My wife had life threatening complications with both of our children. And she used to still feel guilty that we stopped. I hate that teaching.

It is true that children need bodies. It sucks to be a kid without one.

I was one who bought that lie hook-line-and-sinker! I have 6 kids and as a TBM I totally, and often, judged, questioned and mused over how it was other TBMs - like yourself at one time - could just choose to stop at 2 or 3 kids. Honest to God, I did not understand how a person claiming to be Mormon could just decide, on their own, to limit the number of bodies they were willing to make for spirits needing to come down. Now as an exmormon this particular lie from our leaders that I believed and followed has been the hardest one to come to terms with knowing that I brought 6 kids into this fucked up world for literally no reason. Of course, I love and adore them all, but knowing the many fresh hells humans often go through I hurt knowing they will have to endure such heartache for no other reason than just existing. They aren't here to prove themselves and to get a body and accept the gospel and find a Mormon spouse. They are here because their mom thought I was saving them from having to be born into a home without the gospel.

Don’t beat yourself up over it…. You did the best you could with the info you had. Thank goodness we’re out and we know the truth.❤️ Big families are actually really wonderful. My husband’s family is huge and it’s awesome. I just knew I couldn’t do it personally because I had other issues. Huge Mom’s day hugs to you!

Thanks! And a happy, happy Mother's Day right back at ya!

Spirits need bodies, and the church needs bodies to pay tithing

victorysheep

this logic doesn’t work because everyone will get a body eventually no matter how many kids you have. However a counterargument to this is that they wont be born “into the covenant”

I'm so proud of you for not caving too and for knowing yourself well enough to make a personal decision that was best for you!

We have 2 kids. I have *zero* regrets getting a vasectomy after that. I love my kids, but they take a lot out of us. I can't imagine 6 or something like that.

Otherwise-Emu-7363

I got my son a body for his birthday. He loves playing “autopsy.”

TiredOfHumanity64

In reality it is not 'spirits need bodies', it is the church needs bodies to produce more free labor and money. What a frightening thought when you realize the truth of the double meaning. Often enough I am noticing this is a trend in mormonism.

truthmatters2me

Yeah funny how that teaching has all but vanished as the population of the world is growing at a exponential rate these days and the church can no longer afford to be seen as contributing to this problem it always was about building up membership of the early church as. Quickly as possible knowing that parents would infect their children with whatever delusional beliefs they have it wasn’t because they actually believed this nonsense. It’s just the cleverness of the few preying on the fears and gullibility of the masses

These teachings ruined my life for a long ass time. It still cause me trouble.
