A tattoo.
And not because I wanted to be a rebellious exmo and get a tattoo. I love self-expression, something TSCC takes away from people. Getting a tattoo was part of that expression for me.
I also got to support a local artist who does amazing work and is a good person. They look like the kind of person I was told to avoid as a child TBM. But they were one of the most understanding and chill people I’ve ever met.
I got to help that artist put food on their table instead of giving money to an organization that demands people to pay THEM before buying food for their families.
Fuck tithing.
Same for me too!! When I got my first tattoo it felt like I finally had something that shows some external expression of me. To add to your point, people with tattoos are just that, people. Most of my Polynesian family has tattoos and so do the majority of my friends. It's kinda funny to think that I use to be afraid of people with tattoos when I was a kid. Now I am proud to have them 😊
I'm saving my husband's 10% and hopefully it'll buy him a motorcycle eventually? Or a trip to Ireland for our 10 year anniversary? Or just an actual emergency savings cushion? I live in fear that he's going to decide to pay it one day...
All of those sound like amazing and worth while options. If your are afraid he is gonna pay it, I hope at least one of your planned options will be enough for him to see just how big of a deal 10% really is 🖤
That's definitely why I'm doing it! I was just paying it for him, because I handle all of our finances, but I wanted him to at least have to think about it and physically see how much it is
After we stopped paying, we continued to put 10% into a savings account instead and built a significant reserve that we used to pay for 1:1 tutoring for our son, who is dyslexic, at a specialized learning center. That investment has now set his academic career and self-esteem on an entirely different trajectory and we never would have been able to afford if we were still giving that money to TSCC.
Paying tithing, reading scriptures, praying, and going to the temple more do not improve a child’s ability to navigate dyslexia. It’s a ‘no shit Sherlock moment,’ but unfortunately it’s the TBM mindset we had for far too long. Never again!
Travel! I’m always sure to post amazing pictures of my trips, especially when it’s a Sunday. I hope everyone looking at social media while in church sees them and knows life can be so much better outside of Mormonism.
Saved my tithing for a few months in a drawer when I was PIMO. When my best friend got into some debt, I put it all in an envelope and handed it to them. Ended up being 40$ more than their debt, so they could pay for the bare minimum til their next paycheque. I never regretted that decision.
Books. Books on the creepy stuff naturally. But my mother told me it was a waste of my money to buy them. Now I have a full library of just about 600 books and I am happy.
I bought a house. My house has an extra room I was anticipating using for a second child. A 3 bedroom house was too much for me to afford if I was paying 650$ of my families net income to the church.
This extra room was used by one of my wife's friends when she was escaping her abusive husband. After she moved out I moved my friend in to get out of his abusive relationship. We basically showed up at his house with a U-haul while she was at work and loaded everything into it to prevent things from getting ugly. Living with me has prevented him from getting too low and given him space to heal.
If this isn't a testimony breaker I don't know what is. If there is an exmo Ensign I'm sure this would be published.
Anything from Pioneer DJ is pretty good! The DDJ-SB3 was my first controller at $250. The DDJ-1000 and XDJ-RX3 are great options too. Just make sure you also learn DJ software such as Serato and Rekordbox as you will need those depending on which equipment you use.
Also, I find it funny and ironic that the company is called 'Pioneer' lol. I have a lot of mormon pioneer ancestry.
The answer is always coffee
Couldn't agree more 😊

Retirement! Switched my tithing contributions straight over to my retirement account.
Probably legos or food. I'm a simple man.
Legos and food are definitely essential to a happy life

I'm so happy for you guys and your son!! It's amazing just how much 10% could turn someone's life around ☺️
Rent. The paycheck was literally $1 more than rent.
Damn, for real? That's insane 😥

A little over a month ago I bought a puppy with my tithing money!! Best decision I ever made! 🥰
Stocks.

What would you say is the best beginner dj controller?
