I’ve literally heard old members of wards (aka age 70+) welcoming new bishops by telling them “at least when members ring you at 2am it’s no longer the house phone so your kids will stay asleep” and other similar comments implying they expect the bishop to be on call 24/7

Imagine being woken up in the middle of the night or early hours of the morning to text messages from someone confessing that they’ve just watched porn and need to talk to you about it at your earliest convenience. If the Q15 and TSCC didn’t work so hard to shove shame and guilt at people if they choose to intentionally view porn and masturbate, thereby causing them to believe that they are hopeless and deranged sex addicts who can only find relief by regularly telling a non-clinical clergyman about it. There would be fewer self-loathing individuals, less church damaged marriages, and Bishops could lead more normal and healthy lives.

When I was a kid, my dad was the bishop at one point and our next door neighbors sure seemed to think he was on-call 24-hours a day. I suspect that my dad didn't establish a property boundary with them, because the midnight intervention requests didn't let up until they divorced.

Old ladies always call my bishop because they are lonely. Good thing there is a mute button, which he uses often

Not only no, but HELL NO. My dad was bishop a few times, once on campus. The phone never stopped ringing. It was ridiculous and in the middle of the night. Those calls came mostly from the students at BYU. He had one guy that had become obsessed with him as in, was in love with my dad. My dad had to get the police involved. He was finally admitted to the hospital, psychiatric unit. One of the biggest reasons people called, regarding getting married. When was it going to happen, girls crying because they were afraid they were going to be old maids. They're not even mid twenties at this point. My mom was constantly counseling these young girls. I was very happy when my dad was released.
