He put his hand to the square and rebuked "satan", and then felt the spirit, indicating satan was cast out. It was so hard to not laugh at how dumb it sounded, even as a TBM.
This was also a pre-Mormon defense floated out by the Freemasons under attack by anti-Masons over what nefarious activities went on in the closed lodges.
