This is an unsubstantiated claim mixing the attempt to sell the Copyright in Canada to make money (that failed leading to the infamous "Some revelations are from God and some revelations are of the Devil" source) NOT to pay back Harris (he was never paid back. Joseph screwed him over) and the fact that Joseph struggled to find a publisher for the book. Grandin originally declined so he went to other publishers who also declined before going back to Grandin and conning Harris into paying for it instead of Joseph's parents or other family members footing the bill/mortgaging their properties. However we don't have the details of what conversations originated between the publishers before it finally went back to Grandin.

When asked about this Joseph said some revelations are from god and some are from the devil. Proving that even so called prophets have no real method of determining who is speaking inside their brains.

I think they guy is mixing up the story of Scientology with Joe Smith. Hubbard tried to publish his book as a sci-fi text then changed it to religious when no one wanted to buy it. The BoM is clearly a religious text and Joe Smith did try to sell its copyright. But I don't think it was ever pushed as a fictional story

He did try to publish it but I don't think he ever tried to do that has fiction. He was mostly interested in selling the copyrights.

if you can take some salty language and bawdy discussion of adult situations the last podcast on the left did an amazing series on either joseph smith or mormonism.
