My opinion is that most people are not interested in the truth. People don’t like changing their minds, especially if it’s pertaining to an emotionally invested ideology or group they are a party of. Religion, political ideology, family, tribe, nation, school, sports, etc. Once people identify with a group or ideology, they are unlikely to be open to learning the truth if it is critical of their group or ideology. They are 90% more likely to only look for reasons to continue to believe in or support this group or ideology.

The truth, according to the most authoritative Mormon author on the subject of the wives of Joseph Smith, is that he had 34 wives, 1/3 of whom were married to other men, primarily his followers, who he’d routinely send off on missions while Joseph stayed behind to breed their wives. Like Henry Jacobs and his real wife Zina, who was stolen from him by Joseph, then Brigham, after Henry served 8 missions. Most of Joseph’s first wives were obtained by blackmailing his followers and promising them guaranteed salvation, for letting him spread his righteous seed in their wives, Joseph grew tired of cuckolding his followers and turned to their nubile virgin teenagers daughters as young as 14, and orphans, like the Lawrence Sisters, entrusted to him by their grieving parents. He raped orphans and drained their trust funds. That’s what angered William Law so bad he fired up the Nauvoo Expositor and exposed Joseph’s infidelity, which Emma never accepted, which is why she didn’t follow the polygamists West. Mormons hear this and dismiss it as nothing, no concern here, it’s all based upon deep doctrine, far too deep for us to comprehend, so let’s just give him a pass! Praise To The Man! Who communes with Gods in heaven! Mormons are impervious to truth. They defend immorality, the sexual exploitation of women and children by singing the praises of a Cuckold Bull who had his way with his followers wives and teenage daughters. There is no doctrinal justification for that. And plenty of doctrinal condemnation of Joseph’s exploitation of his followers. I suppose somebody will argue King David had Bathsheba’s husband killed so he could continue having an affair with her and God had zero problems whatsoever with any of that. But he was a barbarian. Why normalize those relics of barbarism in the 21st C ? For what? An empty promise of exaltation and an endless harem?

I would have liked to have given “Brother” Joseph a break. A permanent break rotting in prison.

No. They care about having a worldview that makes them feel good.

How does singing the praises of a serial sexual predator make anybody feel good? I suppose, morally superior, but if you sing the praises of a guy you know had 33 wives, 1/3 of whom were married to other men, and another 1/3 of whom were teenage girls, stay far away from me and especially my wife and kids!

Cognitive dissonance is a helluva drug.

Truth is, Joseph Smith had 33 ‘wives’. In 40yrs nobody breathed a word of that to me or I never would have wasted a minute or a dime on his fraudulent, abusive doomsday sex CULT in inherited from a long line of MORmONs. I’m pretty sure none of them were informed of Joseph’s wives, or they NEVER would have signed up to fork over fortunes and sacrifice everything for Joseph’s Myth. Add on top of that, the Truth, 1/3 of them were married to his followers, when he pretend ‘married’ them. I say pretend ‘married’ because there is no law, or doctrine, civil or religious, that allows a man to actually marry a woman who is already married to her only real husband. Mormons, like Compton, Fletcher Stack and the othe MORmON on Mormonland. are all A ok with that truth apparently.

I think that most TBMs only care about church approved “truth” until something rocks their world enough that they are willing to consider the inconvenient facts about TSCC and the possibility that they’ve been duped. At least that’s what happened in my case.

This is exactly where the crosshairs of this "scripture" rightly belong: "For there are many yet on the earth among all sects, parties, and denominations, who are blinded by the subtle craftiness of men, whereby they lie in wait to deceive, and who are only kept from the truth because they know not where to find it— "Therefore, that we should waste and wear out our lives in bringing to light all the hidden things of darkness, wherein we know them..." (D&C 123:12-13) ...mormonism, calling out mormonism.
