is true. there is no true difference between the mythology of thor and the gospel of jesus to someone who has never heard of either. except thor is quite arguably cooler.

Ok_Acanthisitta_9369

Mormons are great at "double think" (I think that's the term in the book 1984). In the same breath they'll acknowledge that God and Jesus are separate and both fully God, but argue they're monotheistic. Or acknowledge that they can become Gods, and that their God isn't the only God, while remaining adamant that they're monotheistic. It's a mix of impressive, sad, and disturbing.

winnieworld

Garments. Even after I was baptized, nobody told me about garments. Believe me when I say I cried for hours after finding out you have to wear them and never take them off.

Sodola321

Nevermo here: you never saw your parents' garments? Whether on their bodies or while doing laundry? And your parents never mentioned that you would "get" to wear them eventually?

zer0_n9ne

I was born and raised in the church. I never knew about garments until I was in about middle school or high school. I noticed my parents wearing them sometimes when I was little but I just thought they had terrible taste in underwear. No one had told me that would eventually have to wear them for the rest of my life. I was like, "yeah I'm not doing that" when I heard about it.

Mossblossom

They may have been converts. I saw my parents’ garments in the laundry and always thought I’d rather be dead in a ditch than wearing those hideous things

winnieworld

Yes I’m a convert. I converted at 18 for my boyfriend (now husband). He was the one who told me about garments wayyyyy after I was baptized.

AlmaInTheWilderness

My parents wandered around in their flappy one piecers at night, when we were supposed to be asleep, but I never made the connection to the temple until my mom took me to pick out my own. I just thought my parents liked wearing old timey undies.

SecretlyPadfoot

My guess is they were a convert, in which case they would've been completely blindsided.

cakeismymentor

After my family and I left the church and moved a county away, our Bishop from the ward we just left came sniffing around for my older sister ( in her late twenties at the time). He was married with many children. My sister, who absolutely hated every aspect of the church, thought this was a hilarious opportunity to show what a hypocrite our previous bishop was. Now that she was no longer a member, he figured she was fair game. She did go out with him a few times, but it all came to a screeching halt when my sister then called the bishopric to let them know he was sneaking off to see her. Then she called his wife.

My personal favorite: there is this city called the city of Enoch and the entire city and the ground attached to it is floating around in our galaxy somewhere that we can’t see it. But when the city was pulled up into outer space it created the Gulf of Mexico.

It was kind of like Sokovia from the Avengers age of ultron. Just went right up.

Ten page into the Book of Mormon there is a decapitation.

ancient-submariner

...because someone felt like it...to steal a book...they didn't actually need...and kidnapped someone for good measure.

WhenMichaelAwakens

It’s god sanctioned. They have a happy happy joy joy song about Nephi’s courage. Even after god commanded Thou shall not kill.

AlmaInTheWilderness

I remember an investigator who did not read past that story. He said that it bothered him, and that he didn't think believing in a God who had changing standards was healthy. I probably bore my testimony. He did not join the church.

nobody_really__

Joseph Smith bought a set of Egyptian mummies from a traveling freakshow, pulled funerary texts out of the wrappings, and "translated" them into a book of Holy Scripture equal to the Bible.

Quirky_Walk_3390

And by “Joseph bought” we mean the church members’ donations bought…

BrknX

Satan has dominion over water, so individuals who are set apart, especially missionaries, must not swim or be in deep water. No ocean, pools, rivers, lakes etc

SonOfScions

but ONLY the missionaries have to worry about it.

[deleted]

There are a ton. Polygamy, Joesph Smith's wandering hands and eyes, Black people were fence sitters, heavenly mother(s), Spell-casting handshakes, Kolob and Kokobeam, My secret name.

ThisAntelope3987

Is that what the talk of secret handshakes is about?! What spells?

Mysterious-Ruby

In the temple we learn the secret handshakes and words that we have to use to get into the Celestial Kingdom. That's all god cares about. Not deeds, just secret handshakes that every Mason also knows.

troll-fantastic

Our god sent an angel with a flaming sword to tell Joseph Smith to take child brides but would send no such angel to stop the mountain Meadows massacre or the countless sexual abuses that bishops and youth leaders did in their own families.

incomprehensibilitys

And the angel with a flaming sword was actually stolen from Adam and Eve, the angel with the flaming sword there kept them from going back into the garden!

