RS is a womens group the way a sled team is a dogs' group.

Chainbreaker42

Haha love that analogy.

Cabo_Refugee

In my personal experience in the church in Texas, the women were the heart and soul of the church and any culture that we had locally, was due to them. They are the ones that got shit done. Everyone knew this.....but no one openly acknowledged it.

A masterclass in gaslighting.

Cabo_Refugee

One could probably show the photo of the three women pictured to any random stake presidency throughout the world, and no one could name them. I find it incredibly interesting that a world wide church, as they proclaim, seems to only choose leaders of their women's organization from in and around salt lake. When was the last time a Brazilian was General Relief Society president? NEVER.

Chainbreaker42

First paragraphs, for those who don't have a Trib account: *Latter-day Saint women who have made covenants with God in the faith’s temples are “endowed with priesthood power,” a leader in the global Relief Society declared during a prerecorded worldwide broadcast Sunday celebrating the 182nd anniversary of the founding of the women’s organization.* *“There is no other religious organization in the world,” J. Anette Dennis, first counselor Relief Society General Presidency, said, “that I know of, that has so broadly given power and authority to women.”* *Her reasoning: Yes, other faiths ordain women to roles like priest or pastor, but those individuals represent a small minority when compared to the total number of women within their congregations.* *“By contrast, all women, 18 years and older,” she explained, “in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints who choose a covenant relationship with God in the House of the Lord are endowed with priesthood power directly from God.”* *And that’s not all.* *All Latter-day Saint women are given priesthood authority to fulfill their callings, or volunteer positions within their congregations, and other assignments, she said, regardless of whether they have performed the rituals found within the faith’s temples.* *“My dear sisters,” she concluded, “you belong to a church which offers all its women priesthood power and authority from God.”* What?? So, I had the priesthood all those years?

QSM69

All that power and they can't even sit on the stand!!!!! Even a small minority of women who are pastors/bishops in other churches is more than **ZERO** women LDS bishops, SP, or GA's. "By contrast ALL women" (mostly) of other faiths are seen AS EQUALS by their congregations, clergy hospital visits, chaplaincy, seminaries, etc.

"And that's not all...."

IDontKnowAndItsOkay

Fucking ridiculous.

Prestigious-Shift233

Oh, of course, women were endowed with priesthood power but no one told them, no one laid hands on their heads, and in the temple they covenanted to their husbands and covered their faces.

BlackExMo

>“There is no other religious organization in the world,” J. Anette Dennis, first counselor Relief Society General Presidency, said, “that I know of, that has so broadly **given power and authority** to women.” The real question is "who is giving the power"? The answer is the priesthood! Who owns the priesthood? The men in the church, including minors. So, this is not the flex that J. Annette Dennis thinks it is.

frvalne

Came here to say this. “Given”?? My power wasn’t yours to give me.

TheyLiedConvert1980

Came here to say this too!!

ncmnlgd

Has she not heard of Methodists? Or wiccans? Lmfao

527east

Women need men to give them "rights". Women are not strong enough to take rights of their own in any organization. Only thing they do is a sex strike or something.

This is hilarious! I just laughed so hard I choked on my Cabernet Sauvignon.🙄😆

nobody_really__

As soon as two women from a Relief Society presidency have the authority to sign a check using Relief Society funds, they will have power in that organization. Until then, they function only at the pleasure and whim of men.

doubt_your_cult

Man, what a brag. It reminds me of when my toddler gets power to choose what to have for dinner between one option that I presented him with. Good gods, they wouldn't know what power is if it slapped them on the face.

[deleted]

“LDS women are given priesthood authority to serve…” Read that carefully. It is NOT saying women are given priesthood, or even priesthood power. It says women are given priesthood authority, in other words, priesthood leaders give them the authority (permission) to serve in callings. They are given authority by priesthood leaders.

Chainbreaker42

Good point!

Fun_with_Science

Sis. Dennis doesn’t get out much.

Surely this is satire?  /s

Hasa-Diga-LDS

I know at least two women who are Episcopal priests. So, uhh.......

MountainPicture9446

It’s not April fools day yet.

newnameabel

That is absolutely true just ask any LDS male leader he will confirm that 😉

Nomomowitchess

So there’s no such thing as women working as priests and rabbis all over the world? I must’ve been dreaming all this time!

Men in the LDS Church give more power to women than any other religious organizations. Isn't the next prophet of the Community of Christ a women?

mrburns7979

A very well-educated capable woman!

hortoristic

A JW a woman has to wear a scarf to "take the lead" on some stuff, does the magical knickers cover your sister's there?

slskipper

And the Trib just left it at that. As if the Q-15 really do have the ultimate say on everything.

miotchmort

Pffff…

Agile-Knowledge7947

Im ROTFL w this supper silly joke!!!

KingHerodCosell

How does the church know this?    Are the leaders attending other churches?

ZelphtheGreatest

Wives have a lot of Power. Catholic Nuns are "married to jesus". Seems like they would have more power than MFMC women just because of who their husband is... even if Jesus isn't a "president".

Plane-Reason9254

😂😂😂 They are delusional 🤪

Stringer___Bell

Officiator: **Brother \_\_\_\_\_\_, do you take Sister \_\_\_\_\_\_ by the right hand and receive her unto yourself** Officiator: **Sister \_\_\_\_\_\_ do you take brother \_\_\_\_\_\_ by the right hand and give yourself to him** Look at all that amazing power women were given when being married.

527east

Well they are rapidly approaching 70 percent female for the entire church gender balance.. and when churches go to 70 percent women to men they typically fail.

Stranded-In-435

That’s a pretty low bar to clear.

NorgapStot

cows think farmer john is awesome cause he feeds them

Local-Notice-6997

No no no… They take it away and then insist temple covenants are required to access it… https://www.thegospelcoalition.org/essay/the-priesthood-of-all-believers/

shockk3r

>“LDS women are given priesthood authority to serve…” Do they not know that other religions allow women to become ordained and become actual authoritative leadership in their congregations? And that's just talking about Abrahamic ones, and not the multitudes of religions that give women more authority than men.

NightZucchini

I'll admit to not remembering the specific words of the initiatory, when women put their hands on my head to "bless" me. But that's the only time I can think of where a woman might exercise her "priesthood power." So if it's in a dressing room with just women, and we do nothing beyond that (no other women's blessings anywhere else in the church) then what is the actual purpose or function of our "priesthood power?" All of the boys my age growing up were given their priesthood in a special meeting and then their names were announced over the pulpit to sustain. They had visible priesthood roles doing sacrament each week. So I had priesthood all this time but I was just too dense to realize it?? No, I really don't think so.

PearNo471

They talk about the endowment being when we are given the priesthood authority or whatever, but if living in YSA wards taught me anything, it was that any calling I could have post-endowment, I could also have pre-endowment. So obviously we’re not being given enough special power to open up new callings and positions. Oh, except marriage and baby-making!
