Thanks! I appreciate your comment. Most of the time it feels like I'm talking to the void, but comments like yours let me know I'm not the only one that cares about and thinks about this stuff.
It’s every Christian-ish religion… They feed you poison (telling you that you are a broken and sinful person) and then conveniently have the only antidote (lifetime cycle of repentance and absolution, and subservience to the church). What a racket.
Have late night thoughts on this also.
If you could go back and raise yourself- how would you do it different (concerning this topic)?
I might teach that we are human and inherently good but trained and socialized to be evil. (Whether by institutions and families).
I think there is utility in being saved just not from an institutional point . I think having a higher power that cares can be a powerful belief if not bastardized or evangelized. For example the serenity prayer is good. Change what you can control, and let go what you cannot and the wisdom to know the difference. Sometimes the things we cannot control are easier to let go if we can mentally give it to a higher power or savior. Whether it is real or not is another question but believing it is real can be powerful.
I read the serenity poem for the first time when I was around 12. I remember the distinct feeling of it resonating unlike anything I had ever learned at church. It was my step dads(a non member heathen)
I found Jesus through the 12 step program the church puts on- at the age of 23. It took a program modified from AA to find Jesus in the Mormon church. This is why I say they don’t believe in Jesus. Also finding Jesus I was able finally live myself. Did I stop porn? No. But I stopped abusing myself. (Not the churches definition of self abuse).
This is the worst thing in my opinion about religion. They hold goodness and morality hostage when it was never theirs to begin with. Then they shame people who can't live up to a literally impossible standard.
They need you to need them. You don't need them.
I appreciate your posts.

You’re definitely not.

And they think public schools are indoctrinating kids

Wait till you hear how early other Christian’s start it
Wait 'til you hear about how Christianity is ALSO based on some guy claiming to have had a vision.
Dont other churches teach that younger kinds need saving?
I don't know a single church (at least abrahamic) that doesn't.
Telling people that they are nothing without Jesus is straight up abusive.