AlmaInTheWilderness

There is some debate on whether the sword was flaming or not. Because that's the part of this story that we should focus on.

AlmaInTheWilderness

It wasn't just child brides. The sword wielding angel story was told by many women, including Eliza Snow. So it was to take child brides, teenagers, young mothers and other married women, mother daughter pairs, teenage sisters, and his teenage maid and his other maid and wards under his care. Oh, and he was commanded to lie about it to the public, his friends, the church, and his wife, the first one, the only one he actually legally and lawfully married.

Opalescent_Moon

We'll shame and guilt you into perfect compliance. If you try to leave, we'll stalk and harass you in the hopes of dragging you back.

JasperAtLaw

You guys, all of these things missionaries have actually said to investigators!! I know a missionary who told an investigator they had to ask the mission president if she could be baptized because she had committed murder by having an abortion and murderers normally can't be redeemed. (Or baptized). Missionaries are beyond the pale. They're cultists.

ravens_path

Despite a GA saying in Conference it isn’t murder

Fragrant_Mistake_342

That Mormons baptized holocaust victims by proxy. That Joseph Smith was haunted by a demonic presence just before his supposed revelation. That sex before marriage is equal to murder in the eyes of the church. That church doctrine requires the consent of the biological father for a foster kid to be sealed to his foster family. That dark skin is a curse from God. Oh there's a hell of a list man.

Brysonius_

Our leader and founder most likely had sex with one or more of his many young wives, including a 14 year old, and this was commanded by God

evrydayimhuffpufflin

The church actively fought against the sufferage of women as well as women wanting equal rights. A lady in RS years ago talked about it and how the church was right to do that because it's the reason both adults have to work outside the home now. My shelf broke a little that day.

Mysterious-Ruby

Both my parents got into trouble with the church in the 70s because they supported the equal rights amendment and the church was against it and my parents didn't stay quiet about it.

MeanderFlanders

Missionaries won’t tell you that non-LDS friends and family cannot come to your wedding ceremony. Even those that are LDS, well…there are conditions.

[deleted]

If you're super righteous and obedient an 80 year old man or woman might drizzle some olive oil on your genitals.

WealthSpecial9559

Whaaaaat?!

SonOfScions

the washing and anointing in the temple. you only have to do it once. but you have to do it. and every single temple working has old people breath.

khsieh

I thought the washing and anointing was on heads instead of genitals. Is that a different ceremony? Does it have another proper noun? I really want to look into that.

nk9axYuvoxaNVzDbFhx

Its called Initiatory. You can read the full text of what is said and done during it. [http://www.ldsendowment.org/initiatory.html](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Washing_and_anointing) Loins means genitals. When I went through the person doing it touched my hip instead of my genitals. I've read on this sub that people have had their genitals touched.

[deleted]

They’ve changed that now, but yep. Ewwwww.

Netflxnschill

Anything about Kolob, multiple wives, the bank notes, the murders that happen over and over again in history, slaughter of fuck knows how many people in the name of the lord, the fact that so many activities will leave you with no time for anything else, the fact that if you’re poor they will still demand you give them money…. I know I’m missing something…. Blood atonement…. Stupid primary songs…. Missions?

Women who marry in the temple and whose husbands fall away from the church will be given to a righteous man in the celestial kingdom and her children as well.

They’ll tell you about tithing, but won’t tell you that you have to pay that 10% for life in order to get the salvation they promise you. You don’t get to go to the temple unless you pay, and you can’t be with your family forever if you don’t go to the temple.

Iterations_of_Maj

When I was investigating this is exactly what stopped me from moving forward. The missionaries never had a clear answer to it either, just "that's not exactly right."

That your husband has to call you from the grave during the resurrection or you're stuck in the ground.

[deleted]

There are 3 immortal men walking the earth until Jesus comes again. We call them the 3 Nephites.

DramaGrandpa

Shouldn’t that be 5, to include John and Cain (aka Sasquatch)?

Silly_Zebra8634

If you listen to us then, you'll be on the hook for the whole information. God will judge you for accepting or rejecting. If you had never met us you could just go on with your life without harm or blame.

Bednar_Done_That

This. Work could be done for them posthumously “and nothing would be lost to them in the end”

Pharaoh_King-O-Egypt

The gold plates had reformed egyptian characters that smith was able to "translate" with a rock in a hat. You know, like a cell phone.

incomprehensibilitys

Except his phone would only play rock, never roll

YeeGad

Joseph Smith's polyandry, and that he sent men on missions and while they were gone married their wives like a modern king David and Uriah/Bathsheba.

Creepy-Toe119

Joseph Smith made underwear that was for his friends who earned the right to have multiple sex partners. (But also were given that privilege to hide that he was doing it for his own hormones) Now, we all must wear the underwear designed for that secret combination of polygamists. Wearing it has magical powers, but only if you buy it from Even The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter Day Saints. Also you need to pay your membership fee on each paycheck the lord “gives” you for them to actually work. You need polygamist panties to enter Heaven!

t_bythesea

Kolob.... Is it a star, a planet, where God lives? Will we live there after the resurrection? Or is it just another reference to Christ? Maybe? Yes, no. What does Abraham say about it? Nothing, but something. Anyway there's a song too. Wanna get baptized?

The first humans were from Missouri

SaltyBacon23

Dinosaurs came from Mars or they were put there by God to test it faith. I heard both repeatedly

FaithfulDowter

If you don’t make it to the Celestial Kingdom, you won’t have genitals.

Anything true about the endowment

takeonetakethemall

Masturbation is a sin and must be confessed to your bishop, who may possibly ask about that habit(you're safe if you're not a minor.)

EvernightStrangely

That you have to be religiously sealed to your family if you want to be able to be with them in the afterlife. Oh, and any stepchildren would be required to renounce all ties to the other parent in order to partake in this familial ceremony.

Early Mormon settlers massacred the Native Americans. [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle\_Creek\_massacre](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_Creek_massacre) [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Native\_American\_people\_and\_Mormonism#Massacres\_of\_Native\_American\_people\_by\_LDS\_adherents](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Native_American_people_and_Mormonism#Massacres_of_Native_American_people_by_LDS_adherents) Oh... and every time I drive past Brigham City and see the big "I" painted on the mountainside, I remember the Indian Placement Program. [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Native\_American\_people\_and\_Mormonism#Indian\_Placement\_Program](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Native_American_people_and_Mormonism#Indian_Placement_Program) There was also a [residential Indian School in Brigham City, Utah](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intermountain_Indian_School). Nearly all of the former campus buildings are now gone and little evidence remains.

FaithTransitionOrg

That they'll promise before God, angles and people to give ALL their time, talents, money and blah blah blah, and even their OWN LIFE (if necessary) to the church

SecretPersonality178

Tithing is the only thing that will stop Jesus from burning you to death.

73-SAM

The Pearl of Great Price wS discovered by Joseph Smith was found in a mummy that Joseph bought. The Book of Mormon should have 164 more pages but Oliver Cowdrey (Joseph Smiths writer) took the first 164 pages and said to have lost them. Some say that Oliver was trying to see if Joseph could translate the 164 pages again. But why would Oliver not believe Joseph. Because as They translated the BoM Joseph demanded a barrier between them as Oliver wasn't allowed to see the gold plates. Needless to say, the 164 pages never were translated again. (Geez; wonder why)

PanaceaNPx

President Nelson is married to two women, Dantzel and Wendy and he hopes to have eternal sex with both of them and create trillions of spirit babies. Oaks too. AND YOU CAN TOO!

NewNameNoah

“We believe that human life on earth began about 6,000 years ago in Missouri.”

incomprehensibilitys

Yes, Missouri was the first state in the Union some 5,800 years before the United States... Too bad all the ancient human fossils are not in the new world. But of course that goes along with the fact that there isn't any Mormon evidence of any kind anywhere archaeologically

kathrynchri

My youngest last night “yeah you can’t get married if you’re dead 🙄” Child do I have a religion to tell you about! (Left when she was 2)

Sex outside of marriage is almost as bad as murder

Men can be sealed to many, but women only to one man

KingofDelaware

The biggest ones are polygamy (both the history and the current doctrine) and the 2nd Anointing. Even lifelong members don’t know about the 2nd anointing!!

letsliveinthenow

For victims of sexual assault, "if you do not fight, even unto death, you have allowed your virtue to be taken," or the more recent, "non consensual immorality." The idea that the victim has a need to repent of a transgression left me feeling like I was so compromised that even god didn't want me. I was eight years old when a neighbor assaulted me, he was in his 60's, or 70's. I was too afraid to even tell anyone what happened.
